If your hybrid working requires glossy photo output on a regular basis, the Canon MegaTank G620 (G650 in Europe and G660 in Australia) is a cartridge-free machine that has relatively high-volume ink tanks, topped up by 60ml bottles of ink. With my money-saving head on, that works out to about an eighth of the cost of most cartridge-based printers. I also like that the printer itself is very affordable to buy, compared with many bottle-fed printers.

But anyway, I bought this Canon G650. Uh I think I paid just over 200 pound for it and it's kind of one of these mega tanks where you fill it up with ink. Um I was kind of on the fence about it buying one of those because I thought it was going to get messy, but when I actually filled it up, I realized there was not a drop of mess anywhere. Um so, that was quite good

The upshot is: The native (AirPrint) behavior for glossy is excellent, spot-on, at least for color prints. It's a decent printer, reasonably priced and with extremely low running costs, the only fault I can find is that there is no A3 model. The good agreement between native printing and profiles indicates extremely good manufacturing QC.

The Canon G650, (G620 in US), is Canon’s first refillable ink photo printer - with 6 colours including a photo-specific red and grey. Canon's MegaTank system is very economical, with a 6x4” print costing just over 2p or 2.5c - around a 1/10th of the cost compared to typical, even larger capacity ink cartridges.
