I recommend the Minelab Manticore metal detector over the XP Deus II metal detector because it gives the better overall fit for most UK buyers in this exact head-to-head. It does not make the XP Deus II metal detector a bad buy, because the runner-up still has a clear place when its strengths match your sites. But if I had to put one in the basket for the widest mix of UK detecting, I would choose the Minelab Manticore metal detector.

From what I've read, the Manticore will do a very good job detecting once you learn it. The Tiger Shark has a unique sound on targets . sounds very much like a duck quacking. It would make me laugh when I used it and was kind of endearing, yet I would still go out mostly with the deeper CZ or Excalibur, just because they were deeper detecting. These days I am mostly detecting salt water beaches.

Manticore is simply deeper by an inch or so versus Deus 2 and the Legend. If I use the Deus 2 13X11" coil, I will get similar results to the Manticore with 11" coil. If I put the 15X12" coil on the Manticore it wins in overall depth over the 13X11" coil on Deus 2.

Hated to give up the 800, I really loved that machine but the manticore is fantastic and I actually found it easier to navigate through its menu than the 800. There are a lot more things to navigate but it’s very intuitive.

This one really surprised me, I was convinced the Manticore stabiliser feature would mask small targets next to Iron, but my results were quite the opposite.

All I can say right now is WOW. Awesome. I was just testing different things gold rings earrings, necklaces and coins. And i can tell a Big difference. From my 800 and 900 that I also have. They are both forsale now.

I’ve noticed the Manticore shines in dry soil, but once the ground turns damp, the CTX seems to wake up, locking onto targets that the newer machine sometimes misses.

I know that the MANTICORE can do just about everything, including prospecting for gold, but I would be afraid to take it into the water, at the beach, because it is just so expensive. I'm thinking I should start off with the cheaper one first, and if I enjoy the hobby, then I will get the MANTICORE for gold prospecting.
