Buyers who want a Moccamaster-grade drip machine with a modern look. It is Serious Eats' current pick for best drip coffee maker and sits in A tier at rank 3 on our coffee makers board, with a die-cast aluminium body, minimal plastic in the brew path, a 5-year warranty and almost no electronics to fail. If you want the longest proven track record, the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select in S tier is the safer buy. If you want brew profiles and firmware features, the Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker is the other A tier option.
Long enough that Ratio backs it with a 5-year warranty, matching the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select. The machine is mostly metal with almost no electronics, which removes the failure points that kill most brewers. Our research recorded no cons for it. The one thing it lacks is the Moccamaster's decades of owner history, so a 20-year lifespan is expected rather than proven.
Series 2 addressed the carafe complaints that owners raised about the early units. That is the revision our research credits for the machine's current standing. Beyond the carafe, the formula is the same: a die-cast aluminium body, minimal plastic in the brew path and a simple control that leaves little to break.
Both carry a 5-year warranty and a repairable, low-electronics design, so choose on history and looks. The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select ranks first on our board and is the only S tier product because units are routinely still running after 10 to 20 years and parts are sold for nearly every component. The Ratio Six (Series 2) is the modern Moccamaster alternative and Serious Eats' top drip pick. If you want the proven heirloom, buy the Moccamaster. If you prefer the Ratio's design, you give up little.
Rinse the carafe and filter basket after every pot and wash them properly a few times a week. Descale every one to three months depending on water hardness: run a descaling solution through a brew cycle, then two or three cycles of plain water. Filtered water slows scale buildup. With so little plastic or electronics in the machine, regular descaling is the main maintenance it needs.
