Some may point out a slight price bump in the US, but the Xtreme 5’s cost feels entirely justified and well-balanced against the competition. If you want a speaker to get the party moving, with uncompromising, striking sound, this is easily my top recommendation.Read W
The JBL Xtreme 5 can also put on a bit of a show thanks to new colourful, customisable edge lighting, which emits from two strips placed on the front of the speaker.Read

The JBL Xtreme 5 earns a 2.7 overall MDAQS score , which is a fair result for a portable speaker. Based on evaluations from a group of more than 200 listeners, it scores 3.1 for Timbre, 2.7 for Distortion, and 1.7 for Immersiveness. The Xtreme 5 uses a stereo driver layout, but its compact enclosure limits left-to-right separation, which likely contributes to the lower Immersiveness score.Read F
This is a REAL UPGRADE!Watch B
JBL promises around 10 percent deeper bass and an overall higher volume than its predecessor. This is thanks to a new acoustic architecture consisting of two tweeters and a subwoofer with increased output power. In mains operation, the woofer delivers 90 watts RMS and the tweeters 20 watts RMS each, while in battery operation they deliver 60 and 15 watts RMS respectively.Read S
First up, there's new integrated ambient lighting strips. It gives the Xtreme 5 a little more personality than previous models without going full party speaker mode, which I appreciate. It's got just enough glow to make it feel modern, but if you hate the idea of lights on your speaker, you can just turn them off. Second thing to note, it's bigger.Watch T
The JBL Xtreme 5 delivers massive sound with AI Boost, next-gen Auracast support, insane battery life, phenomenal build quality, lossless audio capabilities, and cool ambient lighting. While the footprint might be heavy for some, it is portable enough. The price tag on this baby might be an issue for some users, though, but you are getting your money’s worth.Read B
The second positive point, of course, is this new design, which is absolutely gorgeous. The speaker is bigger, okay? You saw that in the comparison video. We got these two LED strips at the top and bottom, which, despite being RGB lights, look really nice and elegant, okay? This is very important because other speakers will want to add lights, and it won't necessarily look good. But this design isWatch B
Professional testers who've used the JBL Xtreme 5 have praised the upgrades it brings over previous models. In particular, the speaker's penchant for bass sounds was picked out, but just as praise-worthy were its quality-of-life tools: its swappable battery, IP68 protection, and range of audio inputs, for example.Read G
The JBL Xtreme 5 is very impressive for its size, but maybe you still need something a little bigger.Watch S
The Xtreme 5 adds ambient lighting, which gives it a more eye-catching look and a bit more personality. The Boombox 4 takes a more practical approach, with a dedicated Bass Boost button that cycles between Deep Bass and Punchy Bass modes, and it’s compatible with the same battery used by the JBL PartyBox 520 .Read G
overall, this is a speaker that you can't go wrong with.Watch T
Now with 10% deeper bass and louder sound than the previous gen, your most-loved songs hit harder than ever with JBL Xtreme 5. Its new acoustic design made up of dual tweeters, a subwoofer, and enhanced power output delivers powerful sound, while AI Sound Boost minimizes distortion at high volumes.Read M
The Extreme 5 really stands out from the rest. Before we eagerly dive into the sound, let's take a closer look at the new addition . The design has changed again, and quite significantly. The Extreme 5 not only looks more massive, it actually is. At 2.9 kg, it is about 800 g heavier than its predecessor. Protection against dust and water has also improved.Watch H
JBL is updating two of its better-known portable Bluetooth speakers for 2026, with the new Xtreme 5 and Go 5 bringing a mix of audio tweaks, durability features, and a few convenience upgrades that look designed for everyday use rather than spec-sheet bragging rights.Read A
Um So yes, I think JBL had a really really good release on the JBL Extreme 5. When is a good release not a good thing? Um, yeah. So, what do you probably know about the JBL Extreme 5? We don't need to go into all the details other than we'll do the it's a maximum bass test. So, maxing out the bass in the with the custom EQ in the app. With the JBL portable app for both of them.Watch T
Of course, with the added heft of this year's model, JBL is very much pitching it as having boosted and improved sound, and while I haven't used the Xtreme 4 personally, the sound profile offered by the Xtreme 5 is indeed punchy and aggressive.Read Y
I definitely love the strap of this new JBL Xtreme 5. Kind of looks more mature. The JBL Xtreme 5 features an easy removable battery just like the one you see on the JBL Xtreme 4 and the JBL Xtreme 5 has an advertised battery life of 28 hours. >> That is huge. The colors you're going to see this speaker on are black, blue, camo finishes.Watch J r/JBL u/Emotional-Comfort-81 · owner
In my opinion, the JBL XTREME 5 looks much better than the XTREME 4; it looks more proportionate and elegant. I always thought the XTREME 4 was too wide in the middle and disproportionate.Read thread Y
I really love the design of this JBL Xtreme 5. I think it's really good and for the fact that it has some light display, I really love that about this new JBL Xtreme 5. It's kind of giving the vibe that the JBL speakers are now looking like silo speakers. I don't know, but you know, silo speakers, no matter how small it is, you always get lights on them.Watch T
I loved the Xtreme 4 back when it was released in 2024, and I love the Xtreme 5 in 2026. Though pricey, these are the two boombox-meets-portable party speakers I'd invest in for myself.Read M
If I had to choose an Xtreme for the first time, I would choose model 5 due to its greater usability.Watch T
I'm glad to see they brought back some bass to Xtreme line up . this time it seems to better than all models before it with bass and quality . tell me if I'm wrong 😳 .Watch G
The sound is also warm and clear and very loud without actually distorting that much at all. >> Just like before, we also have access to the JBL's simple but excellent app providing both a few pre-programmed sound profiles as well as a neat seven-band equalizer. New for the Xtreme 5 is also two LED strips on the top and bottom of the speaker.Watch I Instagram Instagram post
Built for powerful sound and made to go wherever the job (or weekend) takes you, the JBL Xtreme 5 is the ultimate prize.View post P
The build quality is also pretty amazing. You're now getting IP68 water and dust resistance, meaning rain, dust, or poolside splashes won't be a problem. Next up is one of the newest and best additions to the JBL Xtreme 5, and that is built-in lighting. And honestly, it actually adds a really nice vibe to the speaker, especially at night.Watch L
It sounds well bigger more extreme than this default and my using EQ. So it has deeper bass and nicer sound than my choosing. The sound a little bit boxy I would say. So really really a huge improvement over the old Xtreme Let's try this track here. And listen to the bass.Watch A
Then the speaker will be more powerful than when running on battery power.Watch M
Right here is a brand new JBL Xtreme 5 and man oh man they brought the heat with this speaker. Talk about more power outlet, brand new lights, Orcas support, Bluetooth 6.0, IP68 water and dust resistant as well, USB type type C charging, bigger sound and bigger bass and even more bass when you plug it up to the wall.Watch W
Both feel premium and outdoor-ready, but JBL's drop-resistant construction, stable base, and more practical carrying system make it the stronger travel companion. So, if you value rugged protection and easier portability, the JBL Xtreme 5 has the advantage. Moving on to sound performance, the JBL Xtreme 5 is aimed at listeners who want powerful output without sacrificing clarity and control.Watch G
Um mids are probably similar, but uh I mean, the speaker is uh JBL Xtreme 5 is louder by like I would say four 4 and 1/2 decibels louder. It just sounds better. It's it's a little bit big little bit bigger, little bit heavier. It looks better, it has lights, uh but it costs probably four times more than Tribit Lava.Watch G
So, the speaker looks very good. I'm going to do comparison videos with one, two, three, maybe four speakers very soon.Watch

