Coming from an LG 27" 4k IPS LED, the Studio Display is sooooo much better and feels incredibly premium. I was hesitating at first, because it's a pricey screen, but using it now for a full workday it's totally worth it. Definitely get the standard glass, because the glare is not that bad. And the speakers are something you'd get from an iMac, maybe a tad bit better.Watch M
It is an awesome display and at a technical level it's actually better in every single way than the Pro Display XDR. It gets much brighter. It'll do 1,000 nits full screen in regular SDR mode. The Pro Display could only do 500. And it'll do up to 2,000 nits peak brightness in HDR versus the Pro Display's 1,600. And the mini LED backlight is giving us way more contrast control.Watch M Mac Article
That’s because the Studio Display is a great monitor. It looks good on a desk, and despite the fact it’s “ only” an IPS display, the colours and brightness are consistent across the entire panel (according to my calibration device). Competition is only now starting to catch up, with similar panels from ASUS and Samsung hitting the market this year.Read I
So, having both of these new ones here to show you is super exciting. Now, the previous Studio Display did have a webcam, but those super expensive Pro Display XDRs did not. Now, something else that is interesting is they're now no longer selling the Pro Display XDRs on Apple's website. So, currently, if you do want to buy one of these displays, this Studio XDR is the closest replacement.Watch 6
To me, the monitor is totally worth it. I tried lower resolution, lower PPI 4k monitors, but I am spoiled. The text usually looks big and fugly. I've become accustomed to the RETINA look. I need my 200+PPI. And brightness. Other monitors make me feel like I'm being gaslighted (original meaning) they are so dark. 600 nits, now we're talking.Watch Z

You have convinced me to get one of those and my choice display will be the Studio Display with ALL the whistles and bells minus the WallMount. I am going to do a daisy-chain to my existing 34" LG ULTRAWIDE Display that is also equipped with TUNDERBOLT® HDMI and lots of USB-C. You have nailed it for me on the NANO feature and eye strains.Watch A

I have the 2022 studio display and love it. That said, I am thinking of upgrading my 2020 Mac Mini, and it did cross my mind to go all in and get an upgraded monitor at the same time. Not sure I can afford it, but partly based on this review, I think if I did upgrade, it would have to be to the XDR version, for the reasons mentioned.Watch M
I have the studio display with me, and this thing is in my dreams. I swear I close my eyes and I think about it every now and then. And now that it's right here staring at me, I still don't believe it's real. I've been staring at this box. I have pinned this multiple times on my vision board cuz I feel I would become unstoppable with this.Watch T TikTok TikTok post

Otherwise, there's really no reason for me to continue to use the Pro Display. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm not getting rid of it. It's amazing, but it's not going to be my main monitor because as I mentioned before you're getting a lot of new features and a lot of upgrades that you just didn't have on the not only the older studio display, but of course the Pro Display.Watch A
Great review - I love the studio display which, for me, replaced an 8 year old iMac 27 (along with a MacBook Pro M3 Pro 1T). Killed two birds with one stone. Yes, it's pricey, but the total cost even with the middle tier M3 Pro MacBook Pro, is only 15% or so more than a maxed out iMac 27 would have been a couple of years ago.Watch M
It's my favorite monitor ever, and I think, and I know this isn't always a popular opinion, I think it's the best monitor you can get for your Mac. Yes, I know it's expensive, and on paper, there are other versions of other monitors which seem to have better specs, but none of them are built as well as this, and I still think this has the best 5K panel on the market for Apple users.Watch M
You’d have a hard time spotting the difference between the new Studio Display XDR and the regular Studio Display. They are virtually identical and almost exactly the same as the original 2022 Studio Display. It’s a 27-inch display, with relatively thick black bezels and a silver aluminum body that’s about an inch thick.Read S
After using the Apple Studio Display for over 2 months, I was utterly wrong.Watch A
I just got one a couple days ago, and I've never been happier with this purchase. Coming from a 34" LG Ultrawide display at 109ppi with horrible speakers, the Studio Display is a major upgrade for me, especially the speakers! I'm an Apple power user anyway so the ecosystem benefits me.Watch T
Yes, it's insanely good.Watch S
I did get a Mac Studio Display and am very happy with it! All of the options: nano-textured glass and height adjustment. It’s very nice! Am happy with it and am using my Mac Studio more now than I did before it arrived as I was using our 4k TV as the monitor while I was waiting on it.Watch A

Apple continues to innovate and collaborate with the healthcare community on solutions to ultimately improve care for their patients. Studio Display XDR features a 12MP Center Stage camera that keeps users centered in the frame as they move.Read I
But just to justify my purchase, I'm going to share three reasons why I think I probably made the right choice in getting this monitor. The first reason is the color accuracy of the screen. This screen is P3 wide color gamut, 500 nits of brightness, and the colors just look right. When I export a video, I know it's going to look the same on your screen as it did on mine.Watch M
The Studio Display 2 and Studio Display XDR were introduced in March 2026, which means now is a good time to buy . Apple does not refresh its display lineup often, and the Studio Display went four years before getting a refresh in 2026.Read J

If you buy an Apple Studio Display, you can be confident that it will last a decade with good care. It may not be cutting edge technology, but it's still a 5k display with a built-in Thunderbolt Hub that can charge your Macbook.Watch T

