Editors’ Note : The iPhone 17 packs many of the same features you’ll get on Apple’s pricier Pro phones, and brings improvements to the camera, battery and display. It’s a solid all-around device for most people who want something reliable and capable without breaking the bank. For that reason, the iPhone 17 has received a CNET Editors’ Choice Award. With IP68 water resistance, MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, and satellite connectivity for SOS and Find My, the iPhone 17 ticks all the expected boxes for a modern flagship. And while its 3,692mAh battery isn't the biggest, it still has the far more expensive Air beat. It also matches the Pros in charging speed with both wired PD3.2 and 25W wireless charging support.Read P
The iPhone 17 proves that you do not need a “Pro” label to get a true flagship experience. It delivers exceptional battery life, display quality, and camera performance, all while staying accessible in price. Sure, Apple could have done better with its AI integration and USB speeds, but in everyday use, this phone easily shines where it matters most.Read G
The iPhone 17 Pro delivers Apple’s most capable camera system yet alongside genuinely impressive thermal management improvements. However, the promise of all-day battery life gets hampered by iOS 26’s aesthetic-first design choices that prioritize visual flair over power efficiency. Weight typically isn't a key consideration when buying a new phone, but it's hard not to be delighted by the balance the iPhone Air strikes. You get a big screen phone that’s easier to use for extended periods of time, and lighter in your pockets. In a way, the iPhone Air reminds me of the iPhone mini with a twist. Instead of a smaller flagship phone, you get a lighter one.Read U
So, you have far more brightness. You've got the promotion. The cameras have been upgraded. The selfie camera has been upgraded. And the form factor is maybe the optimal one for battery life is supposedly better.Watch M
If you're still on the fence about upgrading from an older phone to one of the iPhone 17 Pro models, it's potentially worth it. The thermal changes make a huge difference, Apple's claims about scratch resistance seem to be true, and battery life will be night and day. If you already have an iPhone 17 Pro, let us know what you think of it in the comments below.Read M
My ultra-simple summary for the iPhone 17 would be, hey, it got ProMotion and a better selfie camera, and the rest is mostly the same. So the design is mostly unchanged, other than the new colors. Same screen sizes, same dimensions, same camera bump, same buttons, and camera control, which they barely talked about. But there's a new A19 chip inside, which we expected.Watch W
The iPhone 17 Pro's camera system looks set for one of its most significant upgrades in recent years. According to MacRumors and PhoneArena , all three rear cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro are expected to feature 48MP sensors, including an upgraded telephoto lens that would replace the current 12-megapixel telephoto camera.Read M
The best thing about the iPhone Air is actually how much it seems to have freed Apple up to make the Pro phones even more pro. (slow dramatic techno music) (slow dramatic techno music continues) (slow dramatic techno music fading) Have you noticed that? These new Pro phones are thicker than last year, more room inside for bigger batteries, and a vapor chamber, and a bigger camera.Watch G
The standard iPhone 17 is an unofficial success story of this year’s lineup. For the first time in years, the base model is not a “lite” version of the Pro; it is a high-end flagship in its own right. As a result, the internet community seems to agree that iPhone 17 is the phone “most people should get”.Read M

I just I I'll do whatever. Like, I just want the best one for me. I hear that. But you want the best purchase and you still like higher refresh rate and you still want Mag Safe. Yeah.Watch S
The iPhone 17 generally offers better durability than the iPhone 16. Apple refined the glass structure and ion-exchange process to create deeper compression layers, helping it stand up to impacts a bit better. This means the iPhone 17 screen is tougher, but remember, glass is still glass.Read J

As usual, if you want to use a phone to shoot videos and photos, you’ll probably want to go for the Pro or Pro Max models. These chunky, heavier top-spec models have three bigger camera sensors (including a 4x telephoto), faster USB access, and more serious video recording capabilities.Read H

