That’s because the Studio Display is a great monitor. It looks good on a desk, and despite the fact it’s ​ “ only” an IPS display, the colours and brightness are consistent across the entire panel (according to my calibration device). Competition is only now starting to catch up, with similar panels from ASUS and Samsung hitting the market this year.

So, having both of these new ones here to show you is super exciting. Now, the previous Studio Display did have a webcam, but those super expensive Pro Display XDRs did not. Now, something else that is interesting is they're now no longer selling the Pro Display XDRs on Apple's website. So, currently, if you do want to buy one of these displays, this Studio XDR is the closest replacement.

To me, the monitor is totally worth it. I tried lower resolution, lower PPI 4k monitors, but I am spoiled. The text usually looks big and fugly. I've become accustomed to the RETINA look. I need my 200+PPI. And brightness. Other monitors make me feel like I'm being gaslighted (original meaning) they are so dark. 600 nits, now we're talking.

I am going to do a daisy-chain to my existing 34" LG ULTRAWIDE Display that is also equipped with TUNDERBOLT® HDMI and lots of USB-C. You have nailed it for me on the NANO feature and eye strains.

I have the 2022 studio display and love it. That said, I am thinking of upgrading my 2020 Mac Mini, and it did cross my mind to go all in and get an upgraded monitor at the same time. Not sure I can afford it, but partly based on this review, I think if I did upgrade, it would have to be to the XDR version, for the reasons mentioned.

Otherwise, there's really no reason for me to continue to use the Pro Display. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm not getting rid of it. It's amazing, but it's not going to be my main monitor because as I mentioned before you're getting a lot of new features and a lot of upgrades that you just didn't have on the not only the older studio display, but of course the Pro Display.

Great review - I love the studio display which, for me, replaced an 8 year old iMac 27 (along with a MacBook Pro M3 Pro 1T). Killed two birds with one stone. Yes, it's pricey, but the total cost even with the middle tier M3 Pro MacBook Pro, is only 15% or so more than a maxed out iMac 27 would have been a couple of years ago.

It's my favorite monitor ever, and I think, and I know this isn't always a popular opinion, I think it's the best monitor you can get for your Mac. Yes, I know it's expensive, and on paper, there are other versions of other monitors which seem to have better specs, but none of them are built as well as this, and I still think this has the best 5K panel on the market for Apple users.

You’d have a hard time spotting the difference between the new Studio Display XDR and the regular Studio Display. They are virtually identical and almost exactly the same as the original 2022 Studio Display. It’s a 27-inch display, with relatively thick black bezels and a silver aluminum body that’s about an inch thick.

I just got one a couple days ago, and I've never been happier with this purchase. Coming from a 34" LG Ultrawide display at 109ppi with horrible speakers, the Studio Display is a major upgrade for me, especially the speakers! I'm an Apple power user anyway so the ecosystem benefits me.

I did get a Mac Studio Display and am very happy with it! All of the options: nano-textured glass and height adjustment. It’s very nice! Am happy with it and am using my Mac Studio more now than I did before it arrived as I was using our 4k TV as the monitor while I was waiting on it.

But just to justify my purchase, I'm going to share three reasons why I think I probably made the right choice in getting this monitor. The first reason is the color accuracy of the screen. This screen is P3 wide color gamut, 500 nits of brightness, and the colors just look right. When I export a video, I know it's going to look the same on your screen as it did on mine.

I am upgrading my 2015 imac and my 2018 15" macbook pro for the 14" macbook pro M5 for photo editing. i was torn between the Apple studio display and the Pro art. i did not even think of the mac mini set up, but with the laptop i can take it when i travel and then just connect it to the studio display while at home and still use my mouse and keyboard if needed.

From your comparison, it does well appear that the new studio display is an improvement in the viewing experience and in microphone and sound quality, compared to the LG, although how many people really use their monitors speakers for music? I sure don't. Video chats for sure. My issue here is that we appear to be stuck at a 27" form factor and 5K for 6 years.

The answer to that question is complicated, because it really will depend on what your priorities are, what work you do with your display, and if you have the coin to spend, but I can say that after testing, Apple mostly delivers on all its promises with this monitor, and there isn’t anything else quite like it on the market.

And honestly, when it did launch, it was kind of outdated right out of the box. So, the current display is an LCD display and it has a 60 Hz refresh rate. And honestly, back then a lot of monitors could beat that easily, let alone today in 2026. And yeah, the current display actually looks really good despite those specs. And it's a really good purchase if you're all in on the Apple ecosystem.

I don't understand comparing a 4k 32" VA monitor with a 5k 28" IPS monitor - they are really different screens. Might as well compare the Apple studio display against a 24" 240Hz VA gaming monitor. The studio display is for people that want a lot of quality: more pixels, more color, more nits - premium everything.

There's definitely some pros and cons to both of these monitors. The Apple Studio Display is really this all-in-one hub for your Mac. So, it's got a good webcam built into it. It's got pretty good speakers and decent microphone built in as well. So, if you do a lot of video calling, you can totally get by with using this.

The original studio display came out several years ago, and it's actually using an 11-year old panel at this point. A great 5K display. The new studio display standard version was announced, and it uses the same exact panel, but it's got some under the hood improvements.

Does yours have the coil whine buzzing in the lower left corner? I already went through 3 different units and they all have the same issue. Unacceptable for a display this expensive.

The 600 nits of peak brightness offered by the Studio Display is perfect for most people. You really don’t need anything brighter than that with non-HDR content.

However, the Studio Display has two improvements to its panel versus the one found in the 27 inch iMac from 2019 that I previously owned: They increased the brightness by 100 nits and added true tone, which automatically adjusts the display’s color temperature based on your ambient lighting.
