The R1280DB is often praised for its price, but reviewers repeatedly note that its build quality is flimsy and the drivers are prone to failure after a few years. Its firmware support is minimal, so any issues cannot be fixed remotely.

The R1280DB has become the default powered speaker recommendation across this site and across vinyl communities online for a direct reason: the built-in phono preamp eliminates one purchasing decision for anyone starting out. Most powered speakers at this price require a turntable with its own preamp or a separate phono stage between the deck and the speaker. The R1280DB handles both scenarios from a single rear input.Read F
The R1280DB does not include a subwoofer output port. If you want to connect an external subwoofer, you need the R1280DBs, which includes a dedicated sub-out with automatic crossover detection. This is one of the key hardware differences between the two models.Read

The Edifier R1280DB speakers are a bargain hunter’s dream - they do almost everything you could need at an unquestionably reasonable price. As active speakers, they can simplify your turntable setup, replacing the need for an external amplifier - that’s a little more cash saved. They carry Bluetooth, so you can play your digital catalogue as easily as your analogue.Read T TNC Channel TNC Channel · 292K subscribers · Mar 2021
Overall, I rate this speaker model in the 2 million VND price range as having a very balanced sound with a very good bass line, thick treble, and tight high frequencies. The midrange is n't the strongest point of the 12 80db. Of course, in this price range, there are strengths and weaknesses, but these weaknesses are completely acceptable. This is a very worthwhile speaker to buy in this segmentWatch 7

They’re simple to use, durable enough for the setting, and deliver a sound profile that keeps you motivated. The Edifier R1280DB speakers deliver a warm, balanced sound signature that works well for music, movies, and gaming. They aren’t designed to replace high-end studio monitors, but for a compact desk setup or living room audio upgrade, the Edifier R1280DB Bluetooth bookshelf speakers punch well above their price. Edifier has continued its tradition of producing audio equipment with high-quality sound but at an affordable price with the new R1280DB Bluetooth speakers. They produce a good overall soundstage with decent bass without window-rattling rumble, and cover the mids and the upper end of the registry with a relatively crisp sound.Read M

Final thought: The R1280DB aren't perfect. But they're honest, versatile, and genuinely enjoyable to live with. And in a world of overhyped, overpriced audio gear, that's worth a lot.Read N
Now, Edifier also sells a slightly cheaper version of this speaker that doesn't have Bluetooth functionality, and it's called the R1280T. But, the price difference isn't that bad, and it's kind of a nice perk to have Bluetooth. At the time of recording, the Bluetooth version I have is $150 USD, and the non-Bluetooth version is $120. In either case, these are the speakers I'd recommend to most people looking to unlock their vinyl experience, since they really do offer the most flexibility and balanced audio in this price rangeWatch I
I purchased these a week ago & I am very impressed with the sound for the price. Bluetooth is excellent so far, I have yet to notice a sound drop or pause.Watch B

The Edifier R1280DB is a pair of powered speakers designed primarily for use with desktop PCs. However, they also lend themselves well to providing an easy audio boost for a TV or a one-stop Hi-Fi solution. With analogue and digital inputs, Bluetooth connectivity and a remote control, they’re easy to set up and reasonably versatile too. After unboxing and testing the Edifier R1280DB bookshelf speakers yesterday, I’m genuinely floored. For a system under $100, the build quality and ease of use are exceptional. The 42W output easily fills a standard room, but it’s the balanced sound profile that really stands out. Honestly, these are already a top contender for my favorite product of 2026Watch D

I own both the 1280 and the 1700BT . You cant get any more presence with the 1280, with the 1700BT you can dial it down if you want to. What people are calling more volume is clearity. Love the crisp top end with the 1700BT. The slanted front also means less internal reflections. Vocals thru the 1700BT are right where they should be in the mix. With the 1280s they are a bit more buried.Watch D
Me personally, I find R1280T a bit clearer sounding and, if You do not need Bluetooth and digital inputs, I would recomennd it as it is more affordable. Both offer grat value though so choose the one that fits Your need more. What do You think about the sound differences between them? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!Watch D
The 1280db has slightly deeper bass but the 1700bt is SO much crisper with a much larger sound stage. The 1700bt is better overall, especially for movies as it's much easier to hear dialogue with the clear separation of sounds.Watch L

These speakers are really bad. Muddy sound, very dead sounding.Read thread D
R1700BT sounds more detailed and natural than R1280DB especially from the mid range to high end (all though it is a bit to bright as well, but You can tame it a bit with tone controls). R1700BT is also better looking and better build than R1280DB.Watch V
