It’s hard to find a better-looking coffee maker than the OXO Brew 9 Cup Coffee Maker. The machine is tall and slim, and looks modern enough that it can update your kitchen in an instant. While looks are important to me, functionality is even more critical, so a beautiful appliance that’s a piece of crap won’t spend much time on my countertop.

At about $217, this is my best-value pick, and it isn’t close. The microprocessor holds brew temperature where it should be, capacity runs from a single cup to a full nine, and the coffee lands in a thermal carafe. That’s the entire machine. One dial. Everything that would have added buttons, OXO left out.

Mine arrived yesterday and I love the looks and way the machine works however I just have issues with the taste and smell of the coffee. I’ve washed the plastic accessories multiple times with soap, ran water through it about 10 times and it still just has that taste to it. I know it’s only a day old but I figured washing the parts and running water would fix it.

Thoughtfully designed. Well executed. Coffee keeps better. Pours into the cup. Better. Cons: Tastes like rubber, plastic, weak, watered down java. Poorly designed pore spout. Taller by about 2 in.
