Hoka Mach 6

Tested the Hoka Mach 6 and 7 in a head to head today! I think a lot of people aren’t going to consider the Mach line because there are a lot of new shiny foams out there are pretty reasonable prices and honestly, I get it. That being said the Mach 7 is likely going to end up on some of my “top” lists of 2026. So far it’s been a super fun option for daily and moderate runs.

The Mach 6 is a fun, fast, versatile trainer that can take you from 0 to 100 real quick. But before we geek out on the tech specs, I want to give some insight on the brand. HOKA are known for their high cushioned shoes as a very young brand. As of this moment, HOKA can't vote. They can't even drive. And like most teenagers, they're kind of funky looking, but somehow they're trendy and influential.

The big upgrade in the Mach 6 is the super critical foam midsole. This is a single-layer, high-rebound foam that is much more energetic than previous versions. It doesn't have a carbon plate, but it's so snappy that you won't miss one. The early-stage meta-rocker ensures a quick transition from heel to toe, making it feel like the shoe is pushing you forward. The cushioning here is responsive.

The Mach 6 is a total workhorse and puts a spring in your step whether you're walking or running. Compared to the Mach 5, this version has lighter and more resilient foam that provides a massive pop. So, it allows me to crank up the pace easily, even when my legs feel heavy and tired.

My poor Achilles did appreciate, however, this gusseted padding in their heel counter. Uh, from what I've been seeing, this seems to be a design choice that Hoka has been carrying into many of their other shoes. Uh, it makes me excited to try out other models in their lineup.

The Hoka Mach 6 is the best the Hoka Mach series has ever been. The Mach 6 and its bouncy super critical EVA midsole can do daily miles, speed sessions, and long runs while providing very good durability and fantastic impact protection.

If you’re looking for a second shoe specifically for faster sessions, the Mach 6 is a fantastic choice. If you want a shoe to train and race a full marathon, though, I’d steer you towards something more cushioned—like the Hoka Clifton.

I feel it will be an excellent and versatile general trainer with more durability than past iterations. It also looks very classy in black with white midsoles if you’re not fond of the mermaid color trend.

That being said the Mach 7 is likely going to end up on some of my “top” lists of 2026. So far it’s been a super fun option for daily and moderate runs. It also picks up great for shorter faster work.

At its core, it has the same features the Believe in the Run team loved in the 6: the creel jacquard upper, the supercritical foam midsole, and rubber outsole. So why spend the extra dollars if the Mach 6 is now going on sale? Well, I’ll give you a few reasons to stew over.

This is my full review on the Hoka Mach 6. Really quickly, I'd like to go over a couple disclaimers. I'm 6'1, I wear a size 12 US men's. I am 205 lb. As for my strike pattern, I typically strike on the midfoot to heel portion of the shoe. My zone 2 pace is around a an 11 minute per mile pace. My weekly mileage is around 30 to 40 miles per week.
