Video: We were very impressed with the Doorbell Pro’s video. Not only did it have a 1080p HD display with a 162-degree field of view, but it also had HDR, which helped limit distortion from outdoor light. You can see below that even though it was bright outside when we took the photo, even the shadowy areas remained clear.

SimpliSafe is one of my favorite home security systems, so when they finally announced that they had a video doorbell, I was excited to check it out. You can buy the #SimpliSafeVideoDoorbellPro whether you have the SimpliSafe security system or not— all you need is an existing doorbell setup and a Philips head screwdriver, and you’re in business.

All in all, we do think the SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Pro packs quite a punch for the price. With this in mind, we recommend it as a standalone unit, or as an add-on if you’re already running with SimpliSafe products. Either way, we think you’ll find plenty of value with this DIY doorbell cam.

It’s been 10 months of using the device and I thought I’d share some of my likes and dislikes and why I only give the very popular Ring doorbell 3/5 stars. I really like how easy it is to setup the app. When someone rings the doorbell, I like how I get a notification within a second. The image quality is good but we also look at this as an issue when it’s not preforming.
