If you want clinical, uncolored transparency, the MOTU M2 wins. Its ESS Sabre converters provide a mastering-grade listening experience. However, if you are a singer-songwriter or producer who hates sterile digital recordings and wants a more "record-ready" sound straight out of the box, the UA Volt 2's Vintage mode is incredibly compelling. It's a tie, heavily dependent on your genre.

Then go over the inputs and outputs of the Motu M2 Interface with loopback. This could be the best audio interface 2020. I think more people should consider using a audio interface with an XLR mic. Its not hard to connect and get yourself going in no time. Hope this helps someone out! Thanks.

Published round-trip latency figures for the M2 are among the lowest measured at this price tier. If you’re tracking with software monitoring (rather than hardware direct monitoring), that difference is audible. Loopback functionality (routing DAW output back as a recording input) is practical for streaming and screen recording without additional hardware.

The Motu M2 is a worthy little audio interface. The quality That you get out of this unit for the price is amazing. The Motu m2 makes any mic sound great. The clean mic preamps can give you a boost of about +62db mic gain. The Headphone preamps are very good too.

If you want transparent main outputs plus clear metering and loopback in a compact 2×2, the M2 remains an excellent choice. If you don’t need the screen/loopback, Scarlett 2i2 (4th Gen) is a like-for-like alternative with comparable measured outputs. SSL 2 MKII is improved and competitive but measures slightly lower on output DR.

It is difficult today to make a list of audio interfaces without mentioning MOTU, which offers products with a good price-quality ratio and a sound that I find quite high quality. With the M2, we have an alternative to the Steinberg UR22C or possibly the Audient ID14.

So, with the purchase of a MOTU M2 / M4 unit you can get also a great stand-alone 2-channel desktop mic preamp, with good specs. It should be noted that the signal will most likely pass anyway through the converters, towards the outputs.

But if you are a mixing engineer, a sound designer, or a producer who needs a tool that provides uncolored transparency, crystal clear visual workflow, and rock-solid drivers, the MOTU M2 is the better choice. It's a pure, honest recording device.
