Flagged as a product to avoid

8 of 9 research runs entered this as a product to avoid rather than a pick.

Superseded by the Steam Frame, which Aftermath calls its worthy successor: Fresnel lenses, aging controllers and a design half a decade old leave it outclassed at its position, and every dollar is better spent on the Steam Frame.

  1. Superseded by the Steam Frame, which Aftermath calls its worthy successor: Fresnel lenses, aging controllers and a design half a decade old leave it outclassed at its position, and every dollar is better spent on the Steam Frame.

    Flagged 16 October 2026
  2. 2019 Fresnel-lens design sold at flagship price, with a lower-resolution panel and requirement for Lighthouse base stations; cheaper headsets outclass it on every axis.

    Flagged 16 October 2026
  3. 2019 design with outdated hardware and inflated price; no longer recommended for new builds.

    Flagged 16 October 2026
  4. A 2019 design with Fresnel lenses and aging controllers that Valve's own current headset outclasses, coasting on the reputation it earned half a decade ago.

    Flagged 16 October 2026
  5. Its Fresnel lenses and display technology are two headset generations old, and the full kit remains one of the most expensive ways into PC VR. The Steam Frame and Quest 3 deliver a more modern PCVR experience for meaningfully less.

    Flagged 16 October 2026
  6. Former default headset no longer appears in current buying guides, with experts directing buyers to newer options like Steam Frame or Bigscreen Beyond 2.

    Flagged 16 October 2026
  7. Valve has stopped manufacturing it, leftover stock still sells at a premium it no longer earns, and Valve's own Steam Frame successor beats it on weight, resolution and wireless while dropping the base stations.

    Flagged 1 September 2026
  8. Former PCVR gold standard that current specialist coverage explicitly names as outdated framing; old Fresnel lenses, old controllers, and a direct successor in the Steam Frame make it a poor buy today.

I'm really excited for this headset, particularly about the controllers. I think they look awesome And with the individual finger tracking technology it's going to make games that support it really feel next level. This could mark the first second generation VR headset on the market due to all these new and exciting features

When it comes to PC VR there is only one King and that is the Valve Index. There is nothing that compares price, feature and spec wise to it. That is why it is Still the Best PC VR Headset and is the one that all who aspire to delve deep into the metaverse aim to use

The Valve Index is a very impressive VR Headset with a few problems that make it very hard to recommend to anyone getting into virtual reality; especially when things like the Quest 2 exist. But that doesn't mean it's not for anyone. Given the right person, the Index is everything a virtual reality enthusiast would need and more

The Valve Index is, to this day, a VR powerhouse and we cannot deny that. But at the same time, the VR market had been developing and we are on the cusp of modernised PCVR with Valve working on their newest headset behind the scenes and other companies also trying to bring some balance in the PC to Standalone VR market. For anyone new to VR there are plenty of cheaper options available with headsets like the Quest 2 and Pico 4, but even when you are a tried and tested PCVR enthusiast it still is hard to swallow the current price of the Valve Index

I feel like experienced/h hardcore players should get the Valve Index cuz the controllers and the tracking can still make it a great experience. But for most people, it's probably not the best option anymore. If you're new to VR, something like the MetaQuest 3 is usually a better choice because it's cheaper, it works standalone without a PC, and it still supports PC VR even if you want to connect it

If I didn't have to have the base stations, I think I I would be so happy with this headset if I didn't have to deal with the base station issues. I could probably deal with the base stations if I didn't have to deal with the tether. The tether for me is the killer on this
