If you are in the market for buying a camera and you want to start out with the Sony body and you don't want to spend too much and you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, the Sony a6100 is a good start for you. Even in 2025, I'm a believer that the camera itself isn't always the thing you should always look for and what it could do. It's definitely the lens that really where the investment comes in and that really makes a difference. But for now, this camera here really works wonders.

The Sony a6100 is the better camera for most buyers in 2026 because it gives you modern autofocus, 4K video, a flip-up touchscreen, and a much easier beginner experience. The Sony a6000 still makes sense if you want the cheapest possible entry into Sony E-mount and mainly shoot still photos.

i had the a6100 for a kinda long time, and I gotta say that even in 2026 is still good for photography (not video work cuz no slog). i tried last christmas a a6400 from a friend, and the 61 and 64 are just copy and paste. literally same performance etc.

If you want something lower end on this spectrum of cameras that can do both very nicely. Both cameras have the 24 megapixel aps-c sized sensor. Of course, one is Sony, one is Canon. Canon has the dual pixel autofocus, but Sony's autofocus is extremely fast and definitely improved of their 6000 camera. I really don't think you'll have any concerns with autofocus with either camera.

And for me, and thousands of other creators, that camera was the Sony a6100. This little unassuming the plastic body was the foundation. It is a camera I used to start landing real commercial clients, shooting real events out here in Las Vegas, and building the momentum for my company Kelly Productions. While the a6100 is an absolute masterpiece for photography, it can be a massive trap if you're trying to build a high-end, you know, video production company.
