It’s genuinely one of the best compact cameras ever made for creators. The lens is sharp, the autofocus is fast, and the flip screen was built for exactly the kind of run-and-gun vlogging that most of us are doing on trips. I’ve used it alongside my Sony a7 IV on travels, and there are absolutely moments when the G7 X wins on pure convenience.

So, I would say 20.1 megapixels in a 1-in sensor is just about perfect. And in terms of extending those benefits, really, look at the size of this camera. And it's got a fixed lens zoom. It is F1.8 at F2.8. Now, that would not be possible if that sensor was any bigger. The camera would be huge as would the lens.

It is a long time since I have used compacts that I have felt comfortable with and I was amazed by the quality of the files and ease of use of both cameras. These images are from wandering around Narvik in May this year.

Despite its age, recurring owner feedback suggests it remains one of the best premium compact cameras you can buy, especially if portability is your top priority.

For creators who've been eyeing the G7X Mark III, but also value design, this graphite version is a nice option, especially if you want a camera that feels as good in the hand as it looks on your shelf or in your bag. Just remember, a new color doesn't change performance. So, pick it up because you like the style and the camera itself.

But then with the years of updates upon updates upon updates, right now in this current year, the rating for the Canon G7X is pretty high. People love it. And I because I've wanted it for so long, guys. I promise you, I got about three different cameras in between, right? First, I got the EOSRP, which is the one I'm recording on right now. I've been using this camera.

Weaknesses: Here’s the kicker, though: the G7X Mark III has a crop in 4K . This means your wide-angle lens becomes less wide, making it harder to fit yourself and your surroundings into the frame when holding it at arm’s length. It’s a noticeable crop, too. It’s one of them things that can be a deal-breaker if you really value that wide field of view.

If you're buying it in 2025, you might be better off with the Sony ZV12 or even your iPhone. But okay, okay, the G7X2, it's got a vibe. It's familiar. It does the job and gets out of the way. It's, you know, no fuss. Camera still works great. This day and age, if you want it, you should get it. If you shoot video more than stills, you need something that's compact and simple.

My short answer: yes, but only at the right price and for the right kind of shooter. It is still one of the most enjoyable compact cameras for travel, everyday photos, creator clips, and social shooting. It is not the camera I would buy for serious action, long-form video, or inflated resale prices.

The autofocus is not good. It's usable, but not good. The battery life, not good. Usable, but not good. And if you plan on filming anything above 1080p, you're going to run into overheating issues. Little clips here and there are okay, but doing a full shoot, not good. Every camera is going to have a purpose, and you need to understand the purpose of this camera.

It undoubtedly makes sense as an interesting gateway into the world of real photography, though one shouldn’t forget the simple fact that it has its limits – it simply belongs to a different era.
