If you’re all-in on Google’s services but haven’t yet picked up a smart speaker, the Home Speaker makes a lot of sense. It slots seamlessly into the Google Home ecosystem, with an intelligent voice assistant that understands context and sounds more natural than either Siri or Alexa. Audio quality is also impressive for a speaker of this size.Read D
Google just dropped a brand new home speaker powered by Gemini, and this might be the moment that smart speakers finally stop feeling dumb. Because this isn't just about better sound or a new design. It's about your home finally understanding you like a real assistant should. Not commands, not scripts, just conversation. So, let's break it down.Watch S
Google’s new standalone smart speaker marks a bold return to form, ditching the “Nest” branding for the AI-driven Google Home Speaker. Built around the powerful Gemini model, this device features a dedicated NPU for lightning-fast local processing and serves as a future-proof smart home hub with Thread 1.4 and Matter support.Read C
Just landed in the office this morning, and uh super excited to get this thing unboxed. Obviously, the review portion of this will take a little bit of time to just use it and see what's all going on with this speaker. Uh but, we'd really like to get at least set up, and see how it sounds, and uh see how it looks on the table and stuff. So, without further ado, let's get in here. All right.Watch E
Somehow, it's been almost nine months since Google first revealed its latest smart speaker , the boringly-named Google Home Speaker. I don't understand why it took the company so long to get it to market, as there's nothing that particularly changes the game here hardware-wise.Read S
I think this is a good thing because it actually adds a degree of flexibility that wasn't there with the original product. Though, it is a little bit thinner, so you don't want to keep anything sharp near it, obviously.Watch H
You can coax a bit more bass response out of the Google Home Speaker, and while certainly better than anything you'll get out of a laptop (as a point of reference), it's not going to hit hard enough to rattle your walls (or annoy your neighbors).Read G
Sleek, sustainable, and smart like never before, the Google Home speaker isn't just a gadget. It's your new home companion. Experience 360° sound, intelligent conversations, and the power of Gemini for home. Your smart home just got a whole lot smarter. Hold up. I don't want to waste what's left.Watch T
Google says the device uses custom processing tuned for Gemini’s advanced AI, enabling “faster, more fluid” interactions, the kind of latency you need for a smart speaker to feel conversational instead of transactional.Read T
Smarter, sharper, and more human than ever.Watch A
It looks right at home among other Google and Nest devices with its intricate woven fabric exterior, and I especially like some of the bolder color options it’s set to be made available in.Read A
Overall, I'm really impressed with the Google Home speaker. It's a great addition to the Google Home family and it's definitely worth checking out.Watch F
The new Google Home Speaker, which was first teased alongside Google's next-generation smart home devices at the end of last year , is now available for pre-order ahead of a June 25 launch.Read Y
The Google Home Speaker delivers great audio and offers easy access to a sophisticated AI model. Google could easily improve its smart home chops to make this the ideal household hub.Read G

The Home Speaker fits in seamlessly everywhere I tested it: bedside table, kitchen counter, or two paired under the TV. The soft green jade color blends in without being dull. My only disappointment is the lack of a color-matched cable, something both Apple’s HomePod Mini and Amazon’s Echo Dot Max offer.Read 9
I would have much preferred the same power plug-in method used by the Nest Mini, the Nest Hub, and others, but with USB-C as a connection into the body itself as I would choose the exact length of cable that IWatch A
I say all of this with the acknowledgement that this could be a foolish decision on my part. Google has already made two big swings at the smart home world, once with its original Google Home speakers, and again when it tried rebooting things under the Google Nest brand.Read T
I do want to point out though that the USB-C plug is hardwired into this new speaker, which, frankly, I don't like. Cables break. Cables fray. I've actually had a Google Home power cable on my first-gen speaker fray, an easy replacement since it wasn't hardwired. Kind of a weird choice here, in my opinion. With that said, the design of the new Google Home looks slick.Watch A
The hardware in the Google Home Speaker is quite good, but I do have some reservations about the way that Google’s Gemini AI – and especially its subscription layer – is integrated into Google’s new smart speaker.Read S
I do like the design.Watch E
Whether Gemini proves genuinely more useful than its rivals, rather than simply more articulate while failing to dim the correct lights, is the part that will matter.Read M
>> Do not upgrade your old Google Home speaker just because Google said the word Gemini and put it on the box. Because here is a awkward little twist. The original Google Home is also getting most Gemini for Home speakers. So, this is not one of those simple old bad new good stories.Watch T
I quite like it, but depending on where you place the device, its visibility is more likely to be affected than something at the top.Read T
Some owners praise how Gemini finally understands conversational questions smoothly and handles smart lighting and routines reliably, while others report problems like failed music recognition, missing features, and occasionally worse basic commands compared to the old assistant.Watch Z
Here's how the new Google Home Speaker has fared against the likes of my Apple HomePod Mini and Echo Dot Max so far.Read B
So, in some ways, the new Google Home speaker takes a small step backward on paper. Surprisingly though, it still sounds really good in everyday use.Watch A
While the Google Home Speaker is the easiest solution in this set of options, it also comes with some caveats.Read Y

Original article: July 9, 2026 (8:38 AM ET): To say that the new Google Home Speaker had a rocky start would be an understatement. It arrived several months after Google first previewed it at the Pixel 10 launch last year, was unboxed earlier than intended , and was even put up on clearance by a naive retail employee .Read G
This new speaker has no chance of stealing the Nest Audio’s pride of place in my small kitchen. It’s no surprise, considering the Google Home Speaker packs a single 58 mm driver, while the Nest Audio packs a 75 mm mid-woofer and a 19 mm tweeter.Read P

I tested the Google Home Speaker alongside the Amazon Echo Dot Max, and the sound quality felt very similar. Music was strikingly similar across both speakers, with the piano keys of “Dark Blue” by Jack's Mannequin coming through nicely and the softer tones of “Fast Car” easy to discern.Read P
So theoretically, the new Google Home speaker should work like it does in sci-fi movies. You can talk to it like a normal person. At least that's the promise. Google opened up current Google speakers to Gemini for Home in an early access program. Over 3.5 million households opted into this program and got to live with Gemini.Watch A
But, if you just want to jam out on some tunes while you work or clean, the Google Home Speaker will do the job. The sound is very clear across the spectrum — the midrange doesn't get muddy, as can happen with less expensive speakers (or even other speakers in this price range).Read T
A new Google Home speaker is here and it's powered by Gemini. Hey friends, I'm Tasia Custode and it's time to meet the allnew Google Home speaker with Gemini because things are going to look and act a little bit differently than you're used to.Watch Y
