Flagged as a product to avoid

1 of 5 research runs entered this as a product to avoid rather than a pick.

A superseded model coasting on its old reputation, with the video recording limits that were the headline complaint of its generation and that the Mark II fixed; DPReview now crowns the Mark II as best high-end camera.

If you want a professional mirrorless camera that can handle weddings, portraits, wildlife, and serious hybrid work, the Canon EOS R5 is still a top tier choice. It delivers the kind of autofocus reliability and file flexibility that helps you get paid with less stress. The tradeoffs are mostly about management: you need a smart storage workflow, fast media, and sensible video settings if you plan to record heavy formats.

Today, the R5 feels even better than on the day of its announcement. With firmware updates and the release of new lenses, you can't go wrong with the Canon R5. This is a fantastic camera in its price segment for almost any situation. Great video, great photos, top-notch autofocus, great RAW files, a wide selection of lenses—both native and adapted, and, honestly, the result speaks for itself.

Overall I’m going to give the Canon EOS R5 4.8/5. It is a fantastic camera that works well in the majority of scenarios, making it a real work horse for photographers of all genres. In an ideal world it wouldn’t be quite so expensive (although the price has come down since launch). Also, gimmicks like 8K video which push up the price but aren’t of value to the majority of users could have been left off the spec sheet.

The R5 is a worthy upgrade, but the R six is a great camera on its own. And to answer the big question, is 20 megapixels enough? I was pleasantly surprised how well I could do with 20 megapixels and the types of photos I got and the ability to crop in at 20 megapixels with a very sharp lens. I was quite impressed.

Overall, it goes without saying that the Canon EOS R5 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera is unarguably one of the best cameras on the market for both stills and video. The quality of the images, the shooting features, the superior ISO, and the dynamic range are all but a few of the reasons this camera is a great choice and one of Canon’s finest products to date.
