These are my top 2 choices when i upgrade to full frame, so last month I rented Z8 for my daughters senior photos and shot some wildlife too and I really loved it except I somehow kept bumping the very sensitive touch screen and changing my focal point in between shot with my daughter, and I also felt like the screen was smaller than I would have liked and I didn't like how it extended from camera (the mounting seemed cheap and not sturdy) but it was so easy to used after my d5500, the adapter (also rented) did not work for my own lenses even though it was supposed to, so I am glad I also rented a lens.Watch T
And if all of that sounds very familiar it’s because the Nikon Z8 is almost the exact same camera as the Nikon Z9, but in a much smaller body and even lower price.Watch C
I have a Z8 and its awesome. The only issue i have had was once when i was shooting in the noon, sun shining bright, i had godox ad600 and i tried to overpower the sun with the shutter speed around 1/8000. I saw banding in the pictures which the z8 didnt have. I guess its the only time z8 felt short. The Nikon Z8 handled this situation perfectly, and I'm very surprised at the results. Nikon has definitely upped their game here. I can't wait to see what I can capture in rich golden light. But a different bird has caught my attention. This incredible specimen of a bird is an adult reddish egret in full breeding plumage.Watch C

Overall, the Nikon Z8 is a big improvement from the Nikon D850.Watch E
I bought the Z8 at launch and have absolutely loved it. Preordered the Z6iii as a second body and while I think it’s great, I felt it was too similar to the Z8 for me to justify holding onto. I decided to cop the Zf and it’s been everything I wanted in a backup camera. Having two very distinct cameras has saved me a lot of mental bandwidth when deciding on which camera I want to use any given day.Watch J
I was wrong that it would not be a Z9 clone, but it is. How does the z8 compare to the z9, Sony a7R V and Canon EOS R5? Let's find out.Watch P
Last Saturday I used my Z8 to shoot ~800 pictures at 10FPS lossless raw of my friend's band playing at a pub, and was over 40% battery remaining at the end. This was 2 sets over 45 min each. Just stills, no video and using mostly my 70-200 2.8 lens. I had 2 spare batteries in my backpack ready to go if needed. The nice thing is the batteries are small and light, so carrying spares is no big deal.Watch E
Nikon’s Z8 is a phenomenal mirrorless camera for the priceWatch P
The Z8 is a masterpiece. Originally I laughed at the idea of fully electronic shutter. Then I tried it; one shot and I thought to myself: "Ok. Nikon know what they're doing." I just wish the mirrorless world can find a solution to extreme exposure. You will never be able to shoot a solar eclipse or laser show without frying the sensor. Which is why I will keep the D850 and D750 forever.Watch B
Nikon Z8: A More Compact Z9? https://youtu.Watch J
I can see a big improvement in the auto focus. In the past, some camera brands would have saved these features to put in their next body and made you buy that camera instead of updating the firmware. Nikon has been doing a great job in giving us new features and keeping us happy. I'm still waiting on another firmware update for my z6 II. That may not happen until the z6 III comes out.Watch T
This camera is probably one of the best value's of any camera currently on the market. It features a 45.7 megapixel, stacked-cmos sensor that can capture images blackout free at burst speeds of 20 fps raw, or 30fps/120fps JPG. It shoots 4k video up to 120p and 8k video up to 60p in N-Raw. The camera features 2 USB ports for simultaneous power delivery while connected to a network.Watch D
I have the Z6ii and Z7ii. I only bought the Z8 recently because it has better AFC. Most of my paid gigs and events are people moving very quickly, and I was missing some shots. However, I only use the Z8 for the fast events. The images are no different to my Z7ii. I did a model portfolio shoot two weeks ago and on this last Sunday, I shot 3 models on the beach - all with my Z7ii.Watch M
The Z8 is an impressive machine - and I’ll probably buy one - but nothing is perfect.Watch I
The Z8 is a great camera. I find being able to only use electronic shutter without compromise is extremely useful (being able to shoot silently for events and concerts without banding artefacts from lights and in screens that I used to be a big problem with slower sensors when shooting in silent mode) and the Z8 is the cheapest camera wit a fully stacked sensor on the market.Watch M
My Nikon Z8 started glitching mid-shoot—and I still can’t explain it.Watch C
The camera performed flawlessly. With the Active D lighting issue sorted out and the settings on the camera the way I like them, I could shoot most of the day with unbelievable results. Unlike the Z6 in my review here , the Z8’s battery lasted the day (more details on the Active D lighting and the battery later). The camera handled shaded situations exceptionally well.Read J
So it's really nice to be behind the camera this time and getting to see what the Z8 is capable of. Let me know what you think in the comments and if you want to see more Nikon videos in the future!Watch K
Nikon Z8 struggles hugely at events once the lights are turned WAY down and people are dancing. I have yet to find a setting where it doesn't miss MANY images. I even switched over to MANUAL focus the other night after much disappointment. I swear my d850 did way better. Is there some way to tackle this? VERY dark room and much movement. the camera never stops hunting.Watch N
Hands on with NEW NIKON Z8 (Spoiler Alert: It’s INCREDIBLE)Watch D
I bought a Z8 because I wanted a high res camera. The IQ is a step above the 24Mp cameras at lower ISOs, no question. The AF system is a step up from the Z6 (mostly). All small improvements that add up. It's a nice camera. I can see having it for a while yet; if it lasts half as long as my D600 has I'll be happy. But a 'forever' camera? Nah; it's still just a tool.Read G
The Nikon Z9 is a fantastic camera, but its size and price have proven to be serious barriers for many shooters. So now Nikon has this, the Z8, which is basically a Z9 with the latest firmware, but at 30% smaller and nearly 30% cheaper too. What's not to like? Let's get undone! ♪ Gerald Undone ♪ ♪ He's crazy ♪ What's happening, everybody!Watch W
