With tour level golf balls increasingly being engineered for players with truly elite ball speeds, models like the base Srixon Z-Star feel more important than ever. Tuned to suit a wider range of better players who want to shoot low but don't necessarily hit it miles, the Z-Star is a truly premium ball that shines for its versatility, delivering exceptional distance, wonderful feel and fantastic short game performance. At £44.99 per dozen, which makes it a fair bit cheaper than its three major rivals in the premium ball sector, the Z-Star also represents an excellent value proposition.

The Srixon Z-Star family is crazy good, crazy slept on. Everyone just goes straight to a Titleist and a Pro V1, Pro V1X, and you know, it's a very good golf ball, of course. Yeah. But you need to give these a look.

The Srixon Z-Star is the superior choice for high-speed players, while the Q-Star Tour fits swing speeds under 95 mph. The Z-Star features a premium 0.6mm urethane cover that offers 15 percent more greenside spin than the Q-Star Tour’s thicker coating. While the Q-Star Tour is cheaper at big-box retailers, grabbing a Mint condition Z-Star from the Monkey gives you tour-level performance for a fraction of the retail cost.

The Diamond is arguably the best of the trio of Z-Star golf balls released for the 2025 season for a number of reasons. Srixon claim the XV is the longest ball of the Z-Star family but we found the Diamond kept up with it during our testing. It also produced lower trajectory and spin - perfect for those looking to hit the ball lower or who play often in windy conditions.

So, personally, this golf ball should tick a lot of boxes for me. So, I'm really looking forward to testing it. Now, in terms of the technology, it's a three-piece construction. Got the fast layer core, which we saw in XV, but also slightly thicker in terms of the cover that it's got on here. And that's really to try and improve the spin both around the greens and also for your pitch shots in there as well. It will spin a little bit more with irons, too. Now, the SeRM technology that we've seen in the balls when they were released last year in both Z-Star and XV is also present in here.

While the Srixon Z-STAR golf balls didn’t stand out in any one area of our 2025 Ball Test, they didn’t fall short in any, either. They were among the most balanced-performing balls in the test. As mentioned, Srixon has done a good job of giving each of its three Z-STARs its own identity.

There's a lot to love about the Z-Star XV, and like the other two models in the Z-Star line-up, this is a brilliant golf ball for attacking pins with. It's incredibly versatile across all three swing speeds, and it puts itself in the conversation with the Z-Star and Z-Star Diamond.

Best All Around Value → Z-STAR (standard) . Balanced spin, flatter iron trajectory and strong wedge numbers ( 5,814 rpm ) make it a reliable option if you don’t want extremes. If price is the deciding factor, Q-STAR ULTISPEED gives you distance at the lowest cost.

The Stricks Zstar XV sits right in that elite tour level golf ball category. Think of it as Strixon's answer to the Titus Prov1X or the Bridgestone Tour BXs. Designed for players with medium to high swing speeds who want a firmer feel, big distance, and tour level control.

One of the conclusions we reached during our review of the latest generation was that there is less overlap between the three models than ever before. Each ball has a specific golfer in mind and a clearly defined purpose within the lineup.

They are just as good as ProV1 balls but are 50% more affordable when they go on sale a couple of times a year, essentially buying two dozen for the price of one dozen. Good luck.

The Z Star XV is a four piece ball that is designed to explode through the air, while taking advantage of an all new external coating that helps the ball grab the club face and spin harder off of your irons. The Z Star is a 3 layer ball designed for similar performance from slower swing speeds. For more information, visit https://www.srixon.com.

The 2026 Srixon Z-Star excels in greenside spin and control, especially with wedges, offering a soft feel and excellent stopping power, while the 2026 Titleist Pro V1 provides a fantastic balance of distance, feel, and spin, with lower driver spin for straighter flight but still ample short-game spin, making the Z-Star better for spin-focused players and the Pro V1 ideal for all-around performance, with the Z-Star XV often preferred by faster swingers for firmer feel and more rollout.

I think the biggest takeaway from the Srixon Z-Star test here is that this golf ball is exceptionally playable as a tour quality golf ball at average golfer speed. If I was an average golfer speed player and I was looking for a urethane three-piece covered golf ball, I would be mad not to try the Srixon Z-Star. This golf ball looks like it would perform fantastically for most golfers who want the benefits of the spin and feel of tour golf balls