I've got the best tips and tricks to show you just how pro it is. Let's go. So, just like the iPhone 17 Pro models, this normal iPhone 17 has had a solid camera upgrade, especially the front camera which now has some really cool tricks.Watch R

The display has been extremely durable. The glass is much more durable as far as scratches go, and if I turn the display off, you'll see there's not a single scratch, whether that's a light scratch, just a micro scratch, or anything else. Everything is just dust on the display, and there's no scratches whatsoever. I did show that I dropped one on a rock, and it actually held up pretty well.Watch M
It's iPhone launch day, and MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera is here to tell you why the iPhone 17 is the best iPhone that Apple has to offer this year. Dan has been using the iPhone 17 for the last week, and he has some thoughts on feature set and value.Read F

I ask because I have a 17 I got in January and it's been a great phone, and being the 18 is only having small improvements I wonder if people should just buy the 17 when the price drops a little bit because it only has one more gig of ram.Read G
The iPhone 17 may be the lowest-tier iPhone model of this series, but it packs improvements that bring it closer than ever to the Pro models. The most notable is that Apple has finally given the base iPhone a high refresh rate promotion screen, something that was way overdue. Apple also has done away with a 128 gig storage option. It starts at 256 here, which is another welcome change.Watch R
The iPhone 17 feels like the biggest upgrade given to the base model in years. With improved cameras, a bigger, better display, boosted battery life and an effective price cut, it’s hard to find fault with this year’s offering.Read Z
But honestly, this is by far the best base iPhone ever. And if you're thinking of upgrading your iPhone this year, forget the Pro and the Air. This is the one to get. And I've got six reasons as to why that is.Watch D David Lewis Article
The more I go through the specs of the iPhone 17, the more impressed I am by it. But that’s not to say that there aren’t differences that may be worth considering as you ponder which phone should get your cash this year.Read T
This is the best iPhone. Not the Pro, not the Pro Max, this guy, which I'm recording with the selfie camera right now. And in fact, I'm going to record this entire review on the iPhone 17, as you can see here. But then you're thinking, "Hang on, how's he recording this if he's got the 17 in his hand?" Well, that's because this is the iPhone Air, which has the exact same main camera as the 17, minuWatch S

