Audient ID4 MkII is An excellent semi-pro product for recording with two microphones, instruments, and multimedia audio on both PC and Mac. I have to say It has outstanding, noise-free mic preamps and delivers high-quality headphone signal output, even at high OHM levels. The design and materials are solid, and the included software package enables full 360-degree functionality directly from the computer, including the ability to adjust levels, gains, and volume. I would definitely buy it again for general multimedia use, but it’s also great for audio-visual production, podcasts, and small home studios!

Audient makes large-format consoles, and the iD4’s preamp is the same Class-A circuit from those desks. Against a Scarlett it’s a touch warmer and has a bit more weight in the low mids, and on a vocal you can hear it. The JFET instrument input is modeled on a valve amp’s input stage, so a guitar plugged straight in arrives with some character rather than sounding sterile. There are two headphone outputs, which is unusual at this price, though they share one mix.

✅ Buy if you want an easy-to-use audio interface: Packed with features but easy to get up and running, the iD4 MkII is a perfect beginner audio interface thanks to its excellent quality and low cost. ❌ Avoid if you want to use MIDI: It doesn't have MIDI however, so if you're looking at integrating external hardware with your interface, you'll want to look elsewhere.

The Audient iD4 MKII ticks a lot of boxes. It delivers high-quality audio with studio-grade preamps, costs relatively little, and is super easy to use. For those reasons, I think it's the best for beginners who are looking to record their guitar but don't have too much experience in the recording field.

I used an iD4 Mk II for quick guitar + vocal demos while traveling. It made the guitar sound more alive on first take. That kind of “first look” warmth matters—less time fixing tone later.

Gigging musician: Consider the iD4 MkII. Audient’s console-grade preamp in a bus-powered unit — quieter recordings when capturing live practice or demo sessions on a laptop.
