I'm going to be using this larger scale here today because we're going to be dialing in on the Brevel Barista Express because it's such a popular machine. Having a bigger scale like this means that you can just place the entire porter filter on. So, when you're not single dosing, you've got a hopper full of beans, you can just grind straight into that and weigh your dose right there.Watch P

We recommend the Barista Express Impress for beginners who want real espresso with minimal puck prep frustration. The honest caveat is that the milk side is entirely on you, and it will take a couple of weeks of practice before you’re getting consistently good results.Read T
The Barista Express has been on the market since 2013, already 10 years, and it is the king of all-in-one espresso machines during that time. The new kid on the block is the Lelit Elizabeth model from De'Longhi. This has only been around for about 1 and 1/2 or 2 years. Uh today we want to do a comparison and see if we can find a winner between these two models.Watch T

The main reason is espresso quality and also some people prefer the fully manual espresso workflow. Most fully automatic home bean to cut machines just don't quite cut the mustard when it comes to true espresso in terms of intensity and body.Watch F Facebook Rhonda Rolandson · owner

The Barista Express Impress is an integrated grinder espresso machine and probably the best answer at this price point at least to the question, what home espresso machine should I go for if I'm not quite sure how deeply into the home barista rabbit hole I really want to jump or if I want if I sometimes want a less geeky workflow.Watch F Facebook Adrian Mosse · owner

In terms of durability, the Braveville, I think, clearly has an edge here with its proven track record. Some users have had their machine for over 10 years without major issues. The Ninja being a new model still has its story to write, but the build quality is not bad. One interesting note here, the Ninja porta filter 53 mm and is really specific to this machine. In its category, I would put this in the sweet spot. It is not a super automatic machine that does everything for you. And it is not a big cafe rig with separate components and a separate grinder that costs a small fortune. I think this is unfortunate for all concerned really, including for the reputation of Breville coffee machines in the UK, because actually – as you'll find out as you continue to read the rest of my Breville Barista Max + review – if we forget this issue and focus purely on the quality of the machine for the money, it's actually a very interesting espresso machine, considering the low price.Read T
I think that the Ninja Dual Brew Pro Specialty Coffee System compares pretty well to the Barista Express Impress. Although, actually, it has a whole bunch more functionality than does the Barista Express Impress and it's offered at a lower price. That being said, they both have very similar grinders.Watch B
It is worth being honest about the category compromise: an integrated grinder is always a trade-off against a dedicated standalone grinder of equivalent value. The Barista Express Impress’s grinder is competent and well-matched to the machine, but a separate Gaggia Classic Pro E24 paired with a dedicated grinder at a similar combined price will produce better extraction results.Read A
The Barista Express runs higher than traditional espresso pressure. On paper, that sounds impressive. In the cup, it can flatten flavour and push bitterness — especially once you move beyond forgiving, darker roasts. You can absolutely make good coffee with it. Millions of people do. But the ceiling arrives sooner than many beginners expect.Watch B
As a whole, by working extensively with this entry-level home espresso machine, preparing both espressos and milk drinks, I find that the Sage or Breville Barista Express delivers a great bang for your buck . In addition, it’s a very good espresso machine for the beginner home baristas , who are just dipping their toes in the world of making espresso at home .Read T
Because the grinder is built directly into the housing, you're completely committed to using it. If you ever upgrade to a dedicated standalone grinder down the road, half of this machine simply becomes unused permanent real estate on your kitchen counter. Which brings us to secret number two, the grinder wall that causes almost every beginner to give up.Watch B
The problem we ran into with this machine was that it began jamming up with lighter roast beans. We asked Breville why this is and didn’t get a definitive answer. But issues like this are why we typically stay away from espresso machines with built-in grinders. They tend not to have as many settings or as much power as standalone grinders.Read T
Before we go into pros and cons, I have to say I do really like this coffee machine. I think this coffee machine is great. Been enjoying it every day. It takes a bit of time at the beginning to get used to it to know exactly how the coffee machine work. Get the coffee shot right. Get the texture, the milk texture right as well.Watch P

It also has some weight to it, which I actually like because when I lock in the portafilter, it doesn't slide around. Setup was pretty normal. Rinse the water tank, run water through, and I did a couple blank shots to warm things up. That warming part matters more than I expected. The machine heats water quickly, but the portafilter and the group head still start out cold.Watch C
If the machine has an Achilles’ heel, however, it is that same integrated grinder. While not entirely incapable, it has been outpaced by the significant advancements in espresso grinding technology over the last several years.Read L

If you want coffee that tastes the same no matter what beans you throw in, and you don't want to think about grind size or tamping, this probably isn't the right style of machine. Lelit machines typically outlast Breville machines with proper maintenance. A Lelit Mara or Bianca with regular care can run 10–15+ years. We have customers with Lelit machines from 2012 still pulling excellent shots. Well-maintained Breville machines can run 7–8 years. The ceiling for Lelit longevity is simply higher.Read B
Almost 8% of users gave it just one star and another 2% gave it two stars. That's roughly 2,600 plus people who absolutely regret buying it. Let's find out why. Issue number one, grinder trouble.
