A7IV is awesome..sure the A7V will be as well with updated performance AF, AI dedicated AF etc...they better put the Tilt/Flip screen from the A7R/A93 and maybe the body design of the A93 going forward that should be the standard now..the A93 body has slight curves, better grip, better "shutter button" layout..all around better ergonomics and much needed update that Sony Finally!!..made..haha sur

I bought the A7IV last month and have really enjoyed it thus far. I'm using it with a Sigma 24-70 Art lens. Switching from Nikon has a little bit of a learning curve but this camera is just so feature rich and has magnificent image quality. That AutoFocus is fantastic as well. I've also been extremely happy with the Sigma lens. So much so that I bought the 150-600 sport telephoto just last week.

I’d personally pass on the a7IV, if you have the budget for a7V that would be the better option for most people (or a7RV, or one of the other higher end Sony cameras). If someone is on a budget and needing something cheaper, I’d guess something like the Nikon Z5II might be a better option for many. Depending on prices etc, and how comfortable they are with playing the shutter lottery.

I think the A7Siii's relatively weak noise performance between the commonly used 3200 and 6400 ISO range is what might sell a few of these A7IV's. Although it has its own weaknesses (overheating obviously one of them), the Canon R6 might arguably be a better option for short clips of full frame 4K60 in moderately low light. You've gotta appreciate what Sony is doing overall though.

The Sony A7iv is a dream to me. It has all the stuff I am looking for - 10fps is more than enough for my style of taking photos (and to be honest I dont see any real diff between compressed and uncompressed raw) and 4k30 or 4k60 croped with a decent lens like the 16-35 or 14-24 f2.8 fits my needs just perfect too. Screen looks fine too because it is brighter than the one on the R6.

What I dont like about the A74 is the shutter acutation is really loud and I realized the silent mode and electronic first curtain are unusable just like the A73. I Also have the A75 now and I couldn't be more happy with all the features like precapture and you can actually use the silent shutter and the electronic first curtain for a quieter single shutter actuation.

Sony claims a reduced battery-life of 15% in stills-mode. And I confirm that's the case - Since it's the same NP-FZ100 batteries but updated features (such as the processor etc) and higher megapixels. For the shooting I did with some 4K 10bit clips, and some photography. I needed to bring an extra battery for a day out.

THe A74 is amazing! Great video! My only two issues is that 1. it has just one CF express type A card slot. Not the biggest deal, but just something to note. The second issue that was pretty major for me, is one of the updates resetting my camera shooting settings. I'm not sure what happened, but one of the prior updates had my photos being taken in SLOG3.

i went to a testing event from calument and yes for filming and normal photography this camera is very good, the only problme which i have with this camera is the readoutspeed of 17ms, for sport or Wildlife it is way to slow and the buffer fills up a bit to fast when shooting raw (about 100MB pre Shoot) if you shoot CRAW it was kind a ok.

A one year update on using the Sony A7IV and it has been a great experience. Coming from lumix cameras the transition has been great and it has genuinely made me a better videographer. I have also made no mention of ergonomics because I can honestly use the camera just as well as my old Lumix S5. I also think this is the cheapest camera that can produce the best video in todays market!

Not only is it great for cameras that don’t support slow motion, but it’s even useful for cameras that do but maybe you forgot to switch over. Sure, it’s not exactly true slow motion, but it’s damn close most of the time, and indistinguishable from real slow mo in some cases. For the best results, set you shutter speed appropriately.

Now, just quickly, some of the features. 33 megapixel, which is going to give you heaps of room to crop in on photos. Also, you're getting 4K up to 60 frames a second. Then, you're getting slow-mo up to 120 frames a second in HD. Now, this has dual SD card slots, which is nice.

I Currently own both and can attest to these results. However, not requiring a ton of video capabilities, I will be returning the A7IV. I shoot a lot of wildlife (mostly birds) and you cannot beat the amount of crop you receive with the RIV. Buffer speed hasn't affected me as much as I thought it would.

