Over the past few months, I’ve really enjoyed shooting with the Sony A7CR. It’s a compact, lightweight, and high-performance camera, perfect for urban photographers like me. The advanced autofocus is extremely quick and accurate, so I can stay in the moment and focus on what I want to capture. And because of the high megapixel sensor, I have plenty of room to crop without sacrificing detail.Read J
My take is simple, the a7CR is less expensive yet way more versitile and powerful of a tool if I was choosing between the two. Of course, you are free to make your own mind up on which camera is right for you. But for me, I want the ability to grow with a camera and not be locked into a box that will never change.Watch B
The A7CR is the best choice for me. This thing will shoot crop sensor at the same resolution as the a6700, meaning I will get great quality images with crop sensor lenses. Though I feel most people will for the Cii for the price and don't care about the pixel count. Thirty-three megapixels will produce excellent images. I like to photo finely detailed little things I see in nature.Watch J
I share the image quality, closeups of the camera build and not to mention some limitations when it comes to using the A7CR. I also test this camera body out for video with the Sony GM 24mm f1.4 for portrait video shots and then new 16-35mm f2.8 GMII for a vlogging test which also includes a microphone test. Let me know what you think in the comments and thank you for watching!Watch R
The A7CR has replaced my X100VI, Q3, and is even pushing the Ricoh GRIII out. As always it’s worth stating that I have no relationship with Sony and everything I own I paid for with my own money. This blog is here to share my experience, not sell Sony products. Finally, this isn’t an in-depth review as I haven’t used these cameras extensively enough. This is a first impression.Read D
The Sony A7CR is mostly what I've been looking for.Watch J
I’ve purchased the A7CR and a A7CII to use for travel and around town. I like traveling with two bodies and they complement each other. I also own A1’s and a A7RV but really like the nice smaller size. While I also wear glasses I’m able to get the diopter correction to allow me to shoot without my glasses. I use V90 cards and don’t suffer any real performance problems so far.Watch D

