The Keychron Q5 Max positions itself as a premium mechanical keyboard, earning a score of 83/100. What stands out is its ability to serve users who want a sleek white aesthetic and wireless functionality in a full-size keyboard without giving up typing feel or build quality. The solid aluminum case and double gasket-mounted design, as noted by rtings.com, contribute to a softer, springy typing experience that many users appreciate. With long battery life and gaming-ready wireless performance, it suits those who need a keyboard that holds up under heavy use. It does come with trade-offs: a 96% layout that requires adaptation and a weight that may put off some users.Read N
If you want a keyboard this size with a reasonably low asking price, as well as a pretty good feature set, keep on watching this review of the Q5. The biggest selling point of the Q5 is definitely the 1800 layout. Compared to the Q1, with a 75% layout, or the Q2 with a 65% layout. It's essentially a full-size keyboard, just without the nav key cluster. Beyond that, it has pretty much the same feature set as other Q series keyboards, including a hot-swappable PCB, screw-in stabilizer, Gateron switches, a full CNC aluminum case, as well as a double gasket design.Watch T
The gap between spec and feel is exactly why the Rtings mechanical keyboard test bench exists at all — as of mid-2026 it names the Keychron Q5 Max its top overall pick specifically for “premium aluminum case construction and excellent typing quality,” qualities no spec sheet captures on its own.Read G
The typing experience is where the Q5 Max truly shines. The double gasket design provides a noticeable amount of flex and cushioning, making for a comfortable and enjoyable typing experience, even during long sessions. The pre-installed Gatron Banana switches offer a tactile bump and a satisfying sound without being too loud or distracting. Of course, being a custom keyboard, you can easily swap out the switches to your preferred type. One of the standout features of the Q5 Max is its wireless connectivity. The 2.4 GHz connection offers a stable and responsive experience, virtually indistinguishable from a wire connection. The 1,000Hz polling rate ensures that every keystroke is registered instantly, which is crucial for gaming and fast-paced typing.Watch G

I got a q5 max and it started malfunctioning within 8 months. While the keyboard is heavy and feels quality, clearly they qc us not great. I got runaround a bit and was eventually refunded but it took some persistence. Ultimately I got something simpler and cheaper after. I cannot pay 250$ for a keyboard that will just break after 6 months. Given the runaround in returning, I get the impression these issues are not uncommon. I really liked so much about the keyboard. But cannot justify the price point. If I'm paying 250$ for a keyboard, that better last me a decade. Not 10 months.Read thread P