A7 IV had nicer detail/ colour range and blur in almost all photos, gave a nicer balanced image. Clear winner for me there! A6700 is good if you like taking videos, but for photos A7 IV is still a winner, is the subtle difference worth the huge price of the lenses though? Probably not for most people.

I’m in the middle. If you already have the a7iv is not really urgent for you to upgrade but if you can then I strongly advise that you do so. There’s so many small quality of life changes that end up stacking and you feel the difference. Specially if you’re a hybrid shooter you will notice it.

Sony A7IV is almost perfect. For me the Grip is not that ergonomic as Canon. But all the technical specs are great. 4k60 crop is a bit lame but if you need a wide angle you can also use the aps-c lenses 😉 And I love the E-Mount with alle the great Tamron, Sigma and other third party lenses.

Matti you hit it on the head. the Sony a7IV is going to underwhelm some and be just right for some, but no one will be completely blown away. Although, unless I missed somethig else. the 33-megapixel a7IV low light performed close to on par with the 12-megapixel a7sIII. That was a surprise.

I shot my documentary with the Sony A7 IV in The Philippines. Never overheated and my documentary is on Netflix. It's not about the camera. It's about the person using it. Also the FX2 is the same as the A7 IV, they have the same sensor. It's an A7 IV in an FX body.

It's a stunning hybrid machine for photo and video and a great price point especially seemingly with its comparability with 3rd party lenses, but when there’s absolutely the budget for gear, is that really the best choice to make for somebody working professionally?

I owned the a7iv and swapped to the a7cii, LOVE it. I do sports/wildlife. The autofocus is noticeably superior in the a7cii over the a7iv. plus, the .5 lb difference helps me a good bit since I have a spinal fracture. I use it all the time and i love the a7cii!

It’s really a lovely camera, I’m bought one coming from Nikon dslr, started doing more video and I needed a better camera than the D500. I just customised the control layout to be the same as the Nikon and it’s really made it super easy for me to transition.

It’s now been out for a few months, so I’d say it’s a pretty safe time to finally update your Sony A7IV! Version 6 brings a ton of new UI improvement to the A7IV - many of which are found on newer cameras like the latest ZV models and even the new Sony A7V.

Decent camera if the shutter doesn't crash early. I use mine mostly in electronic shutter mode (whenever I can anyway). Both a7III and a7IV (they use the same shutter) are somewhat prone to early shutter failure (some last decent others don't).

Prior to the release of the S5ii there were very few used A74’s up for sale. Now there are loads. I expect the L-mount lens depreciation will change soon as LUMIX grows its market share as a result of them no longer being crippled with CDAF.

a7IV still a workhorse in 2026. only reason why you would consider upgrading is if you've reached 300,000/ 400,000 shutter count on your camera then that's when your cameras starts to become unreliable even without noticeable signs.

One has to be crazy to get the a7iv to use it mostly for video. Get the FX30 is you plan to use the camera for video. If you are a still photographer using the camera just occasionally for video, then get the a7IV.

If you do little video work and shoot primarily static or slow-moving subjects, upgrading isn't necessary. In that case it is better to spend the difference in price (about 1,000 US dollars) on a great lens.

Sony A7IV is a great camera! I use it at work and also love it, but I bought a Canon R6II as my personal camera because I didn’t like the 60fps crop on the A7IV! But other than that I like a lot the camera.

Has anyone had mega issues with the Sony a7 iv with not connecting to the lens? 24-70GM F2.8… iv had the worst luck ever… also, delay on/off function I would turn it off and it woudl stay on or vice versa.

Finally the Sony A7iv the shutter is quieter. I never hear anyone talking about how loud the shutters are on these Sony's. I'm so very happy that the A7iv is quieter.

I would set your white balance manually, the A7IV is all over the place with its AWB. These shots look okay, but as some have said they’re not completely in focus.

Sony A7IV got damaged because of a laser hitting the sensor, and suddenly everything stopped. What looked like a small issue turned into a ₹70,000 repair problem.
