In our GeForce RTX 5090 review , we found that it offers the best gaming performance out of the box, dethroning the GeForce RTX 4090. The substantial improvements in its specs helped the GPU outperform its predecessor by around 20% at 1440p and around 30% on average at 4K. The performance difference is much smaller at 1080p, as 1080p is more CPU-bound.

In DaVinci Resolve, the 5090 was between 7% and 33% faster than the 4090, with exports to H.265 8-bit 4:2:0 landing at the upper end of that range. Against the 3090, improvements ranged from 38% to 200%, with exports to H.265 8-bit 4:2:0 reaching the 200% mark.
