Dare I say this is the best basketball shoe that New Balance has put out, at least since they came back into the basketball world. Whatever pair of Matt Bonner was playing in must have been really good cuz he didn't ditch those for years. But this is hands down one of the best basketball shoes of the year.

Just like the V2 and the Revel Rascal I reviewed in 2025, I love the sensation the CBF provides, and that’s consistent with the V3.

Now, as for the performance, the traction was pretty elite, I got to say. It's kind of a wave bone looking traction pattern, so something similar to, say, the Adidas Superstar, aka the Shell Toes. I was a little bit worried about lateral moves just because the way that the wave bone is is like it's kind of short.

We would keep the BB v3 away from outdoor courts.

Now, starting off in the uppers, a lot to love, a lot to make sure you're wary of when you get them. Uh, number one, the lace line is all cuffed on the interior side. So, the laces do lay a little bit more flat. And then as you go toward the outside, it basically is just a lot of mesh paneling and then really kind of tough paneling that almost just encases it around the shoe.

So, as far as this shoe goes, it retails for 130 bucks, which is actually a pretty good price. And the Fresh Foam B line has actually been very, very solid from New Balance. I feel like New Balance is super duper underrated, guys, for hoop shoes because I feel like I never actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen a New Balance hoop shoe at the gym.

Traction is absolutely amazing. New Balance is one of the safest brands when it comes to good traction and performance on their basketball shoes, and this one is no exception. Fully translucent also on this colorway, wavy lines for the pattern, simple and extremely effective. Now, the sound effect is insane. If you prefer to hear a nice squeak while you play, man, this is so loud.

For lateral movements, they are very quick going side to side.

Frequently asked questions

It ranks #3 (A tier) on our consolidated basketball shoes board, drawn from 14 cited sources across 10 outlets.

It is for players who want a light shoe that fits well and does not fall apart. It sits third on our basketball shoes board in A tier, credited with a lightweight feel, reliable traction, an engineered mesh upper and a high score for stability and durability from RTINGS, and TheHoopsGeek praises its fit and traction. If you want maximum cushioning and the best overall shoe, the Nike LeBron 23 is the S tier top pick. If most of your games are outdoors, the Li-Ning Gamma 2 is the board's outdoor pick.

Longer than most on our board. The verdict describes it as lightweight yet robust with few reported failures after extensive use, and RTINGS scores it high for durability. Expect a full season of indoor play before traction fades. The board records no cons against it.

Yes. Lightweight feel is its first listed strength and the verdict calls it lightweight yet robust. The engineered mesh upper is where the weight saving comes from, and reviewers report it still holds the foot well. It is the lightest of the A tier shoes on our board by reputation.

The New Balance BB V3. It is in A tier at third on our board, while the New Balance TWO WXY V3 is in C tier at twelfth. The TWO WXY V3 is credited with excellent stability and a long-lasting outsole, so it is the one to pick only if you want a heavier, more planted shoe and do not mind giving up the lighter feel and the higher overall rating.

You can, and its reliable traction and durable build should cope, but reviewers do not single it out for outdoor courts. The engineered mesh upper will scuff faster on concrete than a leather or synthetic upper. If outdoor play is most of your basketball, the Li-Ning Gamma 2 is the shoe our board's reviewers recommend for it.
