For the asking price, the Retroid Pocket 6 is an absolute triumph for retro emulation and light PC gaming. Sure, trying to force heavy modern 3D games like Cyberpunk onto an Android processor is a recipe for crashes, but stick to older titles or classic consoles and the gameplay is buttery smooth. It is lightweight, comfortable, and perfect for commuters or just relaxing on the couch. Plus, with the developer community actively working on bringing native Linux and SteamOS experiences to ARM devices, the future of this little handheld looks brighter than ever. If you want a budget friendly trip down memory lane, this is an easy recommendation.

But, if you're looking for the best balance of performance, portability, display quality, and overall value, the Retroid Pocket 6 is the handheld I'd recommend to most people. It delivers a flagship-level emulation experience while saving you a decent amount of money.

If you’re the type of gamer who likes to enjoy a multitude of titles from various systems, there’s a lot to get out of the Retroid Pocket 6. Because it’s an Android system with a built-in control interface, it’s great at playing Android games on top of whatever else you might decide to load onto it. This includes watching movies on Netflix or whatever you might do with your cell phone. As a retro enthusiast , I’m a fan of the systems that Retroid has developed, and the Retroid Pocket 6 stands apart as a superior system with a lot to offer.

The Retroid Pocket 6, I believe, right now, is the best overall value of the bunch because you immediately get fantastic support right out of the box. No worries with driver compatibility. It's small, it's light, it's well priced. I think this is going to be a home run for Retroid this year.

For those looking to relive some classic Nintendo or PlayStation titles, the Retroid Pocket 6 offers a great entry point into the retro handheld world since it can emulate games up to Nintendo Switch and PS2. However, Retroid did have some initial blowback about its design and decided to go back to the drawing board. Following the early criticisms, Retroid decided to add an option for customers to choose between having the D-pad or a thumbstick at the top of the handheld's left side.

GameCube games working for Retroid Pocket 6 absolutely perfect, and you can do what you want, and any single game will work on that device perfectly with full speed. You don't need to put times six resolution as I did, but I'm always saying I'm showing you the possibilities of those devices.

The Retroid Pocket 6 earns its 4.5/5 by doing the hard thing: actually delivering on a premium spec sheet at a price that has historically meant disappointment. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 handles everything through the sixth console generation cleanly. The AMOLED screen is the best display in this price class. The 6,000mAh battery outlasts the competition. The Model A/B layout choice and Hall-effect sticks show that Retroid paid attention to what enthusiasts actually wanted.

The Retroid Pocket 6 12 GB model is back out of the blue, much sought after, stick top only. But, to be honest, if you're after a 12 gig model of anything, then you're going to be playing stick top games, aren't you? So, wonderful stuff. Really pleased to see it and pretty sure this will sell like hot cakes, as we say.

The Retroid Pocket 6 isn’t perfect. Some design decisions are questionable (go for a black unit if you want something that isn’t cosplaying 1999). As ever, the ‘Pocket’ bit in the name is misleading, unless you have comedy pockets. And the audio is just fine. But I bloody love this thing.

So, that gameplay should give you a little introduction here to the Retroid Pocket 6 and what it can do. Kind of what I talked about at the beginning, but it really is a phenomenal device.

And right now, in 2026, that is exactly what I need. **The Retroid Pocket 6 isn’t just a handheld. It’s a time machine. And unlike the DeLorean, this one actually fits in the garage.**

But that doesn't suddenly make the Retroid Pocket 6 a bad handheld. In fact, if someone asked me to recommend just one Android handheld without telling me what they like to play, I'd probably still recommend the Pocket 6.

Long and behold, the Retroid Pocket 6. And there it is, the black version. Now, I really wanted black because I like how the display blends into the piano gloss black finish of the sides of the device, but it's a really cute, nimble little device.

With all that said, the Retroid Pocket 6 is a worthwhile upgrade from its previous model. If you're in the market for what is essentially an Odin 3 light or Steam Deck mini light that can emulate all consoles and lightweight PC games, the Pocket 6 is absolutely worthy of your consideration.

I wouldn't buy the Retroid Pocket 6 exclusively for PC emulation. There are better devices out there for that use case, but it's nice to have the option to play small lightweight titles. I've also tried out Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon and Mina the Hollower and they ran pretty good as well.

Other features that have been applauded include the 120Hz AMOLED display, the battery life, and its ability to emulate several retro consoles up to the PS2 without issues. It can also emulate Nintendo Switch games, but users may experience bugs and crashes. The Retroid Pocket 6 also suffices for playing PC games using software such as Gamehub. However, those who intend to use it for the latter are advised to purchase the higher configuration model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This is because the additional RAM makes for better performance and you get more storage for games since PC games can't be stored on a microSD card.

So, overall, we've got a solid device with the new Retroid Pocket 6, and we've seen a bunch of new devices release. You know, the smaller footprint Androidbased handhouse, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 isn't the most powerful one on the market, but it definitely puts down enough performance for most people out there. Now, is it worth upgrading from the Retroid Pocket 5 to this? Personally, I would probably just wait for the Retroid Pocket 7 or whatever they come up with next.

The Retroid Pocket 6 handles those beautifully, but it sacrifices that perfect retro fit. At the end of the day, deciding between these two isn't about figuring out which one is flat out better. It really comes down to exactly what you want to play. If you want one device that can handle everything from GameCube up to some Switch and Lite PC ports without dealing with awkward black bars, the Pocket 6 is still my top recommendation.