As someone who splits between Sony and Lumix the A7C series, specifically the A7CR, would be an instant buy for me for the compact size.if they included dual card slots. I can't use a camera on anything I'm being paid for without redundancy, the same goes for the S9, so it's just a damn shame. I just want an S9 with an EVF, dual card slots and a mechanical shutter.Read P
Sony has just announced the a7C II and a7CR, two very compact full frame cameras designed for travel and casual use. While they share a body design, the sensors inside are very different. Chris Niccolls and Jordan Drake took the camera to Salmon Arm, British Columbia to find out who these new cameras are for.Watch L
Overall well beyond satisfied with the upgrade. Most important thing is I’m hitting the shots I couldn’t hit before with a significantly higher hit rate. Surprisingly 40 2.5 has become my most used especially with that crop mode! Grip was also kinda goofy and I sold it on eBay. Got me enough to buy a smallrig grip with an AirTag holder and a newer card reader lol.Watch D
And yet, you probably shouldn't buy it.Watch A
Besides costing half as much as the Leica, the A7CR has the added advantage of being able to use all of the Sony lenses. And Sony has much better lenses than that 40mm. But, if anyone can afford a Leica and likes using that system, fine, shoot whatever you like. I originally bought the A7CR for travel. But, I find myself using it along side my A7RV when I'm home.Watch B
Can this compact powerhouse deliver professional-level results? We explore its 61MP sensor and overall performance to see if the Sony A7CR truly sets a new standard for high-resolution compact cameras.Watch R
It’s a tough choice A7CR - slightly pithy viewfinder and low-res screen, but lightweight, user LUTs, the cinematic borders option thing, LIGHT and joyous to carry around. But no real mechanical shutter, unsure how it works with 3rd party flashes. 7 stops ibis with OSS lenses. A7RV - heavier bit of gear but mechanical shutter which is based if you use SONY lenses.Watch C
DON'T buy the Sony A7CR yet.Watch G
Excellent write-up and I agree with most all of the points listed. I recently used this camera for a trip to Europe. I obtained excellent results; however, I just couldn’t live with the poor LCD/EVF and lack of joystick, so I sold the camera. Also, bokeh degradation actually starts at 1/2000 with EFCS. I will just use my A7R5 in the future, as I previously did.Read T
So before it had no image stabilization, it had standard and active, but now they have a dynamic active mode on there which is really really good but it has a pretty severe crop. So I wanted to test out if it's better to use the dynamic image stabilization in body or if it's better to turn off image stabilization and then stabilize it in post using something like Gyroflow.Watch A
Honestly it is bad deal compared to a7rv and a7riv. They cut corners everywhere they could while price is not that much lower. Almost same goes to a7cii but at least they compensate you with some nice new additions in that one. A7CR just too expensive for what you get. If you need really good compact and cheap camera with many mp buy a7rII for 1/4th the price.Watch J
And I quickly fell in love with the camera.Watch K
I sold both and picked up the A7RV and A7CR instead. I love this set-up. I have the menus, custom and function buttons near identical. For professional work, I use the A7RV with my GM zooms or fast primes. For travel or discrete cityscape and street shooting, I take the A7CR with a couple of my compact Sigma I-series primes. No regrets letting go the Leica.Watch K
So what if we could take the far more versatile Sony A7CR and Turn It Into the Leica Q3. both from a looks standpoint, but also the image rendering as well.Watch F Facebook Mark Bielick · owner
I am as disappointed as possible over my A7CR. 38 days after buying it, it decided to die. Will not startup at all. I've tried 3 different charged batteries, and it is dead. Has anyone experienced this? If not, what is the Sony warranty service like? I guess I have to pay to have it returned, and hope they send me back a camera I hope I can depend on.Read B
Is the Sony A7CR the ultimate all-in-one camera? It just might be.Watch T
Also I love my a7CR which I've had for 2 years and use it far more than I do my heavier a7Rv. Very clever to discover that this 28mm Sony lens mistakes the magnetic filter adapter for an add-on UWA converter! Check out the recently released apochromatic and weather sealed Viltrox 35mm EVO ii. For the price you have to own it. It handles very nicely.Watch B
The Sony A7CR and A7CII are amazing little cameras that double as both everyday cameras as well as cameras that can balance full primes and zooms just as well as the larger A7IV and A7RV bodies.Watch D
I just bought the A7CR to get that succulent, full-frame 61 MP sensor in a tiny body. I want the tiny body! I want the massive resolution! I can stick this thing in my manbag and go everywhere with it. No one makes a camera like this one: huge sensor in a tiny body. I am willing to accept the minor tradeoffs to own this little beast of a camera.Watch P
The a7CR has 61MP along with incredible autofocus, great image quality and some really decent video specs as well. This is a super impressive system that allows you to capture some stunning photos but with a camera that almost fits in your pocket. Is this the perfect travel camera? Let's talk about it.Watch G
I am debating these two cameras right now and my head says Sony my heart says Leica. Maybe for once my head should win. Thank you for the brutal honesty. The Sony plus a G Master lens is the same price as the SL3 body alone. The Leica APO might deliver a few % more but as soon as you print the additional sharpness is lost in the paper’s grain.Watch D
The Sony a7CR is a great camera, but it's far from a perfect camera. Find out what I love and what I really hate about this camera.Watch D
I just took the a7cr on the its first cruise, I was thrilled and impressed. I used a combination of crop and FF lenses. I used raw M mostly and was able to go seamlessly between lenses and got stunning images. For animals and epic landscapes I would switch to raw L and a FF lens. The details, color and dynamic range blow you away.Watch G
I actually like this camera a lot. It's uh you know, I have my own opinion about the Sony A7CR and I also have my own opinion about my Leica SL3. Um Alex had it and he also shoots Leica and um I've been shooting with this one for quite some time, the SL3. before that one, the SL3S, and I even tried the SL2, which did not convince me.Watch J
I finally made the leap from the a6000 to the a7CR. I still have / love the a6000, but upgraded to the a7CR, primarily because none of the successive APSC offerings "upgrades" were all that compelling to me. The leap from APSC to FF is compelling and I can still use my APSC lenses in if needed and still have plenty of resolution.Watch T
The Sony A7CR might be the most underrated full-frame camera right now… and honestly, I almost missed it. After using cameras like the Sony A7 IV and A7R V for years, I didn’t expect this compact camera to win me over—but it completely changed how I approach travel and everyday photography.Watch F Facebook Paul Holmes · owner
I did a detailed review of my A7CR with lots of video and photo samples (Sony 24mm F2.8 and Viltrox 40mm F2.5 for a compact setup) if anyone is interested, also showing how you can really crop the images. No, I was close to order a Sony A7CR, until I saw the specs, the EVF has too low resolution and magnification, no lock on the dials, no joystick, the first curtain shutter is only electronic, the screen should have been fixed or only tilt, not flip-opout, if Sony fixes all these things in a version II, then I will pre-rder it !Watch I

