Asustor Drivestor 4 Gen2 (AS1204T)
The budget four-bay entry in Asustor's current Drivestor Gen2 line. It is included on hardware merit under this lens: Asustor's ADM platform is mature and actively maintained, the Gen2 enclosures are decently built for the entry tier, and Asustor's support reputation avoids both QNAP's security history and Synology's new restrictions. No page in the retrieved evidence names the AS1204T directly, so it carries no citation. It is ranked last among the picks partly for that thinner evidence base.

It's been nearly three years since we last took a look at a NAS from Asustor and the Nimbustor 4 Gen2 AS5404T that we're reviewing today is a successor of the Nimbustor 4 AS5304T that we reviewed all the way back in 2019. The physical design hasn't changed much since then, with the only difference being the top cover, which now has a pattern with some air vents. However, things have changed quite a lot under the hood, even though much has remained the same here as well, but more on that later.Read T
The Nimbustor 4 Gen2 AS5404T is quite different in terms of its internal design compared to almost all the other products we've looked at since we started reviewing NAS appliances again. You can tell that Asustor shares some history with QNAP, as the memory slots are located below the drive bays, and it's a bit tight getting access to them. At least there's a pair of the slots, so you don't need to remove the installed module to upgrade the memory.Read I
Read