The new iPhone 17 lineup has been released and I have to say this is one of the best upgrades in years and I'm actually very excited. But it is also now very difficult to choose the right iPhone model because there are so many differences and value propositions.Watch M
The iPhone 17 is, by a wide margin, the best of Apple’s new handsets in terms of dollar-to-features. If you have an iPhone 13 or older, like my mother, then the new 17 is the perfect choice.Read M
Well, it's actually not that simple because the new iPhone 17 is the most compelling base model iPhone ever made. But the 17 Pro's exclusive features are turning out to be really good. So, I've put together a list of 10 realworld differences that you're going to experience on a daily basis if you choose to upgrade. So, let's get started.Watch R
Bigger sensors mean better photos, especially in low light. Yes, it's huge. Yes, it's expensive. But if you're using this as your primary camera, the results speak for themselves.Read M
And look, same resolution on paper, but these are not the same camera sensors. The stabilization is different. The 17E uses standard optical image stabilization. The lens elements move. The 17 uses sensor shift stabilization. The sensor itself physically moves. That's more precise, it compensates across more axes of motion and it makes a real difference in low light and when you're shooting handheld video.Watch P
The Air may exhibit more wow factor, and the Pro models have more advanced camera systems, but the iPhone 17 is our Editors' Choice winner and the best iPhone for most people.Read N
I do believe that this is probably the best iPhone most people can put under their tree this holiday season. Let me talk to you about why. So, I went with the mist green color. It doesn't come with a charger in the box, just a USBC to USBC cable. At least that cable is braided for the iPhone 17. But the deal is is that, you know, the boxes are smaller now. So, that's something there.Watch B
The iPhone 17 Pro looks very nice in person, the "plateau" is actually very good, and the new material makes it very comfortable to hold without a case.Read N
The iPhone 17 simply feels like a tool made for human beings. Let's just be real. This phone just feels really good in the hand. It feels um essentially like uh you it was just designed perfectly to have a nice weight. You could feel it in your pocket, but not too heavy. Uh good size where you can reach things. Kind of a universal size I think a lot of people can handle without it feeling too big.Watch D
For most people, the answer will be unequivocally yes. This is the best iPhone for almost everyone, and there are few reasons not to buy it.Read N
So, if that's something that you really value a lot, you're outdoors a lot, you know, reflections, bright lights, this is still going to be the better option display, but it's so minuscule, it's such a little thing that basically the iPhone 17 has been to me the better value pick this year. Just because you're getting the same experience, basically.Watch R r/AppleWhatShouldIBuy u/Zukoo777 · owner
Otherwise, for its price and its features, nothing beats iPhone 17. It is new, it has the latest chip and features and it is priced right.Read N
But when we're talking about hand ergonomics and feel in hand, I prefer the 17 for sure in terms of just the weight and kind of the standard 6.3 size. It's that sweet spot between not too small, not too large. It's a really good size. For people used to a Max though, this phone can feel pretty small.Watch M
The iPhone 17 offers solid performance and a strong zoom that rivals high‑end cameras, making it the best overall choice for most users.Read T
There's no doubt that the iPhone 17 has to be one of the most popular iPhones ever to exist not just in India but also globally and that is pretty evident from the fact that people are buying it by the dozens and it was talked out at many places and the popularity is welld deserved if you ask me because there are actually very good upgrades across the board with the iPhone 17.Watch P
The Camera Control button feels better, though, and requires less of a deep press than before. This is a good change.Read M
Every year I tell myself I want the smaller phone, and every year I end up with the largest Pro Max model, but this time around the iPhone 17 6.3 in display has been absolutely perfect. It feels great in the hands. It's light, but it's not too light. big enough for watching movies and getting some work done if you need to on your phone, but it's not overwhelmingly huge like the Pro Max.Watch Z

