Starting with what has worked in the Switch 2's favor, I would be remiss not to immediately mention the significantly more premium look and feel of the device compared to its predecessor. Nintendo sized up the Switch 2 a bit, giving it a larger display with a higher resolution and refresh rate, bigger Joy-Con controllers that are more comfortable in the hands, and a less toy-like feel overall.

This console might be slowly becoming my favorite of all time. As a busy father of 3 and someone who likes to go outdoors and exercise this system has blown my mind. Playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the go with graphics close enough to the PS5 is insanity, when I docked it for the first time and saw how much better games looked and ran it really surprised me unlike the Switch 1.

By that metric, it gets high marks. It's a well-made Switch successor with lots of little thoughtful touches and design improvements to make it feel like a more premium product. That means it's less toylike than the original Switch, which makes me that much more nervous about handing it off to my kids. But in many ways, it feels like the Switch has grown up.

It also runs beautifully on the Switch 2 — smooth performance, no lag, and great visuals that bring the world to life. Cons: The only real downside is the limited exploration area. It feels smaller than previous open-world titles, which slightly takes away from the sense of adventure.

I was more excited than anybody for the Nintendo Switch 2 to release. I mean, Nintendo had their biggest franchises lined up from the start. They had Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Zelda, Kirby, Drag Extra. How did that get in there? Last year was supposed to be the promised year. Like the one foretold in the prophecies handed down by Yamamauchi in 1859 straight to Doug Bowser's desk in 2026.

The Switch 2 is very much what it says on the box. It's a new Switch. It's bigger. It's more powerful. It supports HDR, 4K, DLSS, 120 FPS, VRR in handheld mode, and even has intriguing new mouse controls built in. But for all that, it's ultimately a bigger and better Switch. This isn't meant to be a criticism.

If there's one objectively good thing to say about the Switch 2 in comparison to the Switch 1, it's that its hardware upgrade across the board is just a noticeable improvement. I've just spent the last 12 hours playing every exclusive, every new feature, testing stuff out, popping off Joy-Cons and stuff, and I got to say that immediately, even after that first 12 hours, I kind of regret buying it. This thing just feels like it really lacks that Nintendo spark, that charm, that specialness that made the original Nintendo Switch so great.

Because for some reason Nintendo has come to the conclusion that people are very stupid so they need to be extremely explicit about the nature of the software on their new shiny Nintendo Switch 2. So when you get a Switch 1 game and that game has an upgrade on the eShop (paid or free) it gets a completely unnecessary "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" moniker.

However, the absence of a truly new title that fully utilizes the Switch 2’s upgraded hardware has been a notable shortcoming. Several first-party releases, such as Pikmin Odyssey and Splatoon 4, were originally developed for the original Switch, leading to concerns about a lack of innovation.

This is Stardew Valley on the Nintendo Switch 2. I've been looking forward to this one for a long time. I actually am a fan of Stardew Valley. I think it's a pretty cool game. And yes, we are playing on the Switch 2. Here you go. There is proof.

Battery swelling — rare but ongoing reports of the rear panel separating from the chassis due to lithium-ion cell expansion; treated as a safety issue requiring immediate contact with Nintendo support.

Anyways, when the Nintendo Switch 2 came out, I was pretty disappointed in it. Some of my favorite titles got delayed and one of them just ended up being canceled entirely. Borderlands 4.

Now, I bought the Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day, and I'm not sure if it was the best decision. Now, I'm not going to lie, despite being upset that the Switch 2 was missing some key things that I was hoping for before it even got released, I still couldn't wait to get my hands on it.

Gaming Consumer Rights calls the price of its latest handheld and Switch 2 games unreasonable. It also believes that Nintendo uses deceptive marketing practices when promoting Game-Key Cards.

The 3DS offers a massive, complete library of beloved games and a distinct identity, something many players feel the Switch 2 hasn’t fully established yet. The comparison underscores why buyer’s remorse exists at all: when value is obvious, people spend without hesitation; when it isn’t, even a brand-new Nintendo console can feel like a questionable purchase.

Rather than buying one of three bundles from the retailer, you'll get a 16-character code that can be redeemed for either of the three titles in the Switch 2 eShop. Redeeming your code is when you have to make the choice, and since you're only allowed one of the three, you should pick wisely.

After years of leaks and speculation the Switch 2 is finally here… for some people. The days of system launches being a fun event to look forward to are a quaint memory from the “before times.” Gone are the battalions of booth babes; nowadays you’re lucky if they shackle even a single woman to a piece of hardware.

Over the last few months, the Switch 2 has honestly became a go-to handheld. And after considering all the crazy price hikes the gaming industry has seen lately, it's come pretty close to the Steam Deck for me. And I really love the Steam Deck. There's so many great things that we can say about the Switch 2 and its ecosystem of games.
