The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO impresses with its carbon tonearm and electronic speed switching for precise vinyl enjoyment.

The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO is widely seen as a solid entry-level turntable that punches above its price with better damping, a heavier platter, and an upgraded carbon tonearm. It typically sells for around £449 in the UK and is praised for upgrade potential, though some owners mention hum issues and fiddly bias weight setup.

They've improved the suspension, motor system, and pre-mounted a superb Sumiko Ranier cartridge for the best-sounding Debut Carbon yet.

One reason it stands out at this price is the carbon-fiber tonearm. It keeps mass low while staying stiff, which helps limit vibration traveling into the cartridge. That usually translates to cleaner tracking and fewer of the small distortions that can make budget turntables sound congested or rough.

Even though it’s now technically the outgoing model, the Carbon EVO still holds its own and is excellent value if you’re looking to move into proper Hi-Fi without overspending.

The Debut Carbon is already nearly the perfect turntable, especially considering the price badge and the used materials. Now we took our time to think again. We have done a lot of research to make the Debut Carbon even better, but our main objective has not changed over the years. We still want to build an affordable high-performance turntable that not just looks incredibly luxurious and modern, but also features a great sound quality.

The absolute benchmark in the mid-range. Carbon tonearm, Pick It MM EVO, 9 finishes. This is THE turntable to buy if you only buy one.

The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO is now surely the crème de la crème of sub $1K turntables. With a heavier damped steel platter, better motor suspension, height adjustable metal feet and electronic speed change (!) the Debut Carbon EVO is a fabulous improvement on a certified classic. Oh, and there is also now a selection of Satin finish models for those of us who are, er, dusting challenged. Nice!

This feature alone surely gives it the edge over Rega and their own highly regarded Planar series! Don't lift it, just spin it! There are also nine plinth finishes to choose from - five satin, three gloss and one real wood veneer. The turntable is suppled with the Pro-Ject Connect-It interconnect (RRP £45) and the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge and stylus (RRP £95). USA customers receive the Sumiko Rainier cartridge and stylus.
