Frequently asked questions
Asus ROG Xbox Ally X sits at #1 in the S tier of our consolidated board, ranked across independent research runs over 95 cited reviews, videos and discussions. The best Windows handheld on build, battery and a dual-vendor (Asus hardware, Microsoft software) support stack. Only Asus's uneven warranty reputation keeps it off the top spot.
Steam Deck OLED ranks #2 (S tier). The best firmware, OS-update and repair story in the category, with the cleanest multi-year ownership record and Wirecutter's top verdict. Nothing else here matches its software longevity.
Our research places Lenovo Legion Go S, GPD Win 3, GPD Win Max, Asus ROG Ally, GPD Win 5 in the bottom tiers (D/F). Lenovo Legion Go S: The SteamOS software story gives it real longevity, but widespread complaints about plasticky build and weak battery hold it down.
