  1. Heavily marketed, full premium price, and the most-complained-about flagship in the community threads; inconsistent performance and poor durability.

    Flagged 19 October 2026
  2. The marketing-push flagship that underdelivers for its price. Golfers in The Hackers Paradise worst-premium-ball thread single it out as one of the most disappointing premium balls, and Bogeylicious rates it below both the Pro V1 and the Chrome Soft.

    Flagged 19 October 2026
  3. You pay full flagship money for a ball whose practical on-course benefit over the Maxfli Tour or Kirkland Signature is marginal for most golfers, and TaylorMade's own promotion pushes the heaviest marketing in the category with fastest-ever claims. Value-minded outlets keep steering buyers to those alternatives instead.

A big reason why Tour pros and amateurs elect to play TP5 is because of how soft it is and how well it behaves around the greens. TP5 is the third-highest-spinning golf ball in the entire test (6,100rpm) from the 40-yard pitch shot, and that's good enough for the silver medal in the four- and five-piece category. Also, TP5 emerged from our robot test as being very impressive for approach play, producing good distance (156.3 yards), the third steepest descent angle (45.3°), the second-highest backspin (4,823), and fastest ball speeds (109mph). However, none of that was good enough to earn the TP5 an award because its carry distance consistency wasn't strong enough.

The TaylorMade 2026 TP5 is going to be a ball that will seriously appeal to a broad range of golfers this year. Any performance and production glitches seem to have been rectified, and you’ll likely see your golf, like mine, reap the rewards. By cleaning up the imperfections in the paint and enlarging the core, TaylorMade has created a ball that launches high, spins low off the driver, while maintaining solid control around the greens.

The 2026 TaylorMade TP5 earns a Quality Score of 91 and a Ball Lab Quality Award. Its quality control is the standout: all 36 balls passed inspection with zero defects and a perfect good ball rate. Compression symmetry is excellent with an IBCR median of 1.0, matching the best in the database. Compression consistency grades out at B- and a delta of 9.0 points leaves a little more variation than you’d ideally want at this price.

In testing, both TP5 and TP5x excelled, making them an outstanding choice for golfers seeking top performance from tee to green. They also come in a range of attractive and effective alignment options, with the TP5 Pix a favourite of Tommy Fleetwood and the TP5 stripe another option for those who want more clarity on their putts.

You have the new TP5, which feels great, but just faster. And I think that's really what's unique about this product. You're still going to see some pretty darn good green side reactions. There's that check. Yeah, there it is. Oh, but it's let it slow down, too. You could hear it grab.

And if that decision is leading you toward a premium-level tour ball, then we would be surprised if you weren’t curious about the industry’s only five-layer models, particularly as they retail at a much more reasonable price point than the competition.

I mean, it's if you ever thought you were giving up distance by having to play a spinnier golf ball or softer golf ball, that is now no longer the case with this new TP5.

If you have the swing speed to accommodate the TP5, it will give you terrific Tour-level performance, but with slightly less speed and distance off the tee compared to the TP5x.

The TP5 is a 5-piece ball that is TaylorMade's softest, highest spinning ball. TaylorMade claims longer carry and fueled by a soft cast urethane cover, its increased greenside spin provides control and precision where it matters most: Closest to the pin.

Now, for me personally, with what I'm looking for out of a premium golf ball, this has interested me ever so slightly because I do enjoy playing the Prov1 when people gift them to me, and I would be really tempted to pick up a sleeve of the TP5 and have a go with them out on the golf course, because it does really interest me just how good that performance was all the way through the bag

At first glance, the TP5 Pix golf ball simply looks like a cool design, that looks fun whenever it’s spinning onto the green from a chip shot, or as it rolls off your putter, but the design is cleverly used to also be an alignment aid as well.

It competes really well on speed and spin and feel and all of those things, but there are a couple of nuances that maybe the Tailor-Made golf ball has had some criticism or detractors about certain characteristics of the performance. And that's maybe a little bit more down to the aerodynamics and the consistency of the golf ball in flight.