You said that the Z8 was “hunting and missing shots more than I expected it in very low light situations.” And that is all I need to know. Lowlight autofocus w/o hunting would be my main reason to go mirrorless. And based on what you said, the Z8 still does this. So I’m staying with my Nikon DSLRs whose battery life last the entire day and will not cost me 4K USD$.Watch C
Well it's a miniaturised Z9, anyway, and that's nothing to complain about.Watch W
I bought the Z8 as a backup for my Z9 and I regret it. It is a great camera, but it is nowhere near as good as the Z9. I have both, but when I go out to shoot, I always grab the Z9. I have heard some people claim it is a mini-Z9, but they must have never used a Z9. The Z9 has all day battery life. Even shooting weddings, posed photos and the entire reception.Watch E
Today we are talking about why the Nikon z8 is still the best all around camera on the market in 2025.Watch L
I already own the Z8 and Z400mm f4.5. Switched from Sony A7iv & 200-600mm specially because of its complicated settings as said by you, simply like having separate Eye-AF mode selection for birds and animals. Most of the time I shoot mammals specially bigcats but when occasionally a bird pops up, the camera tends to miss the bird if its set to Animal Eye AF.Watch E
It's been the most reliable and well-rounded camera I've ever used. But this week, I'm trading my Z8 for the ZR to answer a few questions. First, how different are these two cameras? Which one is better and which one is the right choice for you? So, let's talk about it and big thank you to Squarespace for sponsoring today's video.Watch R r/Nikon u/mountainunicycler · owner
Any z camera with expeed 7 (50ii, 5ii, 6iii, Z8, Z9) has a dedicated bird detection algorithm and is fabulous in the scenarios you described. 180-600 is a great lens, I’m in fact using 200-500 with a ftz on a z50ii to get the 1.5 crop factor in my favour as I generally photograph birds. Z8 and Z9 have good batteries and you can buy a few spares as well.Read B
The Nikon Z8 has been one of my favorite full-frame camera systems to use, especially for the robustness, the I mean, just so many features inside of this camera. I mean, Nikon is constantly updating it. And this latest firmware is adding features that we've seen in other Z cameras that's been missing in the Z8 that are finally there and some features we have never seen before.Watch R
In my opinion, the Z8 is huge and very heavy. The combination of the Z8 and the (old) 24-70mm f/2.8 weighs around 600g more than my Sony A7RV with the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II. I also think that the Sony's autofocus is significantly better when it comes to recognizing a human or animal eye. The Nikon Z8, however, is clearly superior for video recording.Watch J
The standout feature for me is the stunning 8K 60fps video capability — it’s a game-changer for content creators who demand the highest quality footage. The clarity, sharpness, and rich color reproduction are simply amazing, and the Z8 handles it all effortlessly.Watch P
I’d say price and weight aren’t the only downsides of this camera. The 45 megapixels can actually be a problem for a lot of people who still believe that more megapixels automatically mean better image quality, which isn’t true. The Zf delivers a much more organic, creamy and genuinely beautiful image, even though it uses the same processor as the Z8.Watch J
The long-anticipated firmware update 2.0 for the Nikon Z8 is finally here and it brings some great new features and dramatic autofocus updates, but can they deliver in the field? The new FW also allows me to use the Z8 in a much different set up now!Watch T
That’s where the Nikon Z8 comes in. Not as a luxury, or something to show off online, but as a tool built for the kind of life I’m moving toward. It’s one of the reasons why I said I’d pick it when I compared the Nikon Z6III against the Z8 . A camera that can stand up to Scottish winters, to low light and endless rain, to long hikes and long drives.Read H
Why aren’t I keeping it? I’ll answer all that and more.Watch T
Is the Nikon Z8 still worth buying in 2026? Yes, the Nikon Z8 is absolutely still worth buying in 2026, especially if you shoot a mixture of landscape, wildlife, travel, family, or professional photography. It still offers one of the best combinations of autofocus, speed, resolution, image quality, handling, and lens support of any camera I’ve used.Read P
The Nikon Z8 isn’t marketed as a “wedding camera”, but after using it on real shoots, it’s become one of the easiest cameras I’ve ever trusted under pressure. Easily my go-to camera if I had to grab one.Watch T
This review is the best, especially because I maxed out my CC on the z8 and a couple of lenses. I find that its focus stacking feature works great. I did find out that the OM 1 mark ii has an integrated and graduated ND. that can be manipulated on the viewfinder. I would be looking for that feature on Nikon's next-gen cameras. Fingers crossed.Watch S
I highlight the autofocus performance, lens compatibility, and the lack of a mechanical shutter as notable features and shortcomings of the Z8. My review also covers grip and button customizability, lens performance, sensor flexibility, battery life, and the comparison with the Nikon ZF.Watch P
Disappointing that Nikon is working on a Z8 II while ignoring a smaller Z7 III with better image quality. Whatever its good qualities, the Z8 is a brick with limited dynamic range relative to the competition. I don't doubt that some users value readout speed over DR, but not every photographer needs a camera that shoots 100fps (or whatever).Watch T
This is one of the most popular cameras you can buy right now.Watch T
After 2 years of shooting video in weddings I have to say that the measures I had to take in order to avoid overheating are out of this world. I have to deactivate face direction, sometimes stabilization even when using gimbal and open all the ports to anticipate heat. Even I bought a dummy battery to avoid building heat inside the camera.Watch I
All I got to say is that I just think they make some incredible stuff. As of lately, you got the Z8, you got the Z52, Z63, and even the latest cinema camera, the ZR. So, Nikon is coming out with heavy hitters. So, you got to give Nikon some respect and you got to give the Z8 some respect as well.Watch A
Coming from the Z6, or even the Sony A7rIII, which I shot quite a bit with, one of the most significant differences I’ve noticed is how far away the camera will pick up subjects and track their faces; it’s really quite remarkable. The camera’s ability to maintain this tracking is also really impressive, even in dark conditions.Read R

