Potensic Atom 2

T Taketravelinfo.com Caleb Warren · reviewer · Dec 2025

The Potensic ATOM 2 Fly More Combo earns an 8.5/10, recommended-with-caveats verdict for travelers, beginners, and hobby creators who want 48MP stills, stabilized 4K HDR video, AI-assisted shooting, and three batteries in a compact package. Its main compromise is the absence of full collision avoidance, so buyers who regularly fly close to obstacles should consider a model with more comprehensive sensing.

The Potensic Atom 2 has become one of my favorite budget drones because it offers a great balance of price, build quality, camera performance, and simplicity. With 48MP photos, 4K 30fps video, GPS, subject tracking, waypoints, three-battery Fly More options, and a controller with a built-in screen , it offers a lot for someone looking for a capable beginner drone without spending DJI-level money.

A host of smart and convenient features have been added to the ATOM 2 to make piloting that much easier. Starting with AI Visual Tracking, your target can be automatically framed and filmed on the move with either Spotlight, Follow, or Parallel modes. When starting or ending your flight, just press the takeoff/landing button on the app to automatically have the ATOM 2 do either.

The DJI Ban is coming, the Potensic Atom 2 could be a great alternative and the PTD-1 controller completes the package.

Have had the drone for 2 weeks and loving flying this thing. The Atom 2 is the first drone I’ve ever owned and flown. Just curious….how many total lifetime hours or miles should this thing last (as long as I don’t do something dumb and crash it).

The Atom 2 checks all the boxes. When I first powered on the Atom 2 an OTA update for the Atom 2 and it's controller was done V 20 for the Atom 2 and V 17 for the controller via my phone wifi Android 15 and running Potensic Eve app.

By the way, I also strongly recommend the Potensic Atom 2 , which has a similar design but an improved controller and much better range. It does sometimes cost a bit more, though, so I left this edition at the top of the list.

Could this be the ultimate budget drone?

An improvement on the original Atom, we think the Potensic Atom 2 is the best non-DJI drones , and ideal for beginners. It's impressively well built and this deal gives you three batteries for 1 1/2 hour worth of flight time.

Priced at $339.99 for the standard kit and $459.99 for the Fly More Combo, this feels like a worthy competitor to other drones of the same price point. Check out our full unboxing experience below, plus some sample videos we took.

This HUGE Potensic Atom 2 Update is a GAMECHANGER (Waypoints)

The Potensic Atom 2 is an affordable entry level drone that has an impressive number of features, like a 3 axis gimbal, 4k camera, waypoints, quickshots and follow mode!

One of the cool things about Potensic is they make a fullfeatured product. I know it's got a number of intelligent flight modes. I know it's got some tracking modes from flying potenti drones in in the past. I know it's got a pretty good camera on it.

The Atom 2 packs a lot of features for a bargain price.

I was able to capture some nice video of the Snake River from way down into the canyon. I also took a couple of photos as well as some panorama pictures. After this flight I sent the Atom 2 back to Open Circuit RC & Tech who loaned me the drone.

I thought it was going to feel a bit more cheap and plasticky than I'm used to, but no. It feels very wellmade, and the arms fold out on nice, solid hinges. The remote is a rather hefty lad, but again, the build quality exceeded my expectations. It feels really nice in the hand.

Finally a great mini drone with awesome image quality, great quality accessories and those follow modes that DJI had removed. So let's see what this mini camera drone can do!

this drone offers impressive performance and features for filmmakers and content creators all under $500!

With impressive specs, user-friendly interface, and affordable price point, these drones are perfect for beginners.

Now, the Atom 2, as some of you already know, is a great little drone, which I've featured on the channel before

This compact drone delivers cinematic footage, smooth stabilization, and performance you’d expect from something way more expensive.

The movement is so smooth and precise that it appears almost indistinguishable from an automated point-of-interest orbit — a testament to the Atom 2’s excellent flight stability and control precision.

So very simple, very easy way point mission there. That was no problem at all. I do believe there's a a tracking feature built into it. So, I'll test that out now. And I think it might be as simple as drawing a square around, hitting follow. I can see where the quick shots come up now. And hopefully the drone should follow me. Hopefully the drone should follow me. And it does look like it is. Is it following me? I'm not so sure. It's not. Ah, you have to hit go. Okay. So, there you go.

If you’re looking for an affordable 4K mini drone that’s under 249g, easy to fly, and packed with features, the Potensic Atom 2 might just be the best value drone of 2025.

If you fly the Potensic Atom 2 drone, this controller is a total game changer!

This has to be the best looking drone kit that we have seen from any manufacturer in years.

Its got a really cool new cinematic video feature that will take your videos and B-roll to the next level. Also added some Camera adjusting settings to improve our video quality.

I like the grip on this.

💡 Pro tip: You can use almost any ND filters designed for the DJI Mini 2 Pro, and they’ll fit perfectly on the Atom 2. The ones shown here are just for reference, so feel free to experiment with what works best for your setup.

The Potensic Atom 2 ($299) is the features-first alternative: bigger sensor and subject tracking, with a slightly rougher app.

Now, I actually like the Atom 2, especially for the price, but there were definitely areas where it needed improvement.

Unfortunately, it has the same light color as a DJI Mini, which means the drone will be more difficult to see in the sky. It's already hard to see because it's so small, but to make it a light gray, that was a mistake. Build-wise, the Atom 2 is very similar to the DJI Minis. Now, it has to be lightweight, so you need to treat it gently if you want it to last.

I mean, don't get me wrong. The signal was ok, but it could definitely be better.

As I remembered, the Atom 2 is a great little craft for the money.

Cuz in the past, it would land pretty close, few feet, but you know, it's I don't know, maybe 50% it might land on the pad if you're lucky. So, what are we to do? Let's get Dora up, and see if this new update works. I'm about to take um Dora up and do her a little flight. And uh hopefully you can see my screen.
