Our new budget pick — the Roborock Q7 M5+ — comes with technology once reserved for mid- and higher-priced robot vacuums. In addition to mapping your home, it can schedule cleanings, adjust carpet and hard-floor cleaning settings, and let you set no-go zones. It uses lidar, or pulsed laser light, to measure the distance between the robot and objects, so it doesn't bump into every little thing. That said, it isn't able to avoid objects like pet accidents, socks under the bed, or cords, which I expected considering the budget price.

The Roborock Q7 M5 is proof that you don’t need to spend £500+ to get serious suction: it’s rated at 10,000 Pa — a figure that comfortably beats several models costing two or three times as much — in a stripped-back package with no self-emptying dock, no mopping frills, and no subscription nonsense. This is a 2025 refresh of an older Roborock chassis, and the engineering focus is obvious: nail the fundamentals of suction and basic navigation, and skip everything else.

But the key part of this value is that as a mop, it is also going to have better performance than its competitors because it has a water tank. And that water tank has adjustable water levels that you can set inside the app. And it still comes with a small but functional auto empty dock. So it doesn't have a big footprint on your floors.

The roborock Q7 M5 is the one to buy if you want a robot that maps your home and keeps its brush clear of hair. If what you actually want is to forget it exists, the Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 empties itself and washes and dries its own pads. And at the bottom of the range, the Conga M50 X-Treme is where laser navigation starts. Whatever you pick, do not let a pascal figure choose it for you.

If you don't have tons of cash to splash and are happy with something relatively simple, the Roborock Q7 M5 is the best budget robot vacuum I've tested. For a very affordable price (with further discounts cropping up regularly) it delivers capable cleaning – including the kind of suction specs I'd expect to see on a much pricier bot.

While you do lose the self-emptying dock, the M5's cleaning capabilities were great enough to earn the title of the best budget vacuum from experts at TechRadar . The Q7 M5 costs $229.99, about $20 under the L5 , and in independent testing at Vacuum Wars, the M5 came out ahead overall: better mopping performance, better pet hair pickup on carpet, and more consistent results across floor types. It also has more suction than the L5 (10,000Pa vs 8,000Pa) and the same LiDAR navigation.

It's a solid pick if you're all about constant clean on a tight budget. It definitely boosted my floors from an F to a B minus fast. Well, then the Yeti showed up on my doorstep, and I've got to say, it stole the show. Where the Robok was doing surface clean, the Yeti really got in there and did the deep clean that I was really wanting. The app was the first major difference I noticed, though. It was much more user friendly, and there were more customizable options like child buck. The 8000PA suction devoured hardwood, dust, and pet fluff. Easy peasy. It's true mapping.

It's a real life-saver for pet owners, dramatically reducing the need for frequent brush clean-ups. Of course, no system is perfect. Very dense fur may still sneak in occasionally, but this design definitely cuts down on regular detangling frustrations. The Roborock Q7 M5 Plus not only vacuums, but mops simultaneously, catching microscopic dust particles that often escape traditional vacuums. With three adjustable water flow settings, you can customize cleaning intensity depending on your floor type and mess. On the flip side, mopping performance isn't as heavy duty as stand-alone mop systems. So, it's best suited for light spills and dust, rather than deep scrubbing. Finally, the PreciSense LiDAR navigation system ensures precise mapping and efficient cleaning routes around your home.

In real-world usage, 8,000 Pa is strong enough to handle dust, crumbs, pet hair, and everyday debris across both hard floors and carpets. It is not just about raw power, but consistent cleaning performance, which makes it very reliable for daily use in apartments and medium-sized homes. Another important feature is the LiDAR navigation system. In practical terms, this allows the robot to scan and map your home accurately, rather than randomly moving around. It creates a structured cleaning paths, which improves efficiency and ensures fewer missed spots during cleaning sessions. The multi-level mapping is also a big advantage in real-world usage. If you live in a multi-floor home, the robot can store different maps and adjust accordingly.

In real-world scenarios, this is one of the biggest quality of life upgrades because it reduces daily maintenance to almost zero compared to traditional robot vacuums. Navigation is handled by precise sense lidar, which is one of the more reliable mapping systems in this category. Lidar-based robots are generally very accurate at mapping rooms, avoiding obstacles, and cleaning in structured patterns instead of random movement. That translates to more efficient cleaning and fewer missed spots over time. The mop functionality adds another layer of convenience, turning this into a hybrid cleaning system. While robot mopping still isn't a replacement for deep manual scrubbing, it works well for light maintenance cleaning, dust removal, and keeping hard floors consistently fresh.

One of the standout features is its 10,000 PA suction power, which is significantly higher than many competitors in this range. It's highly effective at pulling dirt, dust, and pet hair from both hardwood floors and carpets. The mopping function is designed for light cleaning, handling surface stains well, but not replacing deep mopping by hand. The Q7 M5 Plus uses Pressy Sense Liar navigation, ensuring efficient room mapping and coverage. It rarely misses spots and adapts well to complex room layouts. Noise levels are moderate, louder on max suction, but generally tolerable for everyday cleaning. Features and smart control. App control via the robot rock app and compatibility with Alexa Google Assistant adds convenience.

Performance-wise, the Q7 M5 Plus is impressive. The 10,000PA suction power, one of the strongest in its class, handles carpets, rugs, and hard floors with ease. The dual anti-tangle brushes work effectively against pet hair, a major plus for pet owners. Its mopping system is improved, too, distributing water evenly without oversaturating surfaces. The Pressy Sense LAR navigation ensures efficient mapping and smart pathing, reducing random movements. Through the Robo Rock app, you can customize cleaning zones, schedules, and suction intensity. However, it can be somewhat loud on the highest power mode. And the mopping isn't deep scrub quality. Better suited for maintenance cleaning than tough stains. Smart features and usability. The robot rock app integration remains a highlight.

The Q7 M5 did outstanding in the dried-on stain removal test with a score of 158, far outperforming the average robot at 93. However, it did so by using a ton of water, leaving behind twice as much as the testing average (2.0 grams compared to the average of 1.01). It didn’t really matter what water level we selected either – the results were the same.

But the M5 did seem to do better at removing fine debris from the surface of carpets. However, in our carpet deep clean test, where we embed sand into medium-pile carpet and measure how much the robot can remove, the L5 actually did better. The M5 was just below average in this test, while the L5 performed above average, removing 80% of the sand. Suction was a big pro for both robots. Roborock advertises the L5 has 8,000 Pa in its highest setting, while the M5 is rated at 10,000 Pa. Both robots performed extremely well in our suction testing with scores we would consider great at any price.