The Nikon Z8 is basically a "mini Z9": with 45 megapixel stacked sensor, 20 frames per second and the same autofocus of the Z9, it looks like an ideal camera for wildlife photography and especially bird photography. And these two cameras, even though they're from different manufacturers, actually share many characteristics, but also have their distinct own advantages and disadvantages. I bought a Z8 three months ago and have not looked back. I have rekindled my love of photography with a dream camera that is an instant classic. The Z8 is bigger, and just gets everything, the focus system is incredible, and the speed, outstanding. My evaluation is this: the subject detection is very useful, and if you use it properly, it should work almost every time in photographically useful cases. Speaking as a wildlife photographer, I’d say the autofocus of the Z8 is very good, and certainly much better than the Nikon D500.Read R
But spoiler alert, 3 years later it's still almost perfect camera. It really is. It's lightweight enough, 910 g, but it with a grip it feels fantastic. Z8 is the best camera to be released in the last 10 years in my humble opinion. Adapted glass now works great especially Sony glass on the Nikon and manual Leica m lenses. This camera does it all, it’s a great hybrid with very little compromise. I love it. The video looks amazing.Watch P
From its impressive autofocus to its exceptional image quality, we dive into the features that make the Z8 a top contender for wildlife photographers.Watch P
I don’t own a Z8 but a Z9. I mainly shoot wildlife and birds but have never been pleased with my Z9’s AF performance. My current and only telephoto lens that I shoot with my Z9 is Z600mm F/4S TC. They are considerably less responsive and accurate than my Canon counterparts.Watch I
The Nikon Z8 is basically a mini Nikon Z9 at a huge discount. It's an incredibly capable camera and stands head and shoulders above the competition. Capable of capturing immensely detailed stills at up to 120fps, slow motion video, and 8K 60fps RAW video video recording, the Z8 is clearly better than any other mirrorless camera on the market.Watch R r/Nikon u/SuccessfulMongoose71 · owner
I can’t recommend the z8 enough. I keep it with me everywhere I go. I have a Z6ii as well, mainly for night sky and portrait photography (carry extra lenses on it). I shoot wildlife mainly - so I keep a 400mm prime on the z8. It’s fast, sharp, and versatile. Good luck!Read S

