The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro X are among the most detailed and informative headphones you’ll find at this price point. They’re perfect if you crave to hear every nuance and detail in your music, all wrapped in a design that’s comfortable for hours on end. Unlike some “studio” headphones that feel cold or distant, the DT 990 Pro X strike a remarkable balance between critical listening and pure enjoyment. No matter your musical tastes or how you plan to use them, these headphones come highly recommended.

These are the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro X headphones. Beyerdynamic has many of these headphones; they have the DT 900, and they have the DT 990 Pro (without the X). They are all really good headphones, but as you would expect, each one is a gradual improvement over the previous one

With the DT 990 PRO X , beyerdynamic raises the bar even higher in the tradition of the legendary DT 990 PRO. Having already tested the closed version – the DT 770 PRO X – the open model now has to show what it’s made of. The modern STELLAR.45 driver is at the heart of the renewal: it is designed to raise sound precision to a new level with lower impedance.

The best part is the cable is detachable.

Step into a new dimension of sound 🎧 The DT 990 PRO X takes the legendary DNA of the DT 990 PRO and elevates it with even more detail, space and transparency. With its open-back design and natural treble lift, it works like a sonic magnifier - perfect for analytical listening, precise editing and creative exploration. Airy. Accurate.

While the DT990 Pro X is a master of detail, the bass response may feel like it's lacking if you're used to regular consumer style headphones. The open back design exposes you to every sound going on around you. Conversely, the sound will also leak out, so private listening is a non-starter. However, this is exactly why they are labeled pro

The DT 990 Pro X are clean, revealing headphones that dig out stunning levels of detail. Their subtle dynamic reproduction and spacious soundstage make them a delightfully entertaining listen, resulting in them becoming possibly my personal favourite wired headphones of 2025.

And after trying these out after the 900 Pro X, I actually think these are better. at least in in my use case. Let me explain why. One is the comfort. I find these more comfortable. I feel like I feel like the ear pads are slightly bigger than the 900 Pro X. I just feel like my ear has a little bit more uh room. And obviously, this will this will be subjective, but that's just how I felt.

Beyerdynamic’s DT990 Pro X is a well-built, comfortable over-ear headphone with excellent tuning, great resolution, and above-average soundstage. It handles a wide range of genres and functions nicely as a primary studio headphone for mixing and EQ.

The DT 990 Pro X is only $30 more, but it's a MASSIVE upgrade to the OG DT 990

We have good news, as the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X profile, along with other profiles, has now been released! No need to update the software, instead load a new preset and load the profile, which is now showing up in the supported headphones list.

In short, the DT 990 PRO X is an excellent choice for video editors and critical listening scenarios. The DT 900 PRO X, meanwhile, is a good option for sound engineers and sound designers.

Tried every headphone, but nothing beats the Beyerdynamic 990 Pro X for sound quality and stage. Perfect for gaming, from WoW raids to solo Tarkov.