“For the specs is overpriced 🤓☝️” said the people that have to wait like 10 seconds for their plasticky monitor to load macOS video signal at 4K or 2K which isn’t even native resolution. 😭😭😭 holy cope. I am upgrading my 2015 imac and my 2018 15" macbook pro for the 14" macbook pro M5 for photo editing. i was torn between the Apple studio display and the Pro art. i did not even think of the mac mini set up, but with the laptop i can take it when i travel and then just connect it to the studio display while at home and still use my mouse and keyboard if needed.Watch B
The design of the Apple Studio display is great. But who is it for at this price point? There are some benefits it has over other monitors if you are in the Apple ecosystem.Watch M
From your comparison, it does well appear that the new studio display is an improvement in the viewing experience and in microphone and sound quality, compared to the LG, although how many people really use their monitors speakers for music? I sure don't. Video chats for sure. My issue here is that we appear to be stuck at a 27" form factor and 5K for 6 years.Watch A
Both are incredibly cool devices and it boils down to the wealth of features on the M8 versus the superior quality of the Studio Display.Watch M
For browsing the web, checking email, watching YouTube, and streaming movies, the standard Studio Display does the job just fine. It also makes your office or desk look incredibly professional and stylish. Honestly, it might be the best investment in the world if you want everyone to know how professional you are and how great your taste is.Read A
But Apple fights back with higher brightness, better speakers, a built-in camera, and that signature Apple design.Watch T
This refresh is a big disappointment. Having purchased a Studio Display late last year, I was dreading that I was making a mistake and not waiting for the new Studio Display. I have no regrets now and am happy with what I bought when it came up on a sale! The XDR is way too expensive and at that price point there are lot of options.Watch T
Now that I have it, though, I realize that it's a lot more than just a 27-inch display. If we see it through the lens of an all-in-one extension to the Mac, it is undoubtedly a winner in a battle of none. Allow me to explain, but before diving deep into that statement, I'd like to point out another all-in-one solution: a disc cleaning manager.Watch T
Apple finally returned to the mainstream display market in 2022 with the original Studio Display , but for those of us already using the LG UltraFine 5K, it offered surprisingly little improvement beyond Apple’s industrial design and better speakers. In terms of raw capability, the experience was largely the same – a 27” 5k display.Read A
With lacking features for the high price and potentially new Apple monitors around the corner, is this display worth it?Watch T
But the Apple Studio Display is also very expensive, and even more so if you’d also like a properly adjustable stand or a non-glossy panel. Furthermore, if you want a second input to be able to display for another computer in addition to your primary Mac, it leaves you plugging and unplugging because it has only a single input.Read N
I'm both surprised but also disappointed.Watch P
The answer to that question is complicated, because it really will depend on what your priorities are, what work you do with your display, and if you have the coin to spend, but I can say that after testing, Apple mostly delivers on all its promises with this monitor, and there isn’t anything else quite like it on the market.Read T
And honestly, when it did launch, it was kind of outdated right out of the box. So, the current display is an LCD display and it has a 60 Hz refresh rate. And honestly, back then a lot of monitors could beat that easily, let alone today in 2026. And yeah, the current display actually looks really good despite those specs. And it's a really good purchase if you're all in on the Apple ecosystem.Watch M
I don't understand comparing a 4k 32" VA monitor with a 5k 28" IPS monitor - they are really different screens. Might as well compare the Apple studio display against a 24" 240Hz VA gaming monitor. The studio display is for people that want a lot of quality: more pixels, more color, more nits - premium everything.Watch A
If you're a designer, a video editor, or if you really just appreciate having the sharpest and most color accurate displays, then the Apple Studio Display is a really great option. But it does come with a couple of quirks and also a insanely high price tag.Watch W
The regular Studio Display is no slouch, though. You have to remember that I’m comparing them side-by-side, which will, of course, make any differences between the two panels even more evident. The fact that my XDR review unit also has the nano-texture display option gives it yet another unfair advantage.Read A
While features like Mini LED, 120Hz ProMotion, and 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness sound incredible on paper, my real-world testing led to a surprising conclusion.Watch S
Excellent video Quinn! You did a great job covering the highs and lows of a ‘weird’ product. This display would have made a lot more sense three (or more) years ago. I was expecting a NEW apple display in 2022 to fall somewhere between the iMac 27” and the Pro Display XDR. So this does feel weird.Watch A
There's definitely some pros and cons to both of these monitors. The Apple Studio Display is really this all-in-one hub for your Mac. So, it's got a good webcam built into it. It's got pretty good speakers and decent microphone built in as well. So, if you do a lot of video calling, you can totally get by with using this.Watch M

The original studio display came out several years ago, and it's actually using an 11-year old panel at this point. A great 5K display. The new studio display standard version was announced, and it uses the same exact panel, but it's got some under the hood improvements.Watch M
As a production display, the Studio Display is still expensive but looks affordable compared to the Apple Studio Display XDR. Buyers will enjoy its handsome design, good image quality, and impressive spatial audio, but you can save a lot of money by going with a non-Apple display.Read M
I feel like the studio display perfectly represents the battle between the two types of consumers we all generally boil down to, price buyers and value buyers. Price buyers typically care most about the bottom line.Watch M

The 2026 Studio Display is less of a "Version 2.0" and more of a "Version 1.2." It remains the best looking, most integrated monitor for the average Mac user, but the lack of ProMotion at this price point in 2026 is a bitter pill to swallow.Read T
Chunky bezels are a turnoff for me, but overall it’s true the display is in a class of its own in terms of resolution/pixel density and industrial design, is it worth the price? Not for me.Watch B
Does yours have the coil whine buzzing in the lower left corner? I already went through 3 different units and they all have the same issue. Unacceptable for a display this expensive.Watch I Instagram Instagram post

After a couple of years, burn-in became unmistakeable: bright vertical strips in the display corresponding to common positions of window edges, drop-shadows, and other usually-dark elements. At the same time, the centre of my screen gradually began to discolour, since it displayed content with bright backgrounds (like web pages) much more often than the edges of the display.Read 6