Uh last year it was 6.1, so a slight increase, but in my opinion, I think this is the perfect overall size and form factor. It just feels familiar and comfortable. Now, I was using them both side by side and truly could not tell a difference. Also, because of the variable refresh rate being able to go anywhere from, you know, up to 120-Hz all the way down to 1 Hz, that means the 17 now has always-on display, which I personally enjoy using uh because I can simply glance at my phone to check for notifications instead of picking it up and tapping the screen.Watch C
You know, yes, they are better on the 17. I'm mostly talking about the little everyday things. This isn't just any black colorway. It's like the one of the best black colorways I've seen on an iPhone so far. Also, the Pro models this year don't have the black colorway. So, this is almost becoming like an exclusive colorway for the iPhone 17 lineup. And look, here's the thing about this year's black. It's got this really subtle depth to it that changes in different lighting conditions.Watch A
Try to find something bad with the iPhone 17, and you really can't. And if you're the type of person that hasn't upgraded since the iPhone 11 because the iPhone is the same every single year, this one is actually different. And if you're looking at the whole iPhone 17 lineup, let me break it down for you really quickly.Watch A
This phone delivers exactly what is promised. The design, the display, the pro camera, the chip, it's all fantastic. Battery life, solid daily performance. Seriously, this phone is amazing, and it's very comfortable in hand. The 17 Pro Max is, well, very big. It's a bit heavy, and it might just not suit your tiny little hands.Watch J
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is fantastic. Truly, even as an Android user, I didn't really feel the need to switch off. And up until only very recently, this is the phone that I'd been dailying since it launched. Apple did a lot here that really made what felt like a fashion statement into something that actually brought real powerful utility.Watch N
And the iPhone 17 is the phone that killed it. See, here's the thing that nobody at Apple will ever say out loud. The iPhone 17 is the single biggest threat that the Pro lineup has ever faced. And I'd argue it's the exact reason that Apple held back the base iPhone for so many years.Watch R
This phone nails the basics so well and then goes a step further that there's honestly very little to complain about. For the past few years, iPhone launches have been about chasing something new. New camera tricks, new materials, new buzzwords, and every year the conversation turns into what Apple didn't do. Well, this year it feels a little bit different.Watch M
I'll tell you right off the bat, yes, it is. And you've probably seen rumors about the upcoming iPhone's 18 series in September, and iPhone 18, the direct successor to this iPhone 17, is not coming out. It's rumored to come out in March. And I think that's a pretty good call for There's many reasons to it, but the main reason is iPhone 17 doesn't need a successor right away.Watch D
Today, we're talking about the iPhone 17, and I think this is probably the iPhone that's going to make the most sense for the majority of people this year. It feels a lot like using the iPhone Pro models, but without that extra Pro pricing. And I've been using the iPhone 17 as my main phone.Watch T
I know a lot of you are still considering picking this up maybe because honestly this phone feels like a total steal from Apple this year. It's incredibly interesting how much they packed into the base model.Watch T
It can drop all the way down to 1 Hz to save battery and ramp up to 120 Hz when you're swiping. It makes the base model finally feel like a Pro model. It's buttery smooth. Design-wise, it's pretty similar to the iPhone 16.Watch T
It makes the base model feel like a pro model. It's fast, it's buttery smooth. Combine that with the thinner bezels and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, it's just incredibly immersive. It's the premium feel that standard iPhone users have been dreaming of for years. And yeah, it's finally a reality.Watch T
It really is that good. All right, let's talk design and display, because this is where the biggest leap happened. Side by side with older base models, the difference is night and day. Design-wise, yeah, it looks pretty similar to the iPhone 16. We still have the action button and the camera control button they introduced last year, which I actually still find really handy.Watch N
This is what happens when Apple stops messing up. We end up getting a killer phone that in many ways feels like a pro, whether it's the great display, the solid performance, or even the new cameras. Last year, I hated the iPhone 16. A lot of AI slop around, the action button that it's worthless, but I finally think they woke up.Watch C
It's just a much smoother visual experience and that paired with the iOS 26 liquid glass aesthetic I am definitely a fan of. Now, where I disagree with the majority public opinion is I can go back to a 60 Hz display.Watch E
6 months later, I can say this pretty confidently, the base iPhone 17 is the iPhone that most people should buy. Not the Pro, not the Pro Max, this is the one. Because once the hype wears off, what matters is simple. Does it still feel like a great phone every single day? And 6 months in, the answer is absolutely yes.Watch O
I've been using the iPhone 17 for the past 6 months now and upgrading from the iPhone XR, this was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. The main reason that I bought this phone was to make better YouTube videos and to upgrade to a more future-proof device.Watch M
Switching to the iPhone 17 was night and day in terms of battery life. I was able to almost double the amount of real-world use on my phone before the battery died. So, after 4 weeks of using the iPhone 17 for work, casual pictures, gaming, and more, I can confidently say that this thing is about as close to a perfect phone we'll get. >> This phone is fast enough, bright enough, and capable enough for 90% of what I do daily. Straight away, what pulled me into the iPhone 17 was the display.Watch J
The standard iPhone 17 is truly remarkable. I've used this guy since launch, and this sage green speed demon compact beast has been one of my favorite phones I have ever used. And it has ruined the concept of pro devices to me.Watch O
This phone has surprised me in so many ways that I honestly didn't anticipate when I first unboxed it. The way it feels in daily use, the little features that quietly make life easier, and just the overall experience has honestly exceeded my expectations. This is not a here's all the specs and numbers kind of video. This is what 3 months of real daily use actually feels like.Watch O
And after using the iPhone 17 for the past 8 months, there are 10 things I genuinely love about it. So, let's start with the one that still surprises me. I knew promotion would be nice. I didn't expect it to change how the phone feels long-term, but it really does. It's not dramatic, it's just fluid.Watch

