I would definitely choose the SM7dB because it is simply more versatile. That's one less thing to carry around if you're traveling, recording podcasts, or working in other locations—less hassle when everything is built into the microphone. Take SM7dB.

So, if I was trying to decide what mic to go for, I would definitely go with the seven the SM7DB because it's already got the clean gain right built into it. It's less cables, cleaner sound going directly into my DAW, so when I'm recording vocals and sending to my producer, we've got the cleanest amount of vocals is possible. Now, if you've already got the Shure SMB, well, then just pick yourself up a Cloudlifter. That's going to be like an extra 100 bucks, but if you haven't got a mic yet, I would just go with the DB for sure.
