Flagged as a product to avoid

3 of 10 research runs entered this as a product to avoid rather than a pick.

Ownership means living inside Amazon's locked-down app store, with ads on the lockscreen and no Google Play out of the box, on aging hardware; it reviews as a media consumption device and disappoints as a general-purpose tablet, which is the category's actual job.

Flagged 10 September 2026

1 earlier flag predates the point where runs began recording their reasoning, so its grounds were never written down.

  1. Ownership means living inside Amazon's locked-down app store, with ads on the lockscreen and no Google Play out of the box, on aging hardware; it reviews as a media consumption device and disappoints as a general-purpose tablet, which is the category's actual job.

  2. A locked-down app store without proper Google Play and aging internals mean its low price buys a crippled experience; the Walmart Onn 13.2-inch Tablet (2026) or the Apple iPad 11 (2025) are better uses of the same money.

Alexa integration is fantastic, allowing voice commands even when the screen is off, making it a mini Echo Show with a screen. However, button placement could be better, as we occasionally found ourselves turning off the screen by accident. Ultimately, the Fire HD 10 is a strong contender in the budget tablet market. Its affordable price, combined with the ability to sidestep some of its limitations, makes it a solid choice for casual users. It’s not perfect out of the box, but with a bit of tweaking, it offers unbeatable bang for your buck.

Indeed, Amazon's Fire lineup remains one of the most popular tablet brands, and both of these models offer enticing features for work and play. Amazon's tablets hit their low prices not by compromising on quality but by offering versions with and without ad-supported lock screens. Amazon also keeps some budget-friendly options available, like microSD card storage expansion.

It’s definitely a deal that you won’t want to miss. For just $70, you can pick up a tablet with a large 10-inch display with a 1080p resolution. Despite that large display, you can still expect up to 13 hours of battery life per charge, while the base model comes with 32GB of storage. You can opt for the 64GB model or add more storage via an optional microSD card.

Case in point: A new deal gets you the all-new Fire HD 10 Tablet on sale for just $154.99 , less than half the price of the cheapest iPad on Amazon . This is a bestseller on Amazon too, with the site reporting more than 10,000 units sold in the last few weeks alone. Almost 80% of shoppers, meantime, give the tablet a full, five-star review.

Is the Amazon Fire HD 10 worth buying? Absolutely, as long as your expectations match what it's built for. It's not a powerhouse, but it's an excellent affordable companion for streaming, reading, and light browsing

I find the Fire 10 with a keyboard to be a better value than the Fire Max 11 , which also comes in a productivity bundle that includes a keyboard with a trackpad. But the keyboard stand is not free-standing, so it's awkward to hold in your lap and it's more than double the price of the Fire HD 10 keyboard combo when it's on sale.

The Fire HD 10 is the easiest tablet to recommend on price alone. You get a large, readable Full HD screen, hands-free Alexa that helps less tech-comfortable users, and expandable storage, for a fraction of an iPad. For reading, streaming, and the occasional video call, it is plenty.

None of that changes the fact that the Fire HD 10 is now $99.99 rather than $139.99, and for anyone who wants a proper sized tablet for streaming and video calls without flagship prices, that 29% saving makes this 4-star tablet an easy purchase to justify.

With Prime Day deals upon us, the Amazon Fire HD 10 is a fantastic value at $89. While I think it might be a little long in the tooth to spend $150, I think 89 is a great deal.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 was already an excellent deal for $75 on previous Prime Days, but I love the added productivity enhancements Amazon has made with the 2023 refresh. Between the keyboard and stylus support, the Fire HD 10 really cements itself again as one of the best deals in tech.
