I think this add on is necessary if you have the wyze lock. You will now be able to lock and unlock your door without your phone or a key. You can also add guest codes which I like that you can set access codes for 1 time use, temporary which it will have an end date and time or recurring which you can set which days and time that the code will work.

The Wyze Lock Bolt is a good choice if you want something inexpensive and useful and don’t care about smart home integration — or prefer a lock without it. It’s not sleek or stylish; it’s just a big hunk of black plastic (there’s also a satin nickel version).

I like that the Wyze lock is that it retrofit the deadbolt that I already had and kept the keyed portion on the outside of the lock as emergency backup to unlock and lock the door e.g. if I don’t have my phone on me, forget the passcode, or if the batteries die, though they should last about 6 months (depending on use).

The lock was everything I was looking for. My teenage daughter in the past has lost her home key twice and she was never able to use the front door, she needed to text us and we would open our garage remotely for her to get inside. I saw in the installation manual that you removed the thumb handle plate, but I didn't see anything protruding out the back of the Wyze Lock , that would go into the door frame area and turn the deadbolt mechanism.
