The PNY RP60 offers more than just a rugged IP65-rated exterior that protects against dust and water droplets. It’s handsome and lightweight to boot, as well as an admirable performer, even besting one of the fastest 20Gbps drives I’ve tested — the Crucial X10 Pro — in a couple of our tests.

The PNY RP60 hits the sweet spot for the holiday season: fast enough for 4K footage and large photo archives, and rugged enough for a backpack and a rain shower. However, if you want full speed, you’ll need a device with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2—otherwise, performance will be limited.

While this plug helps maintain the IP65 rating, it can be frustrating to reinsert due to its extremely flexible tether. A bit of finesse or tools like tweezers or needle-nose pliers are required to guide it back in place, which could be a downside for users in a hurry. Aside from this minor inconvenience, the RP60 is a solid performer that's both fast and durable.

The Acroness data protection software that comes with the RP60 is a nice touch, but many users find it clunky and not userfriendly. You may end up looking for alternatives to manage your backups effectively. Reason number six, the design. While the rugged design is marketed as a feature, it can feel a bit bulky and less sleek compared to other SSDs on the market.