For travel, trekking, landscape photography, fine art prints, product images, portraits, and everyday creative use, the A7CR Sony body offers a rare balance of size and resolution. It gives photographers the freedom to carry a smaller camera without giving up the file quality expected from a serious full-frame system.Read L
I've been using the Sony A7CR for over a year now, as a professional tool or as a walk around everyday carry, and despite some underwhelming features, it turned out to be a fantastic camera.Watch R
The Sony A7CR is truly a marvel of technology. I travel a lot, so weight and size were my main priorities — and this camera delivers with very few compromises. It’s impressive how much power Sony managed to fit into such a compact body. When I’m on the road, I usually pair it with the 40mm and my Leica Q2 Monochrom.Watch H

I was going to sell my 6600 and upgrade to the A7CR as an all-rounder video + photo, but the limitations of the A7CR for filming with my APS-C lenses is a deal breaker. It's a shame, with such a high megapixel density Sony could have made a well-thought-through use of the APS-C compatibility on this full-frame cam.Watch T

I share why I personally prefer the Sony A7CR, focusing on its superior autofocus, 61-megapixel full-frame sensor, and reliability for various shooting scenarios. However, the Fujifilm X-T5 stands out with its faster burst mode, beautiful color science, and compact APS-C design—perfect for wildlife and action photography.Watch J
The a7CR is nice but I really dislike that it and the a7Cii only have electronic first curtain shutters, sucks if you buy a fast lens and the bokeh is ruined in basically every shot…and you don’t wanna use electronic shutter mode because it’s a slow sensor. Yeah I’ll take the leaf shutter over that any day.Watch K

I have both, and I have large-ish hands (typically wear XL gloves) and I love the a7cr. When I’m shooting casually, and it’s an all-day thing, around the city etc, I’m shooting without a baseplate and I love how easy it is to grab and go. I’ll usually sling it around myself when I go for motorcycle rides.Read K

I don’t own the A7CR but thinking about it. Did not know about the USB tethering feature. I've had my a7CR for 3 weeks. It can replace my a7Rv and also my x100vi. The a7Rv now feels too heavy and too large. I've always prefered smaller cameras. I still have a Nex-7, converted to IR 590, and a pleasure to use. On the a7CR I have the movie button on the top plate programed to focus mag.Watch J

I have the A7CR, it is awesome. Having the 61MP available, really allows you to crop into a shot and with tools like DXO PureRAW 6, the noise from shorting at higher ISOs really can be reduced and it also reduces the noise on even ISO 100 shots (I use it as a RAW preprocessor on all my shots).Read A

A compact 61 megapixel camera, the Sony A7CR is an ultimate travel camera and street photography camera in terms of the combined quality and portability. It's definitely not for everyone, but for those who need 61 megapixels on the go this is it.Watch D
I bought the a7cr for the MP. I wanted a camera to scan 4x5 film negatives at the best resolution possible. It has now become my every day capture machine. Small, feature packed, versatile and pleasure to use. ARW files are great in Lightroom, great dynamic range and no problems.Watch J
So once you have both of them in hand, you'll see the Sony A7CR is significantly lighter and smaller in size. But that's also means less gripping area. But Sony already thought about this and gave you the solution in the box when they included this extended grip. But once you attach it, it becomes the same height as the Sony A7 R5, which make it really comfortable to use and it's only a little bitWatch K

In my opinion, the A7CR is worth the extra money over A7Cii if you value portability and quality over reduced rolling shutter, since you can crop a lot more on A7CR without sacrificing quality, thus reducing the need for longer telephoto lenses in many cases.Read B
Love this camera, have been using it for six months now. Biggest gripe is the size and resolution of the EVF. AI focusing and image quality are outstanding. Sony GM lenses are clinically perfect, and I enjoy using Voigtländer lenses to get that vintage look.Watch D
The idea with the Sony A7RC is great, but I will not get it, because the EVF is too small and with too low resolution, it lacks a joystick and the flip-out screens makes the camera too thick. But I do like the design with the viewfinder in the corner !Watch J
Fantastic tutorial on the A7CR! I just upgraded my Nikon D800 system from 2012 or so to the A7CR and what a powerhouse in such a compact and lightweight camera. This was an exceptional video and I really appreciate it! Thanks so much for sharing!Watch K
Between the lack of backup/ redundancy and large file size, I’d caution this purchase. Caution just like others have for me in the past. Only reason I didn’t go with larger bodies at the time was because the cf express cards are expensive AF.Watch D
What I love most about my A7CR is it doesn't look like a professional camera so people are not intimidated by it especially with the 40mm 2.5 G lens. The ability to crop allows for quick candid photos. It's the perfect travel/street camera.Watch J
I was worried where the price was going to land and I can see it at 3k, anything more than that and you might as well get the A7RV. I have the A7RV and it’s great and was considering the A74 a second body but this could be interesting.Watch G