The iPhone 17 still can’t take great zoom shots, and the heftier iPhone 17 Pro Max is still the way to go if you want the best possible battery life. Those without a deep Apple allegiance may even want to consider the Google Pixel 10, which has a superior zoom camera and will work with all your existing MagSafe stuff. But if you’re in the market for a new Apple handset, the iPhone 17 isn’t just gRead M
They say it's three times more resistant to scratches, but to be fair, I'm pretty sure the random particles in my pocket will still find a way. But also, this is like the easiest to read that an iPhone display has ever been, even in this super bright room where you can kind of tell that my older 16 is struggling.Watch W
However, one area where phones like the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S25 have an edge over the iPhone 17 is zoom. Both of those phones have a third telephoto camera that can zoom up to 5X or 3X, respectively. That's a big deal. You'll probably want to zoom in to capture your kid accepting their diploma, or your favorite musician on stage at a concert, or that cute bird sitting in a tree.Read M
The things that are better than I expected, but also the things that have made me feel pretty misled. Starting with the 17, which I've got here in sage. This feels pretty identical to the unboxing experience last year. Same USBC cable with the same SIM ejector. You got a bunch of papers which now include an energy score. So, thank you EU, I guess. And the phone.Watch F
The first Redditor whose reaction I read was pretty negative, saying, “Still buggy, still laggy, still overly animated, still terrible keyboard.” Well, that’s not good. But the more I checked reactions, the more positives I found. Several said that the improved battery life which iOS 26.3 had delivered continued here.Read M
On the face of it, the iPhone 17 Pros are really strange. Like, these phones have 12 GB of RAM, 50% more than the previous Pro iPhones, which is a big deal, but there was almost zero mention of it at all. Why? The biggest improvement to the new A19 Pro chip is neural accelerators. But Apple didn't demo a single tangible use case.Watch E
On the iPhone 17 Pro, it took a slightly longer time to get as warm, but it did eventually become so hot I felt the need to warn people if I were to hand the device off. I found the aluminum parts of the handset to be the hottest, which makes sense both scientifically and in the way our skin perceives temperatures.Read B

