Today, we’re putting the spotlight on a mid-tier turntable that hits it out of the park on multiple fronts: the Rega Planar 1 Plus. Not only is it crafted by one of the industry’s best, the Planar 1 Plus can be set up and operated by a total novice with a pair of powered speakers, and it delivers BIG in the sound department. And if all of that’s appealing, you can get it for under 600 bucks. This is one piece of equipment that strikes a great balance of value and performance, opening the door to real audiophile playback without crushing your wallet.

Especially easy with Rega turntables and even moreso the Planar 1.

The P1 is a good starter table and can be almost fully upgraded as you have the money. I've set one up at a bar and found it to be easy to use and highly reliable. Options include: new cartridge, glass platter, platter mat, tonearm. Rega is the only company that designs and builds their turntables at their own factory. Rega is dedicated to building better sounding, engineered audio. Their competition doesn't.

The Rega Planar 1 represents everything a value turntable should be: exceptional build quality , thoughtful engineering , and room to grow . Handmade in England by one of the most respected names in analog audio, this is the best value turntable for listeners who want long-term performance without breaking the bank.

When audiophiles were asked which turntable they'd genuinely recommend to someone just starting out, the Rega Planar 1 topped the list with nearly 20% of the vote. That's a significant lead over everything else on the ranking, including decks that cost several times more.

If your amplifier doesn't have a dedicated phono input — and most modern amplifiers don't — the Planar 1 Plus removes the need to buy a separate phono stage, making it an excellent all-in-one starting point.

Collectors consistently praise the Planar 1 for being beginner-friendly. Its stripped‑down design also means fewer parts to break or drift out of alignment, making it nearly maintenance‑free for years.

This turntable doesn’t feature a Phono Stage, but if you do need one however, they conveniently have their Planar 1 Plus , a similarly priced alternative that’s easier to slot into an existing system!

The Rega Planar 1 ranks first because Rega keeps the design focused on the parts that most directly shape playback, namely the motor, tonearm, and platter.

It sounds epic as well, and while it costs more in the U.S. than the U.K., it's still an excellent turntable for just about everyone.
