In practice, my Pocket 5 has mostly been a comfort device rather than a power showcase. I’ve used it far more for cloud gaming — Xbox Cloud and previously Boosteroid — than I ever expected, largely because it’s lighter and easier to settle into than a Steam Deck over long sessions. With a cheap AliExpress grip added, it’s been surprisingly comfortable. I’ve also set it up properly. ES‑DE is installed and dialled in using TechDweebs’ tutorials. Everything up to sixth‑generation systems runs beautifully. PS1, Dreamcast, N64, PSP — no drama at all.

I firmly believe that the Retroid Pocket 5 is the best retro handheld of 2026, but it is only worth the investment if it actually reaches your hands. By managing your logistics through a trusted partner and being proactive about customs, you can enjoy your OLED gaming experience without the stress of a seized package. If you are unsure about the process, you might also like to read our guide on managing electronics imports for 2026 to stay ahead of the curve.

While it may not run the entire Switch game library, the Retroid Pocket 5 really shines when it comes to retro emulation, as it can easily run games from all consoles before the sixth generation, including the PlayStation 2 and GameCube. Another major pro of this handheld is its dual-boot function, which allows users to switch between Linux and Android, which is especially useful if you want better performance in some games.

So, in all the games you see today, I'm going to be at the beginning of each game, but rest assured, I have played all of these games a lot, so I can confirm they're working well and really fun on the Retroid Pocket 5, especially with the gorgeous OLED screen.

The Retroid Pocket 5 feels like a device designed by people who actually use handhelds for long sessions. The shell has a firm matte texture, all seams are flush, and nothing creaks or flexes under pressure. At roughly 280g it has meaningful heft without feeling heavy — the weight distributes across both hands in a way that keeps fatigue low over hour-plus sessions.

To sum things up, the Retroid Pocket 5 is honestly one of the best gaming handhelds for its price. It’s a great choice if you want to play classic retro games from systems like the Game Boy, SNES, PS1, PS2, GameCube, Wii, and PSP on a high-quality screen.

If you want to play Jak and Daxter, Resident Evil 4, or Wind Waker on a handheld, the RG40XXV simply cannot do it. The RP5 can. Winner: Retroid Pocket 5 — no contest for anything beyond PS1.

This is native Steam client running directly on the Retroid Pocket 5 powered by Rockchip. Now, what we have here is the Retroid Pocket 5. It is powered by the Snapdragon 865 with 8 gigs of RAM, and by default, it runs Android 13. It also features this gorgeous 5.5-in AMOLED touchscreen display, making it one of my favorite Android handhelds for retro gaming and emulation.

So yeah, overall the Retro Pocket 5 is still a solid handheld. The Snapdragon 865 isn't the most powerful cheap around anymore, but it still delivers where it matters. Solid emulation performance, smooth Android gaming, and reliable streaming. If you already own one, I wouldn't rush to upgrade just yet.

Today, I’m comparing two of the most talked-about Android handhelds: the Retroid Pocket 5 and the Anbernic RG557. On paper, the RG557 looks like a beast — stronger chip, bigger RAM, faster storage — but the Retroid Pocket 5 Retro Handheld Game Console brings its own strengths with better emulator compatibility, great controls, and dual-boot Linux support.

Now that that's out of the way, let's start with the Retroid Pocket 5. Yes, the newer Pocket 6 is an absolute beast, but do you really need all that power? The Pocket 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 865 and comes with 12 GB ram. That is more than enough to smoothly emulate PS2, GameCube, and Nintendo Wii.

This, the Retroid Pocket 5, does not have that issue. On the contrary, it has a 16x9 screen where now there is coherence between the power, what it can emulate, and the screen size. Therefore, I would certainly say that the only big problem I had with the Retroid Pocket Mini, it is gone. Completely gone.

👉Zu abhors a vacuum, so in the face of *near universal acclaim*, he decided to make a video about some of the problems and issues he's encountered with the Retroid Pocket 5. Now, he's not just being a contrarian either. Despite being one of the best android handhelds of the year and being a great value, there are some minor issues with the RP5, and Zu will explain them to you. From battery life on standby mode, the underdeveloped Retroid Launcher 3, the downfalls of an all-glass front, button loudness, and some significant ergonomics issues, your old buddy Zu will explain what keeps the Retroid Pocket 5 from being a 10/10. Don't worry though, a lot of them are fixable with updates, or might not be a big deal to you. This thing is still an excellent handheld - just not perfect.

The Retroid Pocket 5 is my favorite handheld I've ever owned in my life, and it's a device that I think is almost perfect. The only one thing I don't really like about it is I wish this left analog stick was at the top. And if I had to pick something else, I also wish these grips were a little bit bigger, as it's not the most ergonomic experience when you're playing double analog stick games or games that use the left analog stick in general.

And I'm going to say no because the Retro Pocket 5 is very limited with that Snapdragon 865. It won't be able to handle your entire Steam library. Your games will obviously run much better on a dedicated gaming PC with better performance overall and higher resolutions. So, are you going to download GameHub on your Retro Pocket? Make sure to let me know in the comments below. The Retro Pocket 5 is one of the best deals in gaming and is the gift that keeps on giving.

There are some problems with the games on the Retroid Pocket 5. Some of them just don't run amazing. There's some slowdown. And of course, PSP. Now, if you guys don't know this, the Retroid Pocket 5 is the best PSP. I did say the PS VA before was the best system to play your PSP games on, but now I've completely changed my mind. It's the Retro Pocket 5.
