As we’ve come to expect from Ride1Up, the Roadster V3 is an excellent, lightweight city e-bike with more bang for the buck than we typically find at its price point. The bike is more powerful than most similar models we’ve tested with its 500W rear-hub motor, and it has a remarkably natural-feeling pedal assist system with a highly responsive feel.

The handling is nimble, and the bike feels lively and responsive, but still well balanced overall. I was also really impressed with the step through frame. It keeps much of the ride character of the high-step version, but in a more accessible design for people of different sized inseams. I'll have more on that though in the ride quality section later on. And point number two is the power.

Today we are testing two Ride1Up Roadster V3 ebikes. This one is single-speed. This one is 9-speed. Riding a single-speed bike in the maximum power mode, I traveled up a 12% hill with a relative ease. I did not use the thumb trigger, relying completely on the torque sensor.

This is my favorite all around bike. And the reason for that is because it's a class 3 e-bike, top speed 28 on pedal assist. You can hit 20 on throttle only, which I love. And then from there you can hit 28 on pedal assistance and I really love that. In addition, you still also have the removable battery. Like I said, you've got the throttle as well.

In our view, yes for US buyers and with caveats for Canadians. The safety record is clean, the BBB rating is A with accreditation, and most models carry UL 2849/2271 certification — those are the markers of a serious value brand. The Canadian-specific drawbacks are the US-only warranty wording, the cross-border cost, and that several models ship faster than Canada's 32 km/h limit.

However, if I get into more extreme levels of going off-road, these fenders may become a little bit more of an issue. As you're riding on uneven terrain, that can cause the tires to bump and rub against the fenders. You can also get mud and dirt clogged up in those fenders.

Luckily, Portland has at least one ebike shop, Nomad Cycles , that will generally work on UL-certified ebikes like the Roadster V3 even if they aren't sold in the shop. But not every city or town has a shop like this.