Posting this as an indication of Nikon Z8 reliability and build quality as I have had no issues with either and they have never been serviced by Nikon in any way! Amazingly great, especially with the 600pf for bird photography for the majority of usage counts.Read P
The Nikon Z8 II isn't just an iteration. It's an argument. An argument that you shouldn't have to compromise, that the camera in your bag can be equally at home capturing a split-second peak-action frame at 30fps and painting a cinematic scene in 8K RAW with the kind of color depth that post-production teams dream about. We're talking about the Nikon Z8 II, and yes, it is almost here.Watch P
Even though the Z8 is also a questionable choice as your first Nikon camera because of how complex and advanced it is, it is at least easier to justify a Z8 compared to a Z9. However, there are less expensive Nikon cameras that you should consider, too.Read L

Think your Z8 is "just" a 45MP beast? Think again. In 2026, detail is the new currency. Whether you’re shooting high-end editorials or massive landscape prints, the Pixel Shift feature on the Nikon Z8 is your secret weapon to hitting that 180MP mark.Read T

The handling of the Nikon Z8 has been a bit of a mixed bag for me. While there are definitely some positive changes, it took me a while to adjust to the new setup. However, after a few days of shooting with it, I’ve grown to really appreciate it.Read P

And I definitely feel that's the case with the OM-1 and my Nikon Z8. So, today I want to do a brief video and I'll briefly go through for which scenario I grab which camera. If that makes sense. So, as I said, I've used both cameras alongside each other for 2 years now. Now, I've had the OM-1 for maybe is it 3 or 4 years? A long time. Since it first came out, basically.Watch R
Loved my Nikon Z8 and Z9 for portraits and walk around, but the Nikon was just ‘good enough’ for sports and events where I had to have the dependability, so sold the Nikon and kept the Sony. If the Z8II can close that gap, I’d go back.Watch W
After a full two years of shooting landscapes, wildlife, airshows, travel photography, Milky Way photography, and even a total solar eclipse, I can confidently say the Z8 is still one of the most capable hybrid cameras ever made.Watch A
Which means it’s an absolutely sensational camera that can handle almost any photographic task with ease, yet for a lot less money (and weight) than before. For serious Nikon users, that makes for an incredibly tempting proposition.Read R

Question: im probally going for a nikon z8 but the only thing holding me back with the Z8 is no dual recording function -- im afraid of card failure while filming a wedding or event :s Do you think this is a problem?Watch 4
But thankfully, the uh event went smoothly and the Nikon worked fantastically in that scenario, as did the two lenses that I initially got for the system. You might very well be thinking that this is going to be very straight forward and the Nikon Z8 is the clear and obvious winner here but it’s not quiet that simple. as both these cameras have their pros and cons.Read B
I jumped into the Nikon system at the perfect time (Zf and Z8) and I'm loving every second of it. Once Nikon drops the hammer with their RED/Nikon cinema body I'll feel comfortable say goodbye to Sony for good.Watch J
Glad I invested 2 Nikon Z9 cameras as the Z8 is pretty much the same thing. If the Z8 had a 61 mp sensor and a HSL control feature in the camera's picture control settings I may have considered buying one.Watch P
Z8 is a great choice also though as it’s lighter and easier to gimbal. Like you mentioned it’s a personal preference, I’ve always like the chunkier bodies and brick like nature with the bigger battery.Watch B
There would be no reason to ever use the D500 over the Z8 other than nostalgia. If you put the Z8 into DX mode you have the same "750mm" FOV and same pixels per area (reach) as you do using the D500.Read K

Z8 is better than z6 in foto and video but z9 is better than z8 for filmers as it does not overheat as fast as z8 even tough it has the same specs. In the end you get what you pay for.Watch T
That makes the Z8 a powerful camera at a significant discount from what was already the lowest cost flagship (Nikon’s Z9 lists for considerably less than the Canon R3 or Sony A1).Read T
The weak point of the Z8 autofocus is in my opinion single shot people photography with eye af. Taking pictures more from the side might focus the wrong eye or the chin, the ears.Watch M
Damn, I thought this camera had the perfect specs on paper, but the inability to record video to both card slots is a dealbreaker at this price point and for professional work.Watch F
