Ooni is the most famous brand in the pizza oven industry, and the Koda 16 wins the BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine Best Buy for the best pizza oven for big families. This gas-powered pizza oven has an enormous capacity, which means you can cook a whopping dustbin lid pizza of up to 16 inches. Despite this size, we cooked a simple margherita in just 60 seconds. This is thanks to the unique L-shaped flame, which covers the whole pizza and makes for the best pizza on test - a perfect pizza with charred bubbles in the crust and wonderfully golden mozzarella.

Compared to similar outdoor pizza ovens in this price range, the Koda 16 sits in a sweet spot. Cheaper models often struggle to maintain consistent heat or take longer to recover between pizzas, while higher-end ovens may offer slightly more precision, but at a much higher cost and complexity. What makes this one stand out is how balanced it feels. It delivers near professional results without requiring professional-level setup or maintenance.

The Koda 16 gas-powered oven is our favorite of the Ooni outdoor models. The larger opening allows for easier maneuvering of pizzas and the gas power source is easier to control during cooking. We love that this model can be used easily on weeknights and weekends, and it's simple to assemble. Plus, the affordable price tag (in comparison to multi-fuel models) makes it a great place for starters or gifting.

If you’re searching for a pizza oven to add to your backyard or patio setup, the Ooni Koda 16 is a great option. Because of its 16-inch cooking area, it is easier to use than many other models, whether you’re cooking pizzas or using it for other foods. Cooking with gas allows for great heat regulation, overall resulting in the best pizza-making experience for beginners looking to hone their craft.

Value: The lack of a built-in thermometer meant the Koda 16 just missed out on full marks, but it remains one of the best gas pizza ovens we've tested. While you'll need to budget for a few essential accessories, it's a worthwhile investment if you regularly entertain or want consistently excellent pizza with minimal fuss.

We still like the first-generation Ooni Koda 16 for its size, price, and overall performance. The L-shaped burner ignites easily and heats the stone to 950 degrees in less than 20 minutes. From there, the oven can crank out a perfectly charred Neapolitan pizza in just 90 seconds.
