Naturally, I was eager to see how the new Callaway Chrome Tour X compared to my current ball and if it could instantly be considered one of the best golf balls on the market. To do this, I put it to the test on a Foresight Sports GC3 launch monitor in the Golf Monthly Performance Lab, where we film all of the videos for the Golf Monthly Reviews YouTube channel .Read G

This is where the Chrome Tour comes in. Callaway is calling this the "gold standard" of the new lineup, and it's the ball that's designed to do everything well. It's for the player who wants a great combination of distance, a consistent and penetrating ball flight and excellent control around the greens. It's not the absolute lowest spinning ball in the family, and it's not the highest spinning. It's right in the middle. If you're a low-to-mid handicap player and you're not looking to sacrifice any one area of performance, the Chrome Tour is probably your best bet. It gives that great ball speed from the new mantle, but with a more balanced, mid-spin profile that's going to offer a little more workability and control than the Chrome Soft. It's the workhorse of the family.Read S Skratch Skratch · 331K subscribers · Jun 2025
If you like the softer feel or you want the soft feel off putter, Chrome Tour is the way to go. 7,000 spin as expected. Really curious to see the next one. Callaway when it comes to like triple diamond branding is all about lower spin.Watch A
Chrome Tour is the natural starting point for players looking at Callaway’s premium lineup. Its profile combines low long-game spin with high short-game spin and a medium feel, creating a balanced option for golfers who want speed without giving up control. It sits between the higher-spin Chrome Tour X and the more penetrating Triple Diamond, making it a strong fit for competitive golfers who do not need to push their ball flight or spin significantly in either direction.Read G GolfWRX GolfWRX · 31.1K subscribers · Jan 2026

TL;DR: I enjoyed the increase in distance and spin with the new Chrome Tour Ball. Consistency is key, and I saw a lot of that in my short time playing it. I’m excited to see what it will do when I get my iron game dialed in and I really believe this ball is taking everything to the next level. I’m pumped to be playing with more distance and more speed in the bag and I’m excited to keep playing and updating with my thoughts throughout the year.Read G Golf Ball Addict Golf Ball Addict · 29K subscribers · Jan 2026

The average male amateur swings the driver near 94 mph, per TrackMan, which lands in the Chrome Tour's 90-to-105 mph window, so the Chrome Tour fits more average golfers than any other Callaway tour ball. If greenside spin isn't yet your scoring edge, the softer 3-piece Chrome Soft (~77) at $54.99 covers the same speeds with an easier feel, and the hybrid-cover ERC Soft (~60) at $39.99 trades some wedge bite for straighter, cheaper distance.Read A Australian Golf Digest Australian Golf Digest · 28.8K subscribers · Feb 2026

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Callaway launches its next generation of Chrome series golf balls (Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X and Chrome Soft) with a distinctive upgrade in a stronger, stiffer mantle layer designed to boost initial ball speed throughout all three models in the line. In MyGolfSpy’s 2025 robot test it was the fastest ball overall at 168 mph ball speed and about 15 yards longer off the driver than the Supersoft. The trade: it needs real speed to compress, so most amateurs under 100 mph lose carry with it.Read G Golfweek Golfweek · 10.9K subscribers · Jan 2026

So, consistently faster ball speed, not just on one shot, but you're basically raising your floor now. It feels pretty consistent across the face as well. Good. Good. That was the best one. Nice. Yeah. Well done. And again, that's splitting fairways. That's still running. Yep. That is a very well struck shot.Watch G

Although the construction and cover do help to make this feel softer than it may seem from the numbers in my opinion. The Callaway Super Soft is one of Callaway's most popular balls and sits towards the budget end of their range. It's a two-piece construction which includes a soft core and an ionr cover instead of a urethane cover, which as a general rule is more durable, but produces less spin. The compression of the ball is around the 40 mark, so less than half that of the Chrome TX.Watch T

The Callaway Chrome Tour is a premium four-piece ball with excellent performance, outstanding feel, and tour level control. At 88 to 91 compression, it's accessible for moderate swing speeds, but may be too firm for very slow swings.