In short, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air are durable, yes. But normal wear and tear on iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models could cause small abrasions to show. These issues won’t change how the phone operates or is used, but putting a case on the Pro models seems like the only way to avoid any chipping.Read S
And we don't care about the fact that Apple includes almost no accessories with their phones anymore. just a simple USB 2 type-C to type-C and a piece of paper that says you no longer need a SIM card or a, you know, USBC to 3 and 1/2 mm adapter or any of the things that Apple used to include in the box. But hey, you're going to like it anyway because these things look flipping sick.Watch R r/iphone17 u/Extension_Clue_143 · owner
Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase of the iPhone 17. I don’t think it’s perfect, but I can say that it is one of the phones with the best value right now. My next plan is to try and immerse myself in the Apple ecosystem and see if it suits my personal taste.Read S
The only hesitation is that from the front, you can kind of see the green, which to me is a little distracting, but I don't think most people will care. In the box, are keeping things simple. We've got a cable and literally just one slip of paper now saying you no longer need a physical SIM. Let's see how long this cable is. A month of real-world use strips away keynote gloss. What’s left is a collection of devices that are generally excellent, yet human in their quirks — from quicker charging relief to edges that scuff, cameras that collect dust, and batteries that age into routine.Read Z zollotech zollotech · 2.2M subscribers · May 2026
Now the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max design have been quite controversial when it was first shown, but now that it's been more than half a year, it seems to be that most people think it's fine, but it's not the best iPhone design ever. I still prefer the iPhone 5, 5S, and iPhone 4 designs as far as my favorite designs. However, Apple does have a way of making the previous generation iPhones look oWatch T
The dual camera on the back is good, but the lack of a telephoto option keeps it from being great. The iPhone 17 still feels compact for a modern phone, and while not quite as featherlight as the iPhone Air , it isn’t exactly heavy.Read G
Aluminum is not as hard as those other materials, making dents and scratches a concern over time. In fact, early adopters have already found the camera island readily picks up scratches, even without being subjected to very harsh treatment. Bits of dust and battle damage on Mario are most distinct on the iPhone 17 than the iPhone 15 Pro, for example, but aside from the resolution, I don’t notice much of a difference between the iPhone 16 and 17.Read G
Of course, the iPhone 17 is the newer upgraded device, but after testing these two phones, we did find a few reasons why you might actually want to get the iPhone 16 instead. Weighing these phones in hand, the iPhone 17 is slightly larger and heavier, but it's supposedly more durable with higher tier reinforced glass.Watch C
Potentially missing special discounts: Although the iPhone rarely goes on sale anywhere, carriers often offer limited-time promotions if you trade in an old phone, add a new line, or switch to their service.Read B
However, there is a compromise with the two-tone look. A lot of people, myself included, are not the biggest fan of this. However, it does look best on silver. But, you know, it looks great. It actually has a noticeable change from the other iPhones, and the vapor chamber inside performs very well. Like the Pro Max, the Pro model now features a 48MP telephoto lens. (And like the Pro Max, the Pro's zooms didn't quite measure up to rival phones' close ups in our testing.Read M
Battery is where things get a little strange for me. I feel like I lose a lot of battery really early in the day these days. I'll go from like 100% down to 70% from like a 7 a.m. wake up time to like noon. And I don't really know why because I don't really use my phone a lot during that time period.Watch A

It always feels compromised. Like you can tell I'm not using one of the good lenses. There's less dynamic range, more noise, and it's usually not as sharp.Watch P
At the bottom of the iPhone 17, there's a USB-C port that still only supports USB 2.0 data speeds, but surprisingly, Apple has improved the charging speeds by a lot.Read S
We're just missing the telephoto lens. There's a little bit of an inferior type-C port on it. But aside from those two aspects, we still have the camera control. We still have the action button. Apple is kind of notorious for making incremental updates year to year, so depending on what phone you're coming from, you might be thinking to yourself that the iPhone 17 may be a bit overhyped. This is especially true by just taking a cursory look at the outside of the phone as it looks to be a near clone of the iPhone 16, which doesn't exactly scream big upgrade upon first glance.Watch R r/apple u/ControlCAD · owner

We got mixed reviews about this phone. Talking about the design, which looks like an iPhone 16, and some good changes that might sway consumers to finally upgrade to the latest iPhone. I want to start with what's pretty much exactly the same between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e. Apple didn't cheap out on the performance for the 17e. Both phones run the same A19 processor, so everyday app usage feels basically identical. Having the same chip also probably plays a role in these phones having similar battery lives.Watch M

Apple moved away from titanium to a unibody aluminum. A lot of people called it a downgrade, and yeah, holding it next to a 16 Pro, the titanium feels a bit denser. This has been a really really really interesting phone and I've got some reasons why I think it's a great phone but it might not be for everybody. However, I wouldn't have minded if they simply trimmed down the bezel, they kept the 6.1-in screen, giving us a smaller body, as I'm a sucker for a compact phone. The design of the new Pro models in the 17 series is absolute blunder. It isn't appealing at all. Everything looks odd and out of place. Moreover, the placement of Apple Logo itself looks like a design failure. Spoiler alert, worse than other iPhones that I've owned. I want to start with the durability because this surprised me the most. Apple went back to aluminum for their higher-end iPhones this year, and that decision is a double-edged sword. On one hand, aluminum makes a lot of sense. It is thermally perfect. What's new with the iPhone 17: Apple made a surprising number of year-over-year changes, as you can see in our iPhone 17 vs. iPhone 16 comparison.
