Why we like it: The Hisense U8QG boasts a max brightness of 5,000 nits. This means that you'll get a great picture even in harsh overhead lighting or bright sunlight. It's also backed up by a 165Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision IQ HDR support, and an IMAX Enhanced mode for streaming films and shows as their creators intended.Read T

The whole experience is tunable to your preferences, but I found it was much more vibrant compared to prior TVs I’ve tested out. Like my colleague Andrew Romero explained last year in regards to the Hisense U8N that precedes the U8QG, this panel makes a good argument to skip OLED and save a ton of money in the process.Read N
Now, personally, I do enjoy the overall sound of the U8QG a lot more because it just sounds wider. We're talking 4.1.2 Dolby Atmos. The speakers are physically on the sides of the TV, which kind of gives you almost a soundbar effect.Watch P
The U8QG is the latest in a long line of high-end Hisense TVs that wow us with their performance and the fantastic value they offer. It's incredibly bright (even more than last year's already blazing U8N), boasts wide and accurate colors, and has a built-in 4.1.2-channel spatial audio speaker system.Read C

The U8QG replaces last year’s U8N , offering more local dimming zones, up to 4000 nits of peak brightness, steps up the native refresh rate from 144 to 165 Hz, and even offers a 288 Hz mode at QHD.Read Q
Now, the winner is going to be the Highense U8QG. And I'll tell you why throughout this comparison. However, I want to point out a couple things that you should note. one, if you still have a UHG, clearly look at it. It's producing a beautiful picture still in 2025. Additionally, newer isn't always better for everyone.Watch P

Its weak spots are the usual Mini-LED challenges: some visible blooming in dark rooms, slightly limited viewing angles, and minor motion trails compared to top-tier OLEDs. Still, if you want big size, intense brightness, and cinematic HDR for bright rooms, the U8QG is a fantastic option. OLEDs are better for perfect blacks, but for everyday real-world use, this TV makes a strong case for itself.Read R
The set also excels in real content, although it did struggle a little with our hallway light scene. Still, there's no doubt about it. This TV is just blazing bright. As for gamers, this TV doesn't lose any of its brightness in game mode, so game away.Watch B
However, that isn't to say that it is a horrible TV (I'm going to get one myself), but everyone should know what to expect going into it. In isolation, neither the blue/green tint or the EOTF tracking will be something to worry too much about unless you are a videophile and have to have the most accurate picture and want to see exactly what a content creator intended.Watch E
The TCL has a slightly chunkier border around the screen, metal, not plastic, which feels nice, but the Highense is a little cleaner looking from the front. It's not a major deal unless you're all about the aesthetics, but the TCL stand has two height settings, one for adding a soundbar underneath and one for a lower profile look. In person, neither of these is what I'd call wall hugging thin.Watch B
The Hisense U8QG has a few drawbacks, but it's a great fit for buyers who crave a high-brightness TV.Read W

Yet again, it's not a huge leap in picture quality over the excellent Heisen U10, a model that found itself on many of the best TV lists. The 55, 75, and 100in models use ADS Pro panels instead. Those have weaker contrast but better viewing angles. Meanwhile, the VA versions have richer contrast but narrower angles. So, keep that in mind depending on how your room's set up. Color accuracy, well, it's excellent. The U8QG covers around 95% of the DCIP3 color space.Watch Y
