AMD's Radeon RX 9070-series has been on the market for a bit over six months now, with very positive reactions. The new GPUs are designed to sit at strategically important price points, that are mass-market compatible—there is no high-end model that competes with the RTX 5090, for example.

There was nothing special about the ASRock RX 9070 GRE I tested — it's just a simple GPU cooled by three large fans — so I'll just get straight to the specs. It features 12GB of VRAM that's slower than the 16GB of memory in the 9070, and it also has eight fewer compute units and ray tracing accelerators. That's a major reason why AMD can offer it for less than the 9070.

This is the video card you want if you want to maintain 4K gaming, 1440p high-end gaming under 1,000 bucks. This is it. And the one right here is made by ASUS, it's the ASUS Prime OC model. You don't have to get the OC model. The OC model only adds like 1 to 3% performance, but it comes in white. Uh now, it's not uncommon to find these on crazy sales.

AMD has positioned the Radeon RX 9070 GRE as a 1440p GPU that is priced competitively against Nvidia's 16 GB RTX 5060 Ti. Taking AMD's word for it – I don't have a 5060 Ti 16 GB for comparison at this time – the performance figures they have provided indicate that the 9070 GRE is indeed significantly superior to the 5060 Ti when gaming.

So let's go over everything here and compare it vs my experience on Nvidia RTX 5000.

I got the Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT GAMING OC on release, switching from Nvidia. I did driver cleaner and installed adrenaline. Have been updating drivers whenever possible through adrenaline, and have seen almost zero problems, aside from the rare driver crash.
