Turntables that pack in a built-in phono stage, automatic operation and Bluetooth streaming tend to inherently compromise overall sound quality, but this excellent Sony deck manages to offer effortless usability along with an entertaining sound. You get a healthy dose of drive and attack, and there’s enough detail and dynamics for the core emotion and vibe of the song to be relayed – it’s a fun listen. Yes, a more purist turntable like the Planar 1 (above) will sound better in every way, but you can’t beat Sony’s hugely versatile features set for such great value.

I've been using the phosphorus monosulfide LX310BT for a few weeks now and honestly it's one of the easiest turntables I've ever used. Setup took less than 10 minutes. Unbox it, place the platter, loop the belt, connect it, and you're done. No balancing tone arms, no cartridge alignment. Just press start and it plays your record automatically. The design is sleek and minimal. The matte black finish looks clean. The buttons are simple and it fits perfectly on a desk or shelf without taking over the space. It's lightweight but feels well put together. Sony kept it elegant and modern. Performance-wise, it's fantastic for casual and even serious listening.

The reason the PS-LX310BT is on this list is that it sounds remarkably good for the price, and has a decent phono stage as well. No, you're not getting audiophile-grade output from the Sony, and putting it side-by-side to a higher-end turntable (especially one with a better cartridge) will show up its deficiencies, but what audio it does pump out is very enjoyable. I've spent time with one and, while I would never take it over my Technics SL1200, I wouldn't say it's leagues worse either.

Sound quality is another strong point of the Sony PSLX310 BT. It uses a belt drive mechanism with an aluminum diecast platter which helps reduce vibration and ensures stable rotation. This results in smooth playback, clean sound, and reduce distortion. The straight aluminum tone arm improves tracking accuracy, delivering detailed and warm audio that vinyl lovers truly appreciate. The built-in phono preamp with switchable output makes this turntable extremely flexible.

It's not all that different from the model it replaces, but that's not a bad thing since the PS-LX310BT was a time-tested favorite. The LX3BT is versatile enough to serve as someone's first record player or as an easy-to-use turntable for an enthusiast.

Sony is well regarded in the affordable turntable space — its 2019-released PS-LX310BT ($450) remains a fan favorite — but, oddly, the brand hasn’t released a new turntable in years.
