The Logitech MX Master 4 is another high quality productivity mouse that offers a seemingly superior build to its predecessor with three major differences. Overall, this isn’t a drastically different mouse and I don’t find its main new feature to be the most compelling addition, but this is still one of the finest productivity mouses on the market, with lots of great customizable features.

The MX Master 4 refines an already-classic formula: haptic feedback, the Actions Ring, a durable new chassis that fixes the 3S's sticky-coating problem, and even quieter clicks. Same 70-day battery, same 8,000 DPI glass-tracking sensor, same no-onboard-memory and no-dongle-storage quirks.

The 4 is a massive improvement for me, personally. I am scrolling horizontally through Excel spreadsheets all day, and I can get 3 times as far with one flick on the 4 than I can with the 3S. With more of it exposed, it is also easier to find an easy point to grab onto regardless of your hand position. On the 3S it is recessed slightly, in its own little area. But being able to slide directly from

The smooth operation on my desk, combined with the near-silent clicks and free-spinning magnetic aluminum scroll wheel, feels as satisfying as it ever did. You simply can’t expect any real upgrades from this mouse. Even with haptics and software features, the MX Master 4 will still be a companion that’s so thick and heavy it will rarely, if ever, leave your desk.

I like my mx master 4. I see why people are mad, since it might be the first time that the new mouse isn't objectively better in all regards, than the one it replaces. My 3s still feels more premium to me due to its rubberized coating, and I wish the 4 was as lght as the 3s. I don't mind any of these enough to make a lot of noise about it though, which is why you never heard me complain about it.

It's a little more expensive than it's predecessor, and I don't mind paying extra for a great product, but unfortunately, Logitech has lost my trust as a consumer. Their treatment of older products that they no longer wish to officially support makes me hesitant to buy a product that relies on their software to function, and unfortunately, the MX Master 4 could fall into that category.

Frequently asked questions

It ranks #1 (S tier) on our consolidated ergonomic mice board, drawn from 93 cited sources across 83 outlets.

Higher price point compared to many competitors.

Anyone who works at a desk all day and wants one mouse they will not have to think about again. It is the only S tier product on our ergonomic mice board, praised across multiple reviewers for ergonomics, performance and a premium build. Its one drawback is cost, so if you want to spend less, the Logitech Lift in B tier is the better value pick. If you want a trackball rather than a sculpted mouse, pick the Logitech MX Ergo S Advanced instead.

Longer than most. Reviewers credit it with a low failure rate and a premium build, and they single out its software longevity, which means the firmware and settings app are expected to stay supported for years. That matters because the older Logitech MX Master 3 dropped to D tier on our board mainly because its firmware support is winding down.

The Logitech MX Master 4. It sits in S tier and the Logitech MX Master 3 sits in D tier, and the gap is not about shape, which is similar. Reviewers say the older model lacks recent refinements and its firmware support is winding down, while costing about the same for similar performance. Buy the Logitech MX Master 3 only if it is offered at a steep discount and you do not care about long-term software support.

Not the best choice. It is a large mouse designed for a full palm grip, and a small hand has to stretch to reach the thumb controls. On our board the Logitech Lift is the product reviewers call small-hand friendly, and it sits in B tier. Try the Logitech MX Master 4 in a shop first if your hands are small.

No. It is a sculpted mouse: the body is shaped so the hand rests at a slight tilt with the thumb on a rest, but the grip is the same as a normal mouse. A vertical mouse turns the hand almost sideways. If that is what you need, the vertical mice on our board are the Logitech Lift and the Logitech MX Vertical.
