While Noctua has provided upgrade options for this in the past they have nothing specific for the G2 at this time. As for the base and heat pipes they are nickel-plated and have a high quality finish. In fact the base itself, while slightly convex, hardly shows any machining marks. While they can be seen they are faint, meaning the base has a cleaner finish than most.

Noctua NH-D14 user reporting on R9-3900x build (should work almost as good as NH-D15) Short answer: works great! Long answer: While I waited for the FREE AM4 mounting adapter (thanks Noctua) I tested the provided stock cooler. Good god it was unusable! Grindy/whiny fan jumps even on idle usage, and yes I tried everything. Bad fan? Maybe. I can't say as it's all I had.

The word badass is overused and childish, but I can't find better one for black D15 G2. Maybe bacause it's the most badass cooler ever. These shapes and colors are just something more. It looks like it's gonna eat toyish Dark Rock Elite and it's owner together : And I say it as somebody who would even pay some premium to get beige-and-brown over chromax.

Overall it's nice to see Noctua back on top and including decent accessories for that price tag. I am a bit disappointed the new 140mm we've been waiting for is still limited up to 1500 RPM, even now that they've shifted to LCP. Well, the D15 G2 is a great cooler with a great build quality and easy to install. The issue is the performance for the price. You can get a competitor like the Pearless SSA 120 for around a quarter of the price and for the cooling you probably get to 95 to 98% of the performance there. The acoustic is where it really shine.

I’m planning a similar setup myself — maybe with the 270K instead of the 285K. One of my main priorities is keeping the system both quiet and cool, so I’ve been considering the Noctua NH-D15 G2 as well. That said, I’m a little concerned about the sheer size of the cooler and whether it might be overkill for my use case.

In idle mode, the Noctua NH-D 15 G2 in blue has slightly better overall performance compared to the Phantom Spirit 120 SE in red. With the power increase to 105W, we can see that the Noctua's improvement increases at lower speeds, but this difference decreases to a minimum as the fans approach 100% speed. Additionally, the Noctua cooler is noticeably louder after 60% fan speed. When we overclock the processor to 130W, we see this trend continue

Unfortunately I feel the same about the new nhd15g2, it's just not worth the price, you can get 3-4 cheaper coolers that perform close enough or 1 good AIO or 2 ok AIOs so I can't justify that much of a Noctua premium, in my country it will cost over 200$ and I bought a liquid freezer II 420 open box for 100$ so.

Debating between the Noctua NH-D15 G2 and a new aio. i love noctua i use their fans on my case and aio for cpu and aio on gpu. my normal usage temperatures were about 20'c i dont like getting above 60'c when gaming.
