The Vornado EVDC500 (ASIN: B0BMLQL4HX) sidesteps the problem entirely by changing technology. It is an evaporative humidifier: a fan draws air through a wet wick, and only pure water vapor leaves the machine. Minerals stay trapped in the wick, which is why it runs on ordinary tap water with no white dust at all.
