I like the Sonos setup more. It’s platform agnostic and sounds much better for home theater setup. It’s a true 5.1 surround setup (and simulated 7.1.4 setup) compared to a simulated 5.1 from HomePods (although the entire setup cost twice the price of HomePod Stereo). The W for Sonos era 100 are that they can be expanded upon in the future, work with wired and Bluetooth and are platform agnostic.

If you wanted to add a set of basic speakers that can tuck into a bookshelf without needing wiring, the Era 100 surrounds are a few clicks to add. The Era 300 adds Dolby spatial audio to the space, and suddenly you’re pushing into dedicated theater space. Add a Sub Mini and you’ve added a transformative amount of bass to the room. Not enough? The Sub 4 will wake the neighbors!

Budget-friendly with great audio quality, the Sonos Era 100 and 300 will be a welcome addition to your home sound system. However, the Era 100 is both perfect as a portable speaker, and in your home to listen to music while you go about your day. The Era 300 offers 360 surround sound and is compatible with Apple Spatial Audio.

But if I had to choose just one speaker for daily listening, it would definitely be the Sonos Era 100. It felt great to see an Indian YouTuber reviewing a brand like Sonos, which is often called the “Apple of the speaker world.” One thing I’d like to correct is that this speaker doesn’t support Google Assistant. It only has Alexa and Sonos’ own voice assistant.

The Era 100 work perfectly every time when I link to TV for listening to news/sports just by pressing the play/pause button (press, hold, listen for the beep). I don't have to crank up the Arc Ultra anymore with the Era 100 in the kitchen. Works equally as well in the reverse when playing music with the Era 100 over iPhone Airplay.

If you're looking to really pump music through a bigger room, though, you're better off looking at the Echo Studio or something like the Sonos Era 100. You can also pair two Echo Dot Max speakers together for stereo playback and increased volume, but I didn't get to test this so can't say how it'll perform in a larger space.

Available in black or white, the two speakers are virtually identical, with the Era 100 SL standing 183mm high, 120mm wide and 131mm deep. The Era 100 SL is fractionally lighter, though, as it omits the microphone and voice control features of the Era 100, which reduces the weight of the speaker by a few grams to 1.95kg.

The Era 100 SL is the opposite philosophy. It has no battery, no IP rating, no going outside. It's a small cylinder, 18 cm tall, 13 wide, 12 deep, with almost 360° of acoustic grill. So, the new Play lands right in the middle, not tiny, not massive, just balanced. Physically, the numbers tell part of the story. The Sonos Play weighs about 1.3 kg. That makes it roughly three times heavier than the Roam 2, but still about half the weight of the Move 2, which is probably the sweet spot Sonos was aiming for.

It stops a little short of being a true master of it all, lacking a bit of low-end power at higher volumes compared with Sonos’s similar Era 100 plugged-in speaker, which is also one-third cheaper. It's not the best for classical music. Here's why: 1. For classical you really need a playlist in order to accurately control what's playing, and the one connected with the app is just the secondary option. It's primarily meant to dictate what to play. Classical music is more specific, so I can't just tell Alexa to play Mozart's Symphony No. 40.

Biggest problem with sonos is that you cannot remotely control speakers (outside the wifi network). That is if you are not home to switch them off or to put music on for someone that struggles at home with the speakers. (I can control alarm zones, cameras, gates, aircons remotely but not sonos) .