And well, I think this light feature is pointless. Now from JBL’s app you can go in and choose from a few different lighting modes, and you can also customize this light feature if you want. However I think this light feature is point cause its not as dynamic as other light features on other speakers, and for some reason it doesn’t change color all that much.Read S

On the flip side, if you’re a wanderer looking for a lightweight pal, 3 kilos might be too much. Also, true audiophiles may miss high-res audio codec support. But for reliable, loud, and stylish outdoor sound—Xtreme 5 is hard to beat.Read S

Pros Capable of both huge fun and surprising nuance Built like a tank Useful extra features Cons No aptX Needs more 'in yer face' finishes Will probably make you want to own the big one.Read A
I would love if it had an aux-in, but it doesn't have. And here is the battery that you can remove. Of course, you have 24 hours of playing time or you can up the battery with another four by using the Play Boost feature in the app. And now, let's turn this on. >> It has the same sound and it automatically goes to pairing mode.Watch E
Way too overpriced. You can buy the jbl partybox 110 for 300 or the boombox 3 for 300, so paying 400 for this is absurd.Watch O
So, if you value maximum toughness and party style, the Xtreme 5 is the stronger pick. But, if you value easier portability, the Xtreme 4 still makes a lot of sense. Moving on to connectivity and party features, both speakers are built for group listening rather than quiet background music.Watch I Instagram Instagram post
JBL Xtreme 5. Was always a bold name that seemed only to apply to its crazy price!View post A

And while you do get, I would say definitely a much better built speaker, but also really more like a refresh look with the light show on the front. As with the Go 5, it's not the best light show out there, and it does have more functionality on the speaker. It also has a better, I would say, frame rate, but also like refreshing synchronization with your speaker playing music. But it's still not tWatch M
Bottom line: The Xtreme 5 is good, but I'd choose the BB4 for its fuller sound. And that's what we currently get for the same price. The BB4 is relatively lightweight, loud, and will shake the furniture in a room more. It also has a nicer soundstage and better stereo. Overall, the Xtreme 5 has impressive, powerful bass for its size.Watch A
But, I mean, not a bad box, so I guess that's all right. All right, when we open it up, we see the same packaging as well. A thin foam around the speaker and two cardboard cutouts to protect the sides. You can grab this handle and you can pull it out of the box or you can just flip it upside and down and dump it. Whatever is easiest for you.Watch T
On one hand, it's arguably the best party speaker JBL has ever built. On the other, it's a design choice that might just drive you crazy.Watch

So, in my opinion, it has better inputs and better interface than the JBL Extreme 5. Now, let's talk about the battery. While the JBL Extreme 5 has a battery life of around 24 hours of playing time, the Sony ULT7 has a battery life of 30 hours of playing time. So, even the battery it is >> better on the Sony. But, it doesn't matter what are the features if the sound it is not good.Watch A
It doesn't have a main socket. It's only got a USB socket. In other words, it'll only take DC anyway. So, either JBL are having a laugh or they just don't care about the portables. They're just there into the the more expensive hi-fi speakers. And they just think portable buyers are there to be milked. But, we are not cows. And you cannot pull the other one, mate. Um right, so here's the problem.Watch A
You won't get more than 2.1 decibels out of the speaker by plugging a charger in, even if it's the JBL adapter.
